The Good
The 2001 Camaro's key advantages are its strong performance thanks to the available V8 engines. While not the most luxurious, it offers decent comfort for a sports car. Its iconic design evokes an emotional connection. For practical buyers, it provides a relatively affordable entry point into the world of muscle cars. Reliability, when properly maintained, is generally good.
The Bad
Known weaknesses of the 2001 Camaro include its plasticky interior materials. The T-tops can leak, and the rear window defrost can fail. Suspension components and the steering system can wear over time, requiring attention. Also, be wary of cars with modifications, as the quality of the work may vary. Oil consumption can be an issue on higher mileage examples.

What Problems Does the 2001 Chevrolet Camaro Have?
Recalls for the 2001 Camaro were relatively limited, but it's crucial to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any outstanding recalls related to safety or emissions. Specific problem areas include the fuel pump, which may crack and leak fuel, increasing the risk of a fire. The ignition switch can also be problematic.
Long-term reliability concerns revolve around the aging components of the car. Suspension bushings and ball joints wear out, and the steering system can develop play. Rust can also be a problem, especially in regions with harsh winters. The automatic transmission can also experience problems at higher mileages, particularly if not properly maintained. The air conditioning system is also prone to failure after several years.
How long will the 2001 Chevrolet Camaro last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features included standard dual front airbags. Anti-lock brakes (ABS) were optional on some trims. Traction control was also available as an option, enhancing stability during acceleration, especially with the powerful V8 engine. Side airbags were not available.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) generally show decent performance for frontal impacts. However, side-impact protection was less impressive. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) did not conduct full crash tests on the 2001 Camaro.
Overall, the 2001 Camaro's tech and safety features are dated compared to modern vehicles. Its appeal lies more in its performance and styling than its advanced technology. Key options like ABS and traction control are worth seeking out for improved safety.

How Does the 2001 Chevrolet Camaro Compare to Other Coupe?
Performance: The Camaro, particularly in Z28 and SS trims, offered comparable or better performance than the Mustang GT. The Firebird Trans Am shared the Camaro's engine options and performance.
Features: The Camaro's features were generally similar to the Mustang's, focusing on performance rather than luxury. The Eclipse and Celica offered more modern features but lacked the V8 power.
Reliability: Reliability was comparable to the Mustang, with both having their share of common issues. The Japanese rivals were generally considered more reliable.
Price: The Camaro was typically priced competitively with the Mustang, offering good value for the performance. The Eclipse and Celica were often cheaper.
Alternatives: If reliability is a top priority, the Mitsubishi Eclipse or Toyota Celica might be better choices, though they sacrifice V8 power. The Ford Mustang is a very similar alternative, offering comparable performance and features. The Pontiac Firebird (Trans Am) is essentially the same car as the Camaro with different styling. A used BMW 3 Series (E46) could also be considered for a more refined driving experience, though maintenance costs will be higher.

Just bought the car.Just bought the car. 2001 Camaro SS in dark metallic navy blue. Honestly the nicest color combo I have ever seen on this car. Stunning to say the least. Tan leather interior. Just turned 50k miles and mint isn't even good enough. Literally showroom quality in and out. Hands down the nicest one I've had and this will be about my tenth F body from 89 to 01 all nice cars. My last one was a 98 Z28 mostly original except the exhaust and a few bells and whistles but nothing over the top. Just had the rear carrier and axle bearings and seals done. 182k and ran like the day it had 60k on it. If you don't beat it and keep up with the oil and other very important and often overlooked maintainance they will go until you crash and total it. That LS1 will just not die unless you kill it will neglegence or stupidity. Best platform GM ever built in my opinion. Could not be happier. Umi 1.5 drop springs with koni shocks and a tik performance m/c for the clutch. C5 ZO6 rims and tires just turned 500 miles. Perfect stance just perfect. 18's in the rear and 17's up front with toyo 888"s. That's about it for mods. Got a few more things I'd like to do come the spring time. There you have it. The nicest Camaro SS out there. I'm sure there are some beauty's out there but better I can't imagine its possible

My first and favorite CarMy first car was a 01 camaro, it was only a V6 but it was fun to drive and it got decent gas milage-although it was rebuilt I never had any major engine or transmission issues with it when I owned it. It was also a convertible which was so nice during the summer time and the aggressive design caught plenty of attention.
