What Problems Does the 2022 Chevrolet Malibu Have?

While the 2022 Chevrolet Malibu generally enjoys decent reliability, some issues have been reported across various model years. One area of concern revolves around the transmission, particularly the 6-speed automatic paired with the 1.5L turbo engine. Some owners have reported rough shifting, hesitation, or even complete transmission failure, although these instances seem less prevalent in the 2022 model compared to earlier years.
Another potential issue involves the electrical system. Owners have reported problems with the infotainment system, including glitches, freezing, and connectivity issues with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
It's crucial to check for any open recalls before purchasing a used Malibu. Recalls can address safety-related defects that could pose a risk. Checking the NHTSA website with the VIN will provide up-to-date information on any applicable recalls.
Long-term reliability can be influenced by maintenance habits. Regular oil changes, fluid checks, and timely servicing are crucial for preventing major issues. Prior owners driving habits and the environment in which the vehicle was driven also plays a crucial role. Potential buyers are advised to inspect the vehicles history thoroughly, including maintenance records, and consider a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic.

How long will the 2022 Chevrolet Malibu last?

With proper maintenance, a 2022 Chevrolet Malibu can reasonably be expected to reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles or provide 10-12 years of service. Key to longevity is adherence to the recommended maintenance schedule, including regular oil changes, fluid flushes, and timely replacement of wear items like brakes and tires. The 1.5L turbo engine, while generally reliable, benefits from careful attention to oil changes to prevent potential turbocharger issues. Suspension components and bushings may require replacement over time, as is typical with most vehicles. Rust can be a concern in regions with harsh winters, so rust prevention measures are beneficial.

reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2022 Chevrolet Malibu Compare to Other Passenger Sedan?

The 2022 Chevrolet Malibu competes against rivals such as the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, and Hyundai Sonata. In terms of performance, the Malibu's base engine is less powerful than some competitors. The Camry and Accord offer more engaging driving experiences.
Regarding features, the Malibu provides a competitive set, including wireless smartphone integration, but some rivals offer more advanced driver-assistance technologies. Reliability is a mixed bag; the Camry and Accord have historically demonstrated superior reliability.
In terms of price, the Malibu is often more affordable than the Camry and Accord, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious buyers. The Hyundai Sonata offers a similar value proposition with a more modern design.
Alternatives: If reliability and resale value are top priorities, the Toyota Camry or Honda Accord are better choices, albeit at a higher price. If a more stylish and feature-rich option is desired at a similar price point, the Hyundai Sonata or Kia K5 are worth considering. If you want a more engaging driving experience, consider Mazda6 (if still available). However, for buyers prioritizing affordability and a comfortable ride, the Malibu remains a reasonable option, especially if a used model can be found at a good price.

Final Verdict: Is the 2022 Chevrolet Malibu a Good Passenger Sedan?

The 2022 Chevrolet Malibu is a suitable choice for buyers seeking an affordable and comfortable mid-size sedan, particularly those prioritizing value over outright performance or luxury. It's ideal for commuters and small families who appreciate a smooth ride and user-friendly technology. Whether it's worth buying depends on individual needs and priorities. A used Malibu, especially the LT trim with added features, can represent excellent value. It's essential to thoroughly inspect any used model for potential issues and ensure it has a clean service history. If long-term reliability is a major concern, consider alternatives like the Toyota Camry or Honda Accord. However, if budget is a primary factor, the Malibu remains a compelling option.

2022 Malibu Premier

I've had my 2022 Premier for about 6 months. I like it more than I want to - I was waiting to buy a Cadillac later this year! I saw this Premier (2liter turbo) that was new last October with less than 4k miles (and 20+% under list) and could not pass it up. It's comfortable, quiet, handles well and is OK quick. It has heated rear seats, which I don't need but no power tilt/telescope steering wheel or power up pass. window. Fuel economy is spot on it's EPA rating. I have 2 small complaints. (1) the radio, set to Sirius/XM, will change to 97.4 FM - no warning/no reason. My local dealer updated the radio software but this stlll happens. (2) At the same instant the dash pod winks out...then comes back. Weird but I'm not gonna sweat this. Overall a nice GM product.

Still loving my 2022 Malibu LS

I purchased my Malibu LS almost a year ago and remain very satisfied with this vehicle, it looks very classy, it is very fuel efficient, it is very peppy with the 4cyl turbo engine, this is very good more basic transportation compared to other brands, if your not hung up on having all the bells and whistles buy this car!!!

I rented this car for 11 days

This review is based on an 11 day car rental. LS model. I haven’t driven a GM car in years. Much has improved from the 1990 models. Overall this is a good car because of: good gas economy, large trunk, hold four passengers, decent power, smooth CVT transmission, decent exterior styling. Negatives: seats that sit very low and too curved, hard to get in and out of car, lacking safety features such as front cameras, auto braking, cross traffic monitoring. View out of windshield makes it nearly impossible to safely park this car or drive on narrow streets.

Chevy could’ve did better

Low profile car. Pickup speed good backup camera touch screen dash with features. Good on Gas. Rides smooth however for a 2022 I was disappointed in this car seems like it’s missing something it reminds me more of a 2014 to be honest. Nice and roomy i slept in it seat back and was out no blanket no pillow or cook in my neck whenni woke up. Keyless entry touchstart. Chevy could’ve did better with this version nothing really to brag about this car besides GAS SAVER.

Good looking economy car hits the mark!

Bought the Malibu RS trim, I like the looks better than the LS/LT and it's also slightly less expensive. This car really hits the mark for an economy car. I get 10mpg more than my old 20mpg V6 twin turbo Taurus. Cheaper to run than my old car but not nearly as fast.... but that's what you give up to get the better fuel economy. This car has a CVT transmission and that forces a different driving style than a car with a normal transmission. You can't do heavy throttle starts, you just get a lot of noise and not much speed. It feels like the trans is slipping when you floor it, and it probably is. However if you start slow and then roll into the throttle it will actually push you back in your seat. Overall good performance, you just can't expect to drag race with it. Very nice as a stylish people mover.

Can't go wrong with Malibu RS

I bought a Malibu RS; it is my first Chevrolet, and I am very impress with the style, paint and interior design, it looks elegant and is it roomy. The price for this car was just right for my budget, compared with other makes and models that I have search for.
