Eugene S | March 31, 2025
The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe is a full-size SUV that builds upon Chevrolet's long history of truck and SUV production. It features a traditional body-on-frame construction. Model years for this generation Tahoe are 2015-2020. Key trims include LS, LT, and LTZ. Expect a used price range of approximately $25,000 to $40,000, depending on condition and mileage. Its spacious interior, towing capacity, and robust nature make it a popular choice for families and those needing a workhorse vehicle.
The Good

The 2015 Tahoe offers a blend of practicality and comfort. Its strong V8 engine provides ample performance for towing and hauling. The spacious interior and comfortable ride appeal to families, while its rugged design and reputation for reliability attract buyers seeking a dependable SUV. It balances capability with a touch of luxury, offering good value in the full-size SUV segment.

The Bad

The 2015 Tahoe has some known weaknesses. The Active Fuel Management (AFM) system can sometimes lead to oil consumption issues. The infotainment system can be buggy, and some owners report issues with the automatic transmission. Rust can be a problem in certain climates, so inspect the undercarriage carefully. Suspension components can also wear out over time, particularly the Autoride system.

What Problems Does the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe Have?

The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe has several frequently reported problems. The Active Fuel Management (AFM) system, designed to improve fuel economy by deactivating cylinders, is a common source of concern. It can lead to excessive oil consumption, requiring frequent top-ups. This issue sometimes necessitates costly repairs, including replacing the valve lifters or even the entire engine.
Another prevalent problem is related to the transmission. Some owners have reported rough shifting or complete transmission failure, especially at higher mileage. The infotainment system can also be problematic, with reports of freezing, unresponsive touchscreens, and Bluetooth connectivity issues.
There have been recalls issued for the 2015 Tahoe, including issues with the airbags and power steering assist. It's important to check the vehicle's VIN with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to ensure all recalls have been addressed.
Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the AFM system and transmission issues. Additionally, the magnetic ride control suspension, available on higher trims, can be expensive to repair. Regular maintenance, including timely oil changes and transmission fluid flushes, is crucial to mitigate some of these potential problems.

How long will the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe last?

With proper maintenance, a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe can realistically achieve 200,000 miles or more. Many owners report reaching this milestone and beyond with diligent care. However, longevity depends heavily on maintenance habits. Neglecting oil changes, transmission fluid flushes, and other routine services will significantly shorten its lifespan.
Long-term durability weaknesses often surface around the Active Fuel Management (AFM) system, potentially leading to increased oil consumption. Suspension components, particularly the Autoride system, and the transmission can also exhibit wear and tear over time. Addressing these issues proactively can extend the vehicle's useful life.

Tammy
I purchased my 2015 Chevy Tahoe used. I've had it 3 years now. Love the look and size. I recently replaced the transmission at 125,000 miles. The MAF sensor needed replacing and now replacing the magnetic front suspension and air conditioning lines at 145,000 miles. At it being 9 years old, I'm sure things needed to be replaced but more things than I expected. I'm dreading the Infotainment system replacement. Constant beeping, changing stations, changing screens. Overall, I do love my Tahoe but my 2001 Ford Excursion XLT never needed the replacement of things like this SUV and we owned it 20 years.
Mike's Tahoe

Laura
Bought this vehicle with 30 miles on it -- brand new as we new we were going to making many trips in it and needed something reliable. We purchased the extended warranty -- 5 year, 100,000 mile. We got anything BUT reliable! The shocks went out at 40,000 -- over $1.5k to fix. The a/c went out at 103k miles -- 0ver $1,200 to fix The transmission went out at 107k miles -- almost $5k to fix Nearly $8k to fix issues on a vehicle we owned less than 4 years, and barely enough miles to "be broken in". However, according to the dealer -- Hewlett Chevrolet in Round Rock, TX .... since we got over 100k miles, we got a lot of good use out of it and should "expect some repairs"!! I have owned Hondas and Toyotas that did not have any "repairs" until they had over 250k miles on them!!
AT
I am TRULY disappointed with my 2015 Tahoe SUV. I bought it in 2015 at a Chevy dealership and Its already having AC issues. The dealership told me that I MUST order a new AC condenser, only available AFTERMARKET nationwide because the original part is coming from overseas and no matter what, it will cost me $1300, for a 2 years old car. WHO wants to drive a vehicle without AC in FL??? To make things worse, electronic problems, AC failure, already a new battery, and there is NO RECALLS.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe offers a range of tech, entertainment, driver-assistance, and safety features. Standard features include a rearview camera and rear parking sensors. The MyLink infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen is available on LT and LTZ trims, offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Optional features include a navigation system and a rear-seat entertainment system with a Blu-ray player.
Safety features include standard stability control, anti-lock brakes, and a suite of airbags. Optional safety features include adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.

2015 Chevrolet Tahoe Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe ranged in price from approximately $45,000 for the base LS trim to over $60,000 for a fully loaded LTZ. Currently, used market prices typically range from $25,000 to $40,000, depending on mileage, condition, and trim level.
The Tahoe holds its value relatively well compared to some other SUVs, but it has still depreciated considerably from its original MSRP. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, overall condition, maintenance history, and geographic location. Models with lower mileage, a clean title, and a well-documented service record command higher prices.

2015 Chevrolet Tahoe Cost of Ownership

The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe is generally considered moderately costly to own. Insurance rates are typically higher than average due to its size and value. Fuel economy is not its strong suit, resulting in higher fuel costs. Maintenance, including oil changes and tire rotations, is relatively standard. However, potential repairs related to the AFM system, transmission, and suspension can be expensive. Long-term ownership costs can be significant, especially if major repairs are needed.

2015 Chevrolet Tahoe Insurance

Insurance for a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe competes with other full-size SUVs such as the Ford Expedition, Toyota Sequoia, and Nissan Armada. In terms of performance, the Tahoe's 5.3L V8 is comparable to the Expedition's EcoBoost V6, though the Expedition often feels more responsive. The Sequoia offers similar power but can feel dated in terms of interior design and technology. The Armada lags behind in fuel economy.
Feature-wise, the Tahoe is competitive, offering a good balance of standard and available options. Reliability is a mixed bag; while the Tahoe has a strong reputation, the AFM and transmission issues are concerns. The Sequoia is known for its reliability, while the Expedition has had its share of issues as well.
Price-wise, the Tahoe generally falls in the middle of the pack. Alternatives to consider include the GMC Yukon, which is essentially a more upscale version of the Tahoe. The Ford Expedition offers a more modern driving experience and potentially better fuel economy. If reliability is a top priority, the Toyota Sequoia is a solid choice, despite its older design. If budget is a primary concern, the Nissan Armada can represent a better value proposition in the used market.
Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual needs and priorities.

Ranks #894 SUV

Final Verdict: Is the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe is a good option for buyers needing a spacious SUV with strong towing capabilities and a comfortable ride. It's ideal for large families or those who frequently haul cargo. Whether it's worth buying depends on the price and condition. A well-maintained example with lower mileage can be a worthwhile purchase.
However, potential buyers should be aware of the known issues, particularly the AFM system and transmission problems. A pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic is highly recommended. Consider the LT trim for a good balance of features and value. If fuel economy is a major concern, other alternatives might be more suitable.

I purchased my 2015 Chevy Tahoe used.

2015 TAHOE

Bought my 2015 Tahoe new, 124,000 miles later no major problems with normal maintenance. Annoying interior lights flicker when brakes depressed, replaced front ball joints. Overall great truck, car must have built on a Wednsday.

Very dissapointed.

Bought a 2015 Tahoe new. I came from a Toyota Tacoma. Boy what a mistake buying the Tahoe. 15k in the AC condenser went. At 17k it went again. At 20k the brake vacuum pump went. after numerous recalls I thought I was OK. At about 50k the engine developed a lifter tap and the check engine light came on. Brought back to the dealer they replaced all the lifters on the right side. After replacing the window switches and window motor I though I was done. Just as I approached 100k the trans blew. Now my AC compressor failed. I am a stickler with maintenance. I over maintain my vehicles. I change my oil with full synthetic every 3k miles. In the past 8 years I have owned this vehicle I have had nothing but problems. I owned my Tacoma for 10 years and only put a wheel bearing in it. Heck the original battery lasted for 7 years. Never again will GM get my money.

Buyer Beware

Bought this used in 2020 with 50k miles, got a great deal or so I thought. AC went out 2 months after purchasing. Has had mechanical failure after failure and of course it’s all been out of pocket costs. There’s only 98,500 miles on it now and I’m currently looking for a new vehicle before the transmission decides to blow up. The new vehicle won’t be a GM product. Only things I like about this car, the interior is nice for what you get, not too flashy but just enough. Rides really well and is fun to drive.

Not the most reliable truck I own

Serious car issues after 2 months of purchasing it. I was told I needed to put down extensive amount of money…..and they sold me a 2015 lemon……

Good car! Better than a Nissan.

The car is gorgeous but the dealership did not take good care of it nor provided proper teaching to any of its clients about how to maintain it. They just sold it and did oil changes but did not diagnose it correctly and even with the warranty did not do the right things to repair the car or treated us fairly. They are not trustworthy. The car is gorgeous and comfortable.

I’m safe

2015 year is the worst year you can purchase due to the recalls/ Safety issues! I absolutely love my baby but the price tag for repairs is higher then the value of the vehicle!

JUST BUY A SURBURBAN CHEAP A$$

This car is way worse than a minivan. If u are buying something for room and comfort but also something that will haul it, buy the surburban. The Tahoe has no room for anything. If u just want something to have a lot of people than buy a minivan.
