The Good
The 2002 Camaro boasts strong performance from its available V8 engines, appealing to driving enthusiasts. It offers relatively good reliability for its class and can be an affordable performance car, attracting budget-conscious buyers. While not luxurious, it provided decent comfort for a sports car, and its iconic design continues to turn heads. Overall, the car offers a compelling blend of speed, style, and value.
The Bad
Common weaknesses of the 2002 Camaro include potential issues with the T-tops (if equipped), particularly leaking. The plastic interior trim is prone to cracking and wear. Some owners have reported problems with the electrical system and oil consumption in the LS1 engines. Rust can also be a concern, especially in colder climates. What Problems Does the 2002 Chevrolet Camaro Have?
How long will the 2002 Chevrolet Camaro last?
Positive Owner Reviews
Negative Owner Reviews
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features included standard front airbags and anti-lock brakes (ABS). Traction control was available as an option.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) generally show acceptable performance for frontal impacts, though side-impact protection was less impressive. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) ratings were not readily available for this specific model year, but generally, cars of this era had lower scores compared to modern vehicles due to less advanced safety technology and structural design.
Optional features varied depending on the trim level and included upgrades like leather seating, premium audio systems (such as Monsoon), and T-tops. The absence of modern infotainment and safety tech is a significant consideration for buyers accustomed to newer vehicles.

How Does the 2002 Chevrolet Camaro Compare to Other Coupe?
Regarding features, all three were relatively basic compared to modern cars. Reliability was similar across the board, with each having its own set of common issues. Price-wise, they were also competitive.
Alternatives to the 2002 Camaro include the Nissan 350Z and the Mazda RX-8 (later model years). The 350Z offered better handling and a more refined driving experience, while the RX-8 provided unique styling and a high-revving rotary engine (although with potential reliability concerns). If reliability is a major concern, a later-model Mustang might be a slightly better choice, though with a potentially higher price. Overall, the Camaro represents a solid value for performance and style, but buyers should be aware of its potential maintenance needs.

Best Affordable American Muscle Car in 2002Z28 Convertible is sleek, fast and fun to drive. LS1 is amazingly agile, efficient and dependable. Fun, Fun, Fun. The LS1 coupled with a 6 speed manual transmission makes this car fly. The suspension hugs the road around turns like a far more expensive sports car. The only knock may be reduced rear visibility with the top up. The profile of this car with its nose tipped and tail raised ever so slightly send a message that it can move. Turn the key and her the confident rumble of the LS1. Highly recommend the 2002 Camaro Z28 Convertible.

Very reliable, responsive and a great valueIβm 6β5Γ’β¬Β and had no problem feeling good behind the wheel. Iβve owned 3 LS1 vehicles now without a single issue. These engines are bulletproof and the 6 speed manual a breeze to drive as well as lots of fun.

The most fun you can have for the moneyI bought my 17 year old 2002 SS convertible with 10,500 miles. Itβs a time capsule! Itβs great fun to drive, reliable, fast and beautiful. Itβs even easy on the gas, for such a fast car.

Favorite car I have ever ownedHas plenty of power and most comfortable interior. Only thing I know that is an issue for some people is they can't see the end of the hood. But they just don't know their own car very well. Great car for weekend cruising or daily driver.
