What Problems Does the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder Have?

The 2014 Nissan Pathfinder has faced its share of reported problems, with the continuously variable transmission (CVT) being a significant concern. Many owners have reported experiencing shuddering, slipping, or complete failure of the CVT, sometimes requiring costly replacements. This issue seems to be more prevalent in the 2013-2014 model years.
Another frequently reported problem involves the air conditioning system, with owners reporting compressor failures or reduced cooling capacity. Electrical issues, such as problems with the infotainment system or sensor malfunctions, have also been noted.
Some owners have also mentioned excessive oil consumption. It's advisable to check the oil level regularly.
Recalls have been issued for the 2014 Pathfinder related to issues such as potential brake light switch malfunction, which could prevent the engine from starting or the transmission from shifting out of park, and issues related to fuel level sensors giving inaccurate readings.
Long-term reliability can be a concern due to the CVT issues. Proper maintenance, including regular fluid changes, can help mitigate some risks but may not completely eliminate them. A thorough inspection and service history review are crucial before purchasing a used 2014 Pathfinder.

How long will the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder last?

With proper maintenance, a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder can potentially reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles or more, translating to roughly 10-15 years of service. However, longevity heavily depends on consistent maintenance, especially regarding the CVT. Regular fluid changes (more frequent than Nissan's recommended intervals) can help prolong the transmission's life.
Weaknesses over time often revolve around the CVT, as mentioned earlier. Suspension components, like struts and bushings, may also require replacement as the vehicle ages. Corrosion in areas with harsh winters can also be a concern. Keeping up with scheduled maintenance is crucial for maximizing the vehicle's lifespan.

Rick
Brought this car 2nd hand with 123,000klms on it. 2nd week air compressor went $1000 latter, front and back rotors and disc brakes had to be replace, lucky 3 months warranty covered it! Rear wheel bearing is getting loud will need replacing soon! Hade issues with the main screen going blank every so often, Nissan up dated it for $169 made no difference what so ever. At 160,000klms transmission has failed, took into Nissan Mandurah WA, had it assessed, they said because of the LAW SUIT on the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder we may be allegeable for compensation as car isn’t 10 years old yet! They took the matter to Nissan head office but was declined, said they could replace it for $11,000. No thank you! Now having it fixed out of our pocket for $5,000. Can’t wait to sell it worst car I’ve ever owned. Stay clear of CVT transmission’s there rubbish! Really nice SUV apart from the issues that should be recalled!!!
Doug
My Pathfinder is so comfortable and I love the ride and how it looks. I’m so happy with my decision. It’s a fully loaded platinum edition it’s so fun to drive
Arleen

Negative Owner Reviews
florence
bad investment, don't buy this car, cost of repairs are expensive and the whole car is disassembled to work on this car. the warranty expired by the time I needed it. The dealer doesn't stand by their product.
WantedADependableCar
Transmission totally went out. Researched options after getting the estimate to replace/fix. Discovered 2014-2016 Nissan CVT engines have a class action lawsuit. I called and Nissan will not cover. 3 months later, a sister's friend with the same model and year has his transmission go out and Nissan is covering half of his cost!!! Shudders / shakes violently when speeding back up from a right turn yield signs. Started having transmissions slips after towing small flatbed trailer with upper kitchen cabinets (very lightweight); a couple of months later the transmission goes out completely.
TaraH
Terrible, with too many problems with it. Transmission, axle, shaft problems. I don't feel safe in it. company Doesn't care. Will never purchase another Nssan.

reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2014 Nissan Pathfinder competes with vehicles like the Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, Ford Explorer, and Chevrolet Traverse.
Performance: The Pathfinder's V6 engine is adequate, but the Explorer offers more powerful engine options.
Features: The Pathfinder's features are comparable to its rivals, with similar tech and convenience options available.
Reliability: The Pathfinder falls short in reliability compared to the Toyota Highlander and Honda Pilot, primarily due to CVT concerns. The Chevrolet Traverse has also had reliability concerns. The Ford Explorer has had some issues as well, but generally fares better.
Price: The Pathfinder often offers a slightly lower price point than the Highlander and Pilot, which can make it an attractive option for budget-conscious buyers.
Alternatives: If reliability is a top priority, the Toyota Highlander or Honda Pilot are better choices, despite potentially costing more. If you need more robust performance, the Ford Explorer (especially with the EcoBoost engine) could be considered, but be mindful of its reliability track record. The Chevrolet Traverse offers similar space and features at a competitive price but has its own set of reliability concerns. If a used Pathfinder is being considered, the price must heavily reflect the risk of CVT issues and other potential problems.

Ranks #918 SUV

Final Verdict: Is the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2014 Nissan Pathfinder is ideal for families seeking a spacious and relatively affordable three-row SUV. However, its value is heavily dependent on its condition and price, given the potential for CVT issues. It's worth buying *if* you can find one with a documented history of meticulous CVT maintenance and a price that reflects the inherent risk. A pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic is crucial. Lower trims (S or SV) may be a better value proposition as they are less expensive to repair. Consider alternatives like the Toyota Highlander or Honda Pilot if reliability is paramount, even if they command a higher price.

Be wary of Nissan

I have 2024 Pathfinder with 138k, brought it brand new in 2014. Window seals is falling off since plastic rivels fell of. Poor qualities and cheap materials were used. Repairs are expensive. Oil leaks. Axels- front and back had to be replaced after 90k. Engine light now constantly on. Multiple repairs, but Nissan dealer unable to figure it out. Now rattle. Although the interior cabin is roomy. The rest of the car is junk. I will not buy another Nissan product or car. The qualities are teriible. Hope the Company returns to it's past commitment to reliability and quality.

Not worth the stress

Nissan Pathfinder

My problem owning this car is I always have problems with driver side door handle and visor plus I hate the hood bouncing when the wind blows towards the front of the car when I'm driving. I always think it's going to flip off.

Poorly built Nissan Pathfinder 2014

I purchased this Nissan Pathfinder 2014 SL in April 2014. I have had problems with the aircondition, radio and the blower since I purchased the vehicle. I tool the vehicle to several Nissan dealers in Houston Texas. None were available to find the problems. Now, I have paid off the vehicle and have 81456 miles. Now, the dealers know the problem. Its the AC panel with the radio all in one compartment. The Nissan company poorly designed and made this vehicle. I checked online after purchasing this vehicle. This is the Major problem. It should be recalled. This is my 3rd Nissan Vehicle. I will never purchased another Nissan vehicle.

Transmission problems beware

I found out this vehicle had a known transmission problem only after buying. I purchased it used with 20,000 miles on it and the transmission went out just before the warranty ended. The dealership tried doing a cheap fix but didn’t work so they installed a rebuilt transmission. This now just out at 110,000 miles and cost to replace is nearly $6,000. Traded it in instead ……not on a Nissan.

Great car

We bought this car 2 years ago today. It had 48 thousand miles on it. It now has 98 thousand miles on it. We have not had any problems with this car.we had a Nissan Rogue before this can and it went through 2 transmissions. The pathfinder seems to be doing great we got the SL 4WD and I used it in the last ice storm we had to deliver oxygen bottles to nursing homes. I could not make it spin a tire on the ice. In my opinion it's a great car for your money

bad investment, don't buy this car, cost of repairs are expensive and the whole car is disassembled to work on this car. the warranty expired by the time I needed it. The dealer doesn't stand by their product.

The most liable care

I love this car! It’s a 4WD very reliable in the snow especially when am driving home from work at night. Am not afraid am gonna get stuck on the road. It also has plenty of leg room in the front and back. Love love love it!!

One of my best

The car meet my driving expectations dry, wet and snow lots of leg room including 3rd row seat. Own the vehicle for seven years no issues at all only regular service oil change rotors tires brake pads pretty much that it maybe I’m one of the lucky owners.
