The Chevrolet Camaro, a legendary American muscle car, entered its sixth generation with the 2019 model. This iteration continues the Camaro's legacy of performance and aggressive styling. Available as a coupe or convertible, the 2019 Camaro offered trims ranging from the base 1LS to the high-performance ZL1. Key trims include the LS, LT, SS, and ZL1. Pricing ranged approximately from $25,000 to over $60,000, depending on the trim and options. The Camaro remains popular due to its powerful engine options, sharp handling, and iconic design, appealing to enthusiasts seeking an engaging driving experience.
The Good

The 2019 Chevrolet Camaro boasts impressive performance, especially with its V8 engines, appealing to driving enthusiasts. Its aggressive design is undeniably attractive. While not the most spacious, it offers decent comfort for a sports car. Reliability is generally good, and it holds its value reasonably well. The range of engine options provides some level of fuel efficiency depending on the configuration, catering to both emotional desires for power and practical considerations of daily drivability.

The Bad

The 2019 Chevrolet Camaro's weaknesses include limited rear visibility due to its high beltline and thick pillars. The rear seats are cramped, making it unsuitable for regular passenger use. Some owners have reported issues with the infotainment system and electronic components. Watch out for potential tire wear due to the car's sporty handling and aggressive driving style. Potential buyers should carefully inspect for any signs of previous modifications or track use.

What Problems Does the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro include issues with the infotainment system, such as screen freezing, Bluetooth connectivity problems, and unresponsive touch controls. Some owners have also reported minor electrical glitches, such as issues with the power windows or door locks. There have been some reports of transmission issues, particularly with the automatic transmission, including rough shifting or hesitation. Certain model years of the Camaro, including 2019, have had recalls related to fuel system components, such as fuel pump failures which could lead to stalling. Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the complexity of the electronics and the potential for wear and tear on high-performance components, especially in models that are driven aggressively or tracked. The paint quality has also been a concern for some owners, with reports of chipping or premature wear. It's advisable to check the vehicle's history for any recalls and ensure that any necessary repairs have been performed. Prospective buyers should also have a pre-purchase inspection done by a qualified mechanic to assess the overall condition and identify any potential problems.

How long will the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro last?

A well-maintained 2019 Chevrolet Camaro can realistically provide 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-15 years of service, depending on driving habits and maintenance. Regular oil changes, fluid checks, and timely replacement of wear items are crucial. Long-term durability can be affected by the car's usage; frequent track days or aggressive driving can accelerate wear on components like brakes, tires, and suspension. Weaknesses over time may include degradation of the infotainment system, potential issues with the automatic transmission, and the aforementioned paint issues. Models with the higher-performance engines may require more frequent and costly maintenance. Careful attention to manufacturer-recommended service intervals is essential to maximize the Camaro's lifespan.

Nice car just liked the styling of the Dodge Challenger better. So I purchased a Challenger for a better price than the Camaro and I'm very happy with my choice.

Higher trims offer a larger touchscreen and a Bose premium audio system. Standard driver-assistance features include a rearview camera. Optional features include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist. Forward collision alert is also available on some trims. The Camaro includes standard safety features like airbags, stability control, and traction control. Optional safety features on higher trims offer added protection.

2019 Chevrolet Camaro Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro ranged from around $25,000 for the base 1LS model to over $60,000 for the ZL1. Current used market prices vary depending on the trim, mileage, and condition. Generally, expect to find 2019 Camaros ranging from approximately $20,000 to $50,000 on the used market. Depreciation is influenced by factors like mileage, condition, and trim level. Higher-performance trims like the SS and ZL1 tend to hold their value better. Lower mileage and a clean vehicle history report positively impact resale value. The overall demand for muscle cars also plays a role in the Camaro's resale value.

2019 Chevrolet Camaro Cost of Ownership

The 2019 Chevrolet Camaro's ownership costs can be moderate to high, depending on the trim and driving habits. Insurance costs are typically higher for sports cars, especially for younger drivers. Fuel costs vary significantly based on the engine; the V8 models consume considerably more fuel than the 4-cylinder. Maintenance costs are generally reasonable, but repairs can be expensive, especially for specialized components on the SS and ZL1 trims. Long-term ownership costs can be reduced with regular maintenance, but overall, the Camaro is not the most economical vehicle to own compared to more fuel-efficient or less performance-oriented cars.

How Does the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro Compare to Other Coupe?

The 2019 Chevrolet Camaro competes with the Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger. In terms of performance, the Camaro is often praised for its handling and agility, giving it an edge on twisty roads compared to the Challenger. The Mustang, particularly with the GT trim, offers similar performance and a strong V8 engine.
Regarding features, all three cars offer comparable infotainment systems and available driver-assistance technologies. However, the Camaro's rear seat space and visibility are often criticized compared to the Mustang and especially the Challenger, which offers a more spacious interior.
Reliability is generally similar among the three, but individual owner experiences may vary. Price-wise, the Camaro is typically competitive, offering a range of trims to match different budgets.
Alternatives to the Camaro include the Nissan 370Z (for a more focused sports car experience), and potentially even sporty sedans like the Kia Stinger, which offers a balance of performance and practicality.
If you prioritize handling and a more driver-focused experience, the Camaro is a good choice. If you need more rear seat space and a comfortable ride, the Dodge Challenger might be better. If you want a blend of performance and modern features, the Ford Mustang remains a strong contender.

Final Verdict: Is the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro a Good Coupe?

The 2019 Chevrolet Camaro is ideal for driving enthusiasts who prioritize performance, handling, and aggressive styling. It's worth buying, especially on the used market, if you're looking for a fun and engaging sports car at a reasonable price. However, be aware of its limited rear visibility and cramped rear seats. A used Camaro SS offers excellent value for its powerful V8 engine, while lower trims provide a more affordable entry point. Consider a thorough inspection before purchasing to ensure the car has been well-maintained and doesn't have any hidden issues. If passenger space is a major concern, other options might be more suitable.

Only a week in and best bang for the buck car.

2019 Camaro SS 1LE M6 is the best bang for the buck so far in my short time owning it. For being considered a "heavy" car, it is incredibly nimble and racy. Smooth when desired. (Notice I flipped those driving preferences!!!) Not a ton of space inside but the car is not meant to be a family daily driver. Although at first the car felt hard to see out of it, really is not that bad at all when you get used to the sight lines. Great fun!

WHAT A BEAST ... awesome machine

I can't say enough about this vehicle. It so much fun to drive. If you're looking for a fast and fun car, try test driving one. It's plenty fast, and there isn't really any reason to buy the next stage up.

A beautiful car

There was so much to like about this car but it sat kind of low and it was only a two door so it wasn't going to meet my needs. I loved the 6 speed manual transmission but decided to purchase a brand new 4 door sedan.

If you want bang for the buck, look no further

19 1SS has few flaws. It's FAST, sounds amazing, handles amazing, seats are quite comfortable, ride quality is good, good infotainment. A10 is impressive. Shifts very fast. Cons: center console is awkward and shallow, visibility not the greatest, a bit of road noise but not excessive. Don't buy this car for gas mpg. I average around 17mpg and that's not driving it that hard but only drive about 7K per year on avg. Hwy mileage is good though. This car is a nasty beast period and for the price I paid (<$35K), an insane bargain.
