The Chevrolet Camaro, a legendary American muscle car, continued its legacy in 2022. Available as a coupe or convertible, it's offered in several trims: 1LS, 1LT, 2LT, 3LT, LT1, 1SS, and ZL1. The 2022 Camaro's pricing ranged from approximately $25,000 to over $65,000, depending on trim and options. Its potent engine options and iconic design make it a popular choice for enthusiasts seeking thrilling performance and head-turning looks.
The Good

The 2022 Camaro offers exhilarating performance with a range of powerful engines. Its bold design appeals to emotional buyers, while surprisingly decent fuel economy (depending on the engine) and a competitive price point appeal to practical ones. While not known for supreme comfort, it provides a driver-focused experience and boasts decent reliability for a performance vehicle.

The Bad

The 2022 Camaro's weaknesses include limited rear visibility, a cramped rear seat (especially in the coupe), and some cheaper interior materials in lower trims. Potential buyers should watch out for excessive oil consumption in certain engines and ensure proper maintenance records, especially for models with performance modifications.

What Problems Does the 2022 Chevrolet Camaro Have?

The 2022 Chevrolet Camaro, like previous model years, has experienced some frequently reported problems. One notable concern is excessive oil consumption, particularly in the V8 engines. Some owners have reported needing to add oil more frequently than expected between scheduled oil changes. Another common complaint revolves around the infotainment system, with reports of glitches, freezing, and connectivity issues. While not widespread, some owners have also reported transmission issues, particularly with the automatic transmissions, including rough shifting or delayed engagement.
Recalls for the 2022 Camaro have been relatively limited, but it's crucial to check the NHTSA website for the latest recall information. General long-term reliability concerns center around the complexity of the performance-oriented components. The high-performance engines and transmissions, while providing exhilarating performance, may require more frequent maintenance and be more prone to issues over time, especially with aggressive driving habits. Additionally, the electronic components, such as sensors and modules, can be susceptible to failure with age. Potential buyers should carefully review the vehicle's maintenance history and consider a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic to identify any potential issues before making a purchase.

How long will the 2022 Chevrolet Camaro last?

With proper maintenance, a 2022 Chevrolet Camaro can provide well over 150,000 miles or 10+ years of service. However, longevity heavily depends on maintenance habits. Regular oil changes, timely servicing of the transmission and cooling systems, and addressing minor issues promptly are crucial. Long-term durability weaknesses often stem from the strain placed on the engine and transmission, especially in higher-performance models. Suspension components and bushings may also wear out over time, requiring replacement. Rust can also be a concern in regions with harsh winters and salted roads; undercarriage inspections are advised.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2022 Chevrolet Camaro features a standard 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Higher trims offer an 8-inch touchscreen with navigation. Entertainment features include available Bose premium audio systems.
Standard driver-assistance features include a rearview camera. Optional features include:
  • Rear park assist
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Forward collision alert
  • Head-up display
Safety features include standard airbags, stability control, and traction control.
Crash test ratings from the NHTSA and IIHS vary depending on the model year and specific test. The 2022 Camaro generally scores well in frontal and side crash tests. However, the small overlap front crash test can be a weak point.
Optional performance tech includes:
  • Launch control
  • Performance Traction Management
  • Magnetic Ride Control (on ZL1)

2022 Chevrolet Camaro Prices and Market Value

The 2022 Chevrolet Camaro had a starting MSRP of around $25,000, with higher trims like the ZL1 exceeding $65,000. Used market prices currently range from the low $20,000s for base models to over $60,000 for low-mileage ZL1s. Depreciation varies based on trim, mileage, condition, and location. High-performance models and those with desirable options tend to hold their value better. Factors affecting resale value include: clean title, low mileage, well-documented maintenance, and popular color combinations.

2022 Chevrolet Camaro Cost of Ownership

The 2022 Chevrolet Camaro can be moderately costly to own. Insurance premiums are generally higher due to its sporty nature and potential for speed. Fuel costs vary greatly depending on the engine choice, with the V8 models being considerably thirstier. Maintenance costs are average for a performance car, but repairs can be expensive, especially for specialized parts. Overall, a 2.0L turbo model is more economical, while the ZL1 can be quite costly in the long run.

2022 Chevrolet Camaro Insurance

Insurance for a 2022 Chevrolet Camaro is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Passenger Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2022 Chevrolet Camaro Compare to Other Passenger Sedan?

The 2022 Chevrolet Camaro competes primarily with the Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger. In terms of performance, the Camaro often edges out the Mustang in handling, while the Challenger offers more powerful engine options (especially in higher trims) but at the expense of handling. Feature-wise, all three are fairly comparable, though the Camaro's rear seat is the most cramped. Reliability is a mixed bag, with all three having potential issues, but the Mustang generally has a slight edge. Price-wise, the Camaro is often positioned competitively.
Alternatives:
  • Ford Mustang: A very similar option with a slightly different character, often praised for its heritage and sound.
  • Dodge Challenger: Offers a more comfortable ride and larger interior, but less sporty handling.
  • Nissan Z: A newer entry offering a blend of performance and modern features.
  • Toyota Supra: A more expensive option, but offers exceptional performance and handling.
For buyers prioritizing handling and a sharper driving experience, the Camaro is a strong choice. If comfort and space are more important, the Challenger might be a better fit. If you prefer the badge and sound, the Mustang is the way to go.

Final Verdict: Is the 2022 Chevrolet Camaro a Good Passenger Sedan?

The 2022 Chevrolet Camaro is ideal for driving enthusiasts who prioritize performance and aggressive styling. It's worth buying if you're aware of its limitations, such as limited rear visibility and a cramped rear seat. Buying used can offer significant savings, but a pre-purchase inspection is crucial. The LT1 trim provides a great balance of performance and value. If budget is less of a concern and you want the ultimate Camaro experience, the ZL1 is the way to go. Consider the 2.0L turbo for better fuel economy if performance is secondary.

Blind spot

There is somewhat of a blind spot. I am having great difficulty making right turns or parking this car when I can’t see all the lines on the space. I’m a short statuted person so raising the seat more doesn’t seem to be an option.

Great car.

Great car generally. It is a very pretty car. The turning is very stiff and it is really fast. The visibility isn’t very good, and it has tiny back seats, but those are the only cons. The entire design is awesome, and though a lot of Chevys don’t last long, this one has been running at peak performance for about 6 months and still performs the way it did when I bought it.

ZL1convertible

ZL1 is best bang for the Buck out there! Engine is amazing and car handles like it’s on rails! Love it! Best convertible option in a muscle car by far! Like having a Corvette with a back seat!

Camero

Get rid of the current design. Go to the 1971 look modified will be a lot better. The Interior might work, but I am not sure.
