The 2014 Dodge Challenger is a modern muscle car with roots tracing back to the classic Challengers of the 1970s. It's a two-door coupe offered with a range of powerful engines. Model years for this generation span from 2008 onwards. Key trims include the SXT, R/T, SRT8. New pricing ranged roughly from $26,000 to $47,000 depending on trim and options. It stands out for its retro styling, spacious interior for a coupe, and potent engine options, making it popular among those seeking a blend of classic looks and modern performance.
The Good

The 2014 Challenger excels in performance, offering strong engines and a comfortable ride. Its bold, retro design appeals emotionally, while its relatively spacious interior and trunk provide practical benefits. While not the most fuel-efficient, it offers good value for its power and features. Reliability is generally average for its class.

The Bad

The 2014 Challenger's weaknesses include its considerable weight, which impacts handling agility. Fuel economy can be poor, especially with the larger engines. Some owners have reported issues with the electrical system and infotainment system glitches. Visibility can be limited due to the thick roof pillars. Rust can be a concern in northern climates.

What Problems Does the 2014 Dodge Challenger Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2014 Dodge Challenger include issues with the electrical system, such as malfunctioning sensors, particularly related to the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). Some owners have also reported problems with the Uconnect infotainment system, including freezing, unresponsive touchscreens, and Bluetooth connectivity issues. Engine issues are less common but can occur, especially with higher mileage vehicles, and might involve oil leaks or sensor failures.

Recalls for the 2014 Dodge Challenger can be checked on the NHTSA website using the VIN. Potential recalls might address issues related to the fuel system, airbags, or electrical components. Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the longevity of the infotainment system and the potential for rust, especially in regions with harsh winters where salt is used on the roads. Specific model year issues aren't significantly different from the broader issues within this generation, but consistent maintenance and addressing problems promptly are crucial for long-term reliability. Owners should pay attention to regular fluid changes, brake maintenance, and addressing any unusual noises or warning lights as soon as they appear to prevent more significant problems down the road. Some users have noted that the active exhaust system on R/T models can develop issues over time.

How long will the 2014 Dodge Challenger last?

With good maintenance, a 2014 Dodge Challenger can easily reach 150,000-200,000 miles or provide 10-15 years of service. Proper maintenance, including regular oil changes, fluid checks, and addressing any mechanical issues promptly, is crucial. Long-term durability can be affected by rust, particularly in areas with road salt. The infotainment system and other electronic components are potential weaknesses that may require attention over time. The robust engines, especially the V8s, tend to be durable with proper care. Suspension components might need replacement due to wear and tear, especially on vehicles driven aggressively.

bought a 2014 new, 6 speed manual, drives as good as anything i've driven, and that's a lot of vehicles. driven domestic, Asian and European, as well as some exotics - jaguar, Bmw, Land rover etc.

Car has less than 100k miles, which was hard to find in my price range. ARC fixed a side skirt for us and also did some touch up work to the front and it looks so much better.

Worst car ever. Has many recalls, car has been in the shop numerous times with different things wrong. Motor went up, all around Roters twice, air conditioner went up first week of purchasing car(warranty doesn't cover air conditioning) car has never been in an accident now back tires need replacement every few months. Did an alignment, car still not right and now today the shop says I have to take it to dealership that's going to cost anywhere from $1,500 to 2,000 to fix. I'm over it!!!!!

I would of loved the vehicle if it had the amp I've been waiting for, for 3 months and the burned seat was repaired. No

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2014 Dodge Challenger comes standard with features like keyless entry and ignition, automatic headlights, and a six-speaker audio system with a 4.3-inch touchscreen. Higher trims offer upgraded features such as leather upholstery, heated seats, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen Uconnect infotainment system that includes Bluetooth connectivity, navigation, and smartphone integration. Driver-assistance features are relatively limited compared to modern vehicles, with available options like rear parking sensors and a rearview camera.

Safety features include standard antilock brakes, stability control, and multiple airbags. Optional features include blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-path detection on some trims. Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) should be checked for specific details. Generally, the Challenger performs well in frontal and side-impact tests, but small overlap frontal crash tests can be a weakness. The Uconnect system, while functional, can feel dated compared to newer systems, but it provides basic entertainment and navigation functionalities. Optional sound systems from Alpine or Harman Kardon offer improved audio quality for audiophiles.

2014 Dodge Challenger Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2014 Dodge Challenger ranged from approximately $26,000 for the base SXT to around $47,000 for the SRT8. Current used market prices typically range from $12,000 to $30,000, depending on the trim, mileage, condition, and location. Depreciation is influenced by factors like mileage, condition, and the presence of desirable options. Higher performance trims (R/T and SRT8) tend to hold their value better than the base SXT. Low mileage examples in excellent condition command a premium. The overall demand for muscle cars also affects resale value, and limited-edition models can appreciate in value over time.

2014 Dodge Challenger Cost of Ownership

The 2014 Dodge Challenger is generally considered moderately costly to own. Insurance costs can be higher, especially for younger drivers or those with speeding tickets, due to the car's performance capabilities. Fuel costs are significant, particularly with the V8 engines. Maintenance and repair costs are average for its class, but some parts can be expensive. Long-term ownership costs depend heavily on maintenance habits and driving style. While not the most economical choice, it's not excessively expensive compared to other performance cars.

2014 Dodge Challenger Insurance

Insurance for a 2014 Dodge Challenger is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Coupe with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2014 Dodge Challenger Compare to Other Coupe?

The 2014 Dodge Challenger's key rivals include the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro. In terms of performance, the Challenger offers strong engine options, but its weight can hinder handling compared to the more nimble Mustang and Camaro. Feature-wise, the Challenger boasts a more spacious interior and a more comfortable ride than its rivals, but its technology can feel dated. Reliability is comparable to the Mustang and Camaro, with each having their own set of common issues. Price-wise, the Challenger is generally competitive, offering good value for its size and power.

If handling and agility are priorities, the Ford Mustang or Chevrolet Camaro might be better alternatives. For those seeking a more modern interior and technology, looking at newer model years of all three cars would be beneficial. The Chrysler 300, while not a direct competitor, offers a similar blend of comfort and power in a larger sedan format. Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual priorities and preferences, with the Challenger appealing to those who value retro styling, spaciousness, and comfortable cruising.

The 2014 Dodge Challenger is ideal for those who appreciate classic muscle car styling, powerful engine options, and a comfortable ride. It's worth buying as a used car, particularly if you prioritize spaciousness and retro aesthetics over cutting-edge technology or nimble handling. The R/T trim offers a good balance of performance and features. Before buying, thoroughly inspect the car for rust, electrical issues, and Uconnect problems. Consider a pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic. A well-maintained example can provide years of enjoyable ownership, blending classic appeal with modern conveniences.
