The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro is a legendary American muscle car with a rich history. It's offered as a coupe and convertible. The sixth-generation Camaro, launched in 2016, carried over to 2017 with key trims like the 1LT, 2LT, 1SS, 2SS, and the performance-oriented ZL1. Pricing ranged from the mid $20,000s to over $60,000 depending on the trim and options. The Camaro stands out due to its aggressive styling, powerful engine options, and engaging driving experience.
The Good

The 2017 Camaro delivers thrilling performance with potent engine choices. Its sleek design evokes emotion, while surprisingly good fuel efficiency (depending on the engine) and competitive pricing appeal to the practical buyer. While not a luxury car, the Camaro offers decent comfort for a sports car and has shown respectable reliability scores.

The Bad

The 2017 Camaro's outward visibility is a known weakness, especially in the coupe, due to its high beltline and thick pillars. The rear seats are cramped, making them suitable only for children or short trips. Some owners have reported issues with the infotainment system. Monitor for potential electrical glitches.

What Problems Does the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro Have?

The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro has had some reported issues, although it's generally considered reasonably reliable. Some owners have reported problems with the infotainment system, including freezing or glitching. There have been reports of electrical issues, such as problems with the battery or sensors. It's important to check for any open recalls before purchasing a used model. Recalls can be checked on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website.
Long-term reliability concerns are relatively minimal, though regular maintenance is key to keeping the car in good condition. Some earlier sixth-generation Camaros (including some 2016 models) experienced issues with the A/C condenser. It is important to check the car's history for any reported problems or repairs. Common issues also include paint defects and squeaky interior components. Inspecting the vehicle carefully before purchase is crucial. Overall, the 2017 Camaro is a reliable vehicle when properly maintained, but potential buyers should be aware of these potential problems.

How long will the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro last?

With proper maintenance, a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro can easily reach 150,000 miles or more, translating to potentially 10-15 years of service for the average driver. Regular oil changes, fluid checks, and timely replacement of wear items like brakes and tires are crucial.
Long-term durability is generally good, but potential weaknesses include the aforementioned electrical components and the possibility of increased wear on suspension components with aggressive driving. Cars driven in harsh climates may experience rust issues over time, especially around the wheel wells and undercarriage.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro comes with a range of built-in tech and safety features. Standard features include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a rearview camera, and keyless entry. Higher trims offer an 8-inch touchscreen, Bose premium audio system, and head-up display.
Driver-assistance features are available as options, including blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist.
Safety features include anti-lock brakes, stability control, and multiple airbags. Optional safety features included lane change alert and forward collision alert.
Crash-test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) vary by body style. The coupe generally receives good ratings, while convertible ratings may be slightly lower. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) also conducted crash tests and provided ratings. Check official NHTSA and IIHS websites for specific crash test results related to the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro coupe and convertible.

2017 Chevrolet Camaro Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ranged from around $26,000 for a base 1LT to over $60,000 for a ZL1. Used market prices vary widely based on condition, mileage, and trim level. Expect to find used 2017 Camaros ranging from the high teens to the low $40,000s.
Depreciation is typical for the sports car segment. Factors affecting resale value include the car's condition, mileage, history, and the popularity of specific trims (like the SS or ZL1). Lower mileage and well-maintained examples command higher prices.

2017 Chevrolet Camaro Cost of Ownership

Insurance costs for the 2017 Camaro can be moderate to high, especially for younger drivers or those with a less-than-perfect driving record, and higher performance trims. 2017 Chevrolet Camaro Insurance

Insurance for a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Cabriolet with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro Compare to Other Cabriolet?

The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro competes directly with the Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger. In terms of performance, the Camaro often edges out the Mustang in handling and track prowess, while the Challenger offers more spacious rear seating. Feature-wise, all three are relatively comparable, though specific options and configurations vary.
Reliability is generally similar across the board, though some sources may rate one slightly higher than the others. Price-wise, the Camaro is usually competitive.
Alternatives to consider include the Nissan 370Z (more sports-focused, less practical), and the Hyundai Genesis Coupe (discontinued but offers good value on the used market).
The Mustang offers a slightly more comfortable ride, while the Challenger provides a larger interior. If track performance is a top priority, the Camaro SS or ZL1 are excellent choices. If rear seat space is important, the Challenger is the better pick. Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual needs and preferences.

Final Verdict: Is the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro a Good Cabriolet?

The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro is ideal for driving enthusiasts who prioritize performance and aggressive styling. It's worth buying as a used car, offering a good balance of power and value, especially in the SS trim. The 2LT trim offers a good balance of features and price. The base model is a decent value for the money if you don't need a lot of features.
Consider a pre-purchase inspection to check for any potential issues, and research the car's history for any reported problems or repairs. A well-maintained 2017 Camaro can provide years of driving pleasure.

I’ve had my Camaro for almost 2 years.

I’ve had my Camaro for almost 2 years. I bought it at a very high mileage (80,000) for 17k…2017 1LT Turbo… I was very scared and nervous in the beginning but being 22 with average income & average credit, this is what they could loan me for a sports car. I took the risk & I don’t regret my buy at all. I’ve learned my car and what she needs. I take care of her and she takes care of me. Little to no maintenance. She’s extremely reliable. The beginning of this year I had to replace the thermostat $700 but that was it. I’ve driven it from California to Chicago there and back no issues. I have 110,000 miles now and she’s a BEAST. Can’t wait till I can purchase a brand new one!!! Chevy did their big one!

Storm Beater

Purchased a used 50th anniversary 2SS convertible this past September. The color is amazing as well as the ride quality enhanced by the magnetic ride feature. Decided to return to NC on the day that CT and NY got hammered by the torrential rains. It was raining 2 inches per hour with high winds and almost zero visibility. Of course we left CT in the early morning and drove over sixty miles in the dark facing torrential rains. We actually aquaplaned at 30mph. The car shined during this storm. Of particular note was the absolute weather sealing of the top. Not a single drop of water entered the cabin. The rain water in the road cleaned the undercarriage to factory fresh condition. Since our purchase we added a pedal commander that works great. I highly recommend the Gen 6 Camaro to anyone who loves to drive. I forgot to mention it has a fantastic 6 Speed manual gearbox
