The Good

The 2017 Tahoe offers strong V8 performance and ample cargo space, appealing to practical buyers. The comfortable ride and available luxury features like leather seats and advanced infotainment systems cater to emotional desires. What Problems Does the 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe include issues with the Active Fuel Management (AFM) system, which can lead to excessive oil consumption. Some owners have reported transmission issues, such as hard shifting or slipping. Electrical problems, including malfunctioning infotainment systems and sensor failures, have also been noted.
Recalls for the 2017 Tahoe have addressed issues such as potential loss of power steering assist and problems with the third-row seatbelts. Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the durability of the AFM system and the potential for premature wear on the transmission. It's important to check the vehicle's recall history and maintenance records before purchasing a used model. Some owners have opted to disable the AFM system to mitigate potential oil consumption issues. Suspension problems, particularly with the magnetic ride control system on the Premier trim, have also been reported as long-term concerns. Furthermore, keep an eye on the condition of the air conditioning system, as some owners have experienced failures.

How long will the 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe last?

With proper maintenance, a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe can realistically provide 200,000 miles or more of service. This translates to roughly 13-15 years, considering an average of 15,000 miles driven per year.
Long-term durability largely depends on consistent maintenance, including regular oil changes, transmission fluid flushes, and addressing any mechanical issues promptly. Weaknesses over time often include the AFM system, which can lead to oil consumption, and potential suspension component wear, particularly in models equipped with the magnetic ride control. Proper care and preventative maintenance are crucial for maximizing the Tahoe's lifespan.

Bought car semi used 2017 Tahoe after a year A/C condenser went out, few months after seat started moving while I was driving NOT SAFE ( this could of caused an accident) Than later I felt Vibration on the motor I was told it was motor mounts that had to be replaced when I’ve only owned this vehicle over a year ago. Now the transmission feels is slipping and was told that I went over my mileage by (2k ) total of 77k and will not be responsible. I’ve owned this car for a 1 year and 8 Months and has given me a lot of problems. Not reliable at all.

Factors affecting resale value include mileage, condition, accident history, and the presence of desirable options such as the 6.2L V8 engine and advanced safety features.

2017 Chevrolet Tahoe Cost of Ownership

2017 Chevrolet Tahoe Insurance

Insurance for a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Wagon with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe Compare to Other Wagon?

The 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe competes with the Ford Expedition, Toyota Sequoia, and GMC Yukon.
Performance: The Tahoe and Yukon offer similar performance due to shared platforms. The Expedition boasts a more modern turbocharged engine, providing comparable power with potentially better fuel economy. The Sequoia, while reliable, lags behind in terms of ride comfort and technology.
Features: The Tahoe offers a good balance of features, though the Expedition's interior and technology might be slightly more advanced. The Sequoia is generally less feature-rich.
Reliability: The Tahoe has a mixed reliability record. The Sequoia consistently ranks higher in reliability. The Expedition's turbo engine has known issues in some model years.
Price: The Tahoe's used prices are generally competitive.
Alternatives: If reliability is a top priority, the Toyota Sequoia is a strong contender. For more modern features and potentially better fuel economy, the Ford Expedition is worth considering. The GMC Yukon offers a similar experience to the Tahoe with slightly different styling and available features.

Ranks #862 SUV

Final Verdict: Is the 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe a Good Wagon?

The 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe is ideal for large families needing substantial cargo space and towing capacity. It's a good choice if you prioritize V8 power and don't mind the lower fuel economy. Whether it's worth buying depends on your needs and budget.
A used 2017 Tahoe can be a good value if you find one in good condition with a thorough maintenance history. A lower mileage LT trim can offer a balance of features and affordability. Be sure to have a mechanic inspect it for potential AFM or transmission issues before purchasing. If budget allows, the Premier trim with its added features is desirable, but be mindful of potential maintenance costs associated with the magnetic ride control.

A Nice Upgrade

I traded in my 2010 Yukon for this 2017 Tahoe two weeks ago, after wanting to upgrade for a while. I had been been looking and watching for exactly what I wanted, then a dealership had the one for sale. Overall, for the age, it was very low mileage and the interior looks virtually new. The exterior is generally in pretty great shape, with the exception of some scratches that need to be buffed and chips in the windshield that may need to be filled. This particular model came with the Luxury Package and Midnight Edition, so it has all the bells and whistles.

Will never buy a Chevrolet again

I will never purchase a Chevrolet vehicle again. My 3 year old (originally $60,000+) vehicle has paint defects that the manufacturer is refusing to fix. The paint is literally oxidizing. Through my research, I have found that this a common issue. For this to occur on a vehicle that is only three years old and in otherwise excellent condition is ridiculous. There is an obvious manufacturer defect that I am now stuck with due to no fault of my own. Chevrolet refuses to assist with the issue. May I also mention that the brakes completely failed on the vehicle also due to a manufacturing defect. I was very patient with this situation and did not complain about the hassle of having to leave the vehicle in the shop for repairs for several weeks as the vehicle was deemed unsafe to operate. I was advised not to purchase a Chevrolet vehicle by others but figured I would give it a chance as I have owned many in the past, three to be exact. I have learned my lesson and now I feel that I need to inform others of the quality of their vehicles and customer service.
