Rating: 4.71
Based on 112 Owner Reviews
Eugene S | March 31, 2025
The 2015 Ford Mustang marked the sixth generation of this iconic American pony car. Available as a coupe or convertible, it featured a completely redesigned body and independent rear suspension, a significant departure from previous models. Key trims included the base V6, EcoBoost, and the GT, each offering a different level of performance and features. New pricing ranged from around $24,000 to $40,000+. Its blend of classic Mustang styling with modern technology and improved handling made it exceptionally popular.
The Good

The 2015 Mustang offers strong performance with multiple engine choices, including a fuel-efficient EcoBoost. Its updated design evokes a sense of nostalgia and modernity. While not the pinnacle of reliability, it's generally dependable. The improved interior offers greater comfort, and overall, it provides good value for the performance and style it offers. This appeals to both emotional buyers wanting a sporty car and practical buyers seeking a daily driver.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses include some reported issues with the infotainment system (MyFord Touch), potential for oil consumption in some EcoBoost engines, and less-than-stellar rear visibility, especially in the coupe. Some owners have noted minor build quality issues. It's advisable to check for these issues and ensure proper maintenance history before purchasing.

What Problems Does the 2015 Ford Mustang Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2015 Ford Mustang include issues with the MyFord Touch infotainment system. Some owners experienced glitches, slow response times, and connectivity problems. Another concern has been reported oil consumption, especially in some of the early 2.3L EcoBoost engines. This can lead to premature wear if not monitored. There were some recalls issued, mostly related to potential fuel tank leaks and airbag issues. These should be verified as completed on any used model.
Long-term reliability concerns generally revolve around the complexity of the infotainment system and the potential for the EcoBoost engine to develop issues with oil consumption over time. It's crucial to check the service history for regular oil changes and address any potential leaks or unusual noises. Additionally, some owners have noted minor issues with the interior trim and electrical components over the long term. Thorough pre-purchase inspections are recommended to mitigate these risks and ensure the vehicle's overall condition.

How long will the 2015 Ford Mustang last?

A 2015 Ford Mustang, with proper maintenance, can easily reach 150,000-200,000 miles or more. Expected years of service can exceed 10 years depending on driving conditions and maintenance. Long-term durability is generally good, but the 2.3L EcoBoost engine is more prone to issues if not maintained meticulously. The independent rear suspension introduced in this generation is generally durable, but may require some maintenance over time. Regular fluid changes, brake maintenance, and addressing minor issues promptly are key to ensuring long-term reliability. Weaknesses often emerge in areas like the infotainment system and electrical components as the car ages.
Positive Owner Reviews
John S.
I really enjoy driving my 2015 Mustang. The engine is powerful and the handling is good. However, the infotainment system feels a bit dated.
Emily R.
This car is a blast to drive! It's also surprisingly affordable for the performance you get. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a sporty car.
David L.
I've owned my Mustang for several years now and it's been very reliable. It also turns heads wherever I go. The styling is timeless.
Negative Owner Reviews
Sarah M.
It's a fun car, but the gas mileage isn't the greatest. If you're looking for fuel efficiency, this isn't the car for you. Otherwise, it's great.
Linda P.
The backseat is pretty small, so it's not ideal for families with kids. But if you're mostly driving solo or with one passenger, it's a great car.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2015 Ford Mustang offers a range of tech and safety features. Standard tech included keyless entry, push-button start, and the SYNC infotainment system. Higher trims offered MyFord Touch with an 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, and premium audio systems.
Driver-assistance features were limited on the base models, but optional features included blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control. Safety features included standard airbags, anti-lock brakes, and electronic stability control. A rearview camera was available on higher trims and is highly recommended.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) gave the 2015 Mustang an overall 5-star safety rating. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) gave the Mustang coupe a "Good" rating in several crash tests. The convertible received lower scores due to structural differences. Optional features like the blind-spot monitoring system significantly enhance safety. The availability and quality of these systems depended on the specific trim level and options selected.

2015 Ford Mustang Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2015 Ford Mustang ranged from around $24,000 for the base V6 to over $40,000 for a fully equipped GT Premium. Current used market prices vary significantly based on condition, mileage, and trim. Expect to find V6 models in the $12,000-$18,000 range, EcoBoost models in the $15,000-$22,000 range, and GT models in the $20,000-$30,000+ range. Depreciation has been moderate, with GT models holding their value better due to demand. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, condition, accident history, and whether it has any desirable performance options. Convertibles tend to hold their value slightly better than coupes in some markets.

2015 Ford Mustang Cost of Ownership

Insurance costs for the 2015 Mustang can be moderate to high, especially for younger drivers or GT models. Fuel costs vary depending on the engine; the EcoBoost is the most economical, while the GT consumes more. Maintenance is generally reasonable, but repairs on the independent rear suspension or infotainment system can be costly. Long-term ownership costs are average for a sports car. Overall, the Mustang isn't the most economical vehicle to own, but it's not excessively expensive compared to its rivals.

2015 Ford Mustang Insurance

Insurance for a 2015 Ford Mustang is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Convertible with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2015 Ford Mustang Compare to Other Convertible?

The 2015 Ford Mustang's key rivals include the Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger. In terms of performance, the Mustang GT offered comparable power to the Camaro SS and Challenger R/T, with slightly better handling than the Challenger. The EcoBoost model offered a blend of efficiency and performance rivaling similar engines in the Camaro. Feature-wise, the Mustang was competitive, although MyFord Touch was sometimes criticized compared to GM's infotainment systems. Reliability is comparable, with all three models having potential issues.
Price-wise, the Mustang was generally competitive, offering similar value for the money. Alternatives to consider include the Nissan 370Z for pure sports car focus or the Hyundai Genesis Coupe (discontinued, but available used) for a more luxurious option. For outright horsepower and a classic muscle car feel, the Challenger is a good choice. For slightly sharper handling, the Camaro is a decent alternative. The Mustang strikes a good balance between performance, style, and features, making it a well-rounded option in its class.

Ranks #92 Convertible

Final Verdict: Is the 2015 Ford Mustang a Good Convertible?

The 2015 Ford Mustang is ideal for those seeking a stylish and fun-to-drive sports car with a strong heritage. It's worth buying, especially used, if you appreciate its blend of performance, design, and technology. The EcoBoost offers a good balance of fuel efficiency and power, making it a practical choice. The GT is perfect for those wanting V8 performance. Before buying, thoroughly inspect the vehicle for any potential issues, especially with the infotainment system and EcoBoost engine. Consider a pre-purchase inspection to ensure its long-term reliability. A well-maintained, lower-mileage example is a worthwhile purchase.

Some Interior Plastic Feels Cheap

The interior is generally nice, but some of the plastic trim feels a bit cheap for the price. It doesn't detract too much from the overall experience, though.
