Rating: 4.49
Based on 100 Owner Reviews
Cathleen V | March 31, 2025
The 2007 Honda CR-V marked the beginning of the third generation for this popular compact SUV. It's known for its reliability and practicality. Available as a 5-door SUV, the 2007 model came in LX, EX, and EX-L trims. New pricing ranged from approximately $20,000 to $25,000. Its blend of fuel efficiency, comfortable interior, and Honda's reputation for dependability contribute to its popularity.
The Good

The 2007 Honda CR-V offers excellent reliability and fuel efficiency, appealing to practical buyers. Its comfortable ride and spacious interior provide a pleasant driving experience. The Honda brand reputation and proven track record resonate emotionally, making it a dependable and valuable choice for families.

The Bad

Some 2007 Honda CR-V owners have reported issues with the AC compressor and excessive oil consumption in later years. The rear differential noise can be a concern. The relatively basic technology features compared to newer vehicles is also a weakness. Rust can also become an issue, especially in areas with road salt.

2007 Honda CR-V: Quick Overview

  • Engine: 2.4L Inline-4 cylinder
  • Horsepower: 166 hp @ 5800 rpm
  • Fuel Economy: (City/Highway) - 20/26 mpg (FWD), 19/25 mpg (AWD)
  • 0-60 mph: Approximately 9.0 - 9.5 seconds
  • Towing Capacity: 1,500 lbs (when properly equipped)
  • Trim Levels & Features:
    • LX: Standard features include power windows and locks, air conditioning, cruise control, and a CD player.

All trims were powered by the same 2.4L engine, with variations in features largely defining the differences between the LX, EX, and EX-L models. The fuel economy figures are estimates and can vary based on driving conditions and maintenance.

What Problems Does the 2007 Honda CR-V Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2007 Honda CR-V often include issues with the air conditioning compressor failing prematurely, leading to costly repairs. Some owners have noted excessive oil consumption, particularly in higher mileage vehicles. The rear differential can develop a whining or grinding noise, indicating potential wear and requiring servicing or replacement.

Recalls for the 2007 CR-V have addressed issues such as potential problems with the fuel tank assembly and possible defects in the side marker lights. These recalls should have been addressed by previous owners, but it's advisable to check the vehicle's VIN with Honda to confirm that all applicable recall work has been completed.

Long-term reliability concerns can revolve around the aforementioned AC compressor and rear differential issues. Additionally, some owners have reported issues with the power door locks and window regulators. While the CR-V generally boasts good reliability, these potential issues should be inspected when considering a used purchase. Pre-purchase inspections by a qualified mechanic are recommended to identify any existing or potential problems.

How long will the 2007 Honda CR-V last?

With proper maintenance, a 2007 Honda CR-V can easily exceed 200,000 miles or provide 15+ years of service. Many owners report reaching 250,000 miles or more with regular servicing. Long-term durability is a strong point, but weaknesses include potential AC compressor failure, rear differential noise/wear, and increased oil consumption as mileage accumulates. Rust can become a significant issue in regions with harsh winters and road salt. Consistent oil changes, timely servicing of the transmission and differential, and addressing any issues promptly are crucial for maximizing longevity.

My 2007 CR-V has 265,000 miles and remains the best vehicle I've ever owned and my 4th CR-V. I have no intention of selling anytime soon, but if I can afford a newer one I will definitely buy it. Why change when you've had a gold mine. Vini Messina Tewksbury, MA

We bought ours used and it had been in an accident and not fixed up properly. Mechanical issues with front end suspension and drive train components needed repairs more then once. No transmission issues however. CV joints and bearings, loud squeezing from the rear suspension bushings drove us crazy. Good mechanics are so rare here in Philippines.

The car is fantastic!! We love it! It handles very well on the road and very comfortable. The navigation is very easy to understand. The room s fantastic!
Negative Owner Reviews
Sean Michael's
Sure, the engine never failed, but holy smokes, I spent xxxx near five grand to keep it running, I got it w 59k miles, thinking, it's a Honda, you can't go wrong, haaaaa, the exhaust blew out, the ac condenser went, the steering rack went, leaking, the headlights would yellow up easily, no matter what I couldn't get the thing aligned correctly, after repair after repair to the steering, I gave up, I couldn't deal with it, nobody could figure out what was wrong with it despite the extensive steering repairs, I traded it in after two years of owning it, I'll tell you one thing, Honda's have great engines, but the little parts, brakes, suspension pieces, forget about it. Terrible, never again, went back to a rav4. Xpzero regrets, buyer beware with them crvs

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2007 Honda CR-V's built-in tech is relatively basic by modern standards. Standard entertainment features include a CD player and auxiliary input jack. The EX and EX-L trims offer upgraded audio systems, and the EX-L has an optional navigation system. Driver-assistance features are limited, as this model predates widespread adoption of advanced safety tech.

Safety features include standard antilock brakes (ABS), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), and front, side, and curtain airbags.

Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) are generally positive. The 2007 CR-V received good overall ratings for frontal and side-impact protection. The IIHS awarded the CR-V a "Good" rating in the frontal offset test. While it lacks modern driver-assistance features like blind-spot monitoring or lane departure warning, its safety structure and standard safety equipment provide a decent level of protection for its era. The available AWD system also enhances stability in inclement weather.

2007 Honda CR-V Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2007 Honda CR-V ranged from approximately $20,000 to $25,000 depending on the trim level and options. Current used market prices typically range from $5,000 to $10,000, depending on condition, mileage, and location. Depreciation has been significant, as expected for a vehicle of this age. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, condition (mechanical and cosmetic), service history, and location. Models with lower mileage, a clean title, and a well-documented maintenance record command higher prices. The presence of desirable features like AWD and leather upholstery can also positively impact resale value.

2007 Honda CR-V Cost of Ownership

The 2007 Honda CR-V is generally considered economical to own. Insurance costs are typically moderate. Fuel economy is decent for its class. Maintenance costs are relatively low, thanks to Honda's reliability and readily available parts. However, potential repairs like AC compressor replacement or rear differential work can be costly. Overall, the CR-V's reliability helps keep long-term ownership costs manageable, making it a cost-effective choice compared to some rivals.

The 2007 Honda CR-V's key rivals include the Toyota RAV4, Nissan Rogue (though the Rogue was introduced later), and Subaru Forester. In terms of reliability, the CR-V and RAV4 are generally considered top performers. The CR-V offers a comfortable ride and practical interior, similar to the RAV4. The Forester provides standard AWD, which is a plus for some buyers. In terms of performance, the engines are comparable, though the RAV4 might offer slightly more power in some configurations.

Feature-wise, the CR-V is competitive for its time, but newer models offer more advanced technology. Price-wise, used CR-Vs are generally affordable, but prices vary depending on condition and mileage.

Alternatives to consider include the Toyota RAV4 for its similar reliability and practicality. The Subaru Forester is a good choice for those needing standard AWD. Depending on budget and priorities, newer models from these brands or other competitors might offer more modern features and improved fuel efficiency. The Mazda CX-5, while a newer model year, provides a more engaging driving experience.

Final Verdict: Is the 2007 Honda CR-V a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2007 Honda CR-V is an ideal choice for budget-conscious buyers seeking a reliable and practical compact SUV. It's well-suited for small families, commuters, or anyone prioritizing dependability and fuel efficiency. While it's not a performance-oriented vehicle, it offers a comfortable ride and ample cargo space.

Whether it's worth buying depends on its condition and price. A well-maintained example with a clean title and service history is generally a good value. It is recommended to get a pre-purchase inspection. The EX or EX-L trims offer desirable features like alloy wheels and a sunroof without a significant price premium. Avoid examples with obvious signs of neglect or major mechanical issues. It's best to buy used, as new models are obviously unavailable.

My 2007 CR-V has 265,000 miles and remains the best

My 2007 CR-V has 265,000 miles and remains the best vehicle I've ever owned and my 4th CR-V. I have no intention of selling anytime soon, but if I can afford a newer one I will definitely buy it. Why change when you've had a gold mine. Vini Messina Tewksbury, MA

Do your own research first.

The most unreliable car of all time

Can't go wrong with Honda

Will run for 200k miles easy! This is a great car and you cannot go wrong buying a Honda. Just know that the A/C will need to be replaced at 100k miles...every Honda...every time.

Best Car I've Ever Owned!!!

Everything about it is amazing. It has a little more road noise on the highway then I would like, but otherwise, perfect. Very roomy, great gas mileage.

13 years later and still an excellent car

I bought this car used with one previous owner who took very good care of it. The car has been reliable and great to drive. I live in the PNW so having the AWD for weather and less than ideal roads is key. I will say the car does handle more like a sedan for some people that is a major plus. I don't mind it because it is easy to drive with excellent visibility and maneuverability in town/city. However, I do sometimes miss another smaller crossover SUV I had that a more typical SUV suspension. For example, I don't drive it down on the riverbed when I used to do that w/ my other car. I imagine the CRV would be fine but I haven't tested it since it is so much more sedan-like. People are often shocked to find out the car is 13 years old, the styling of the exterior and interior have held up very well and are not too dated looking even now. Mine is an EX and not EX-L so no heated leather seats or upgraded radio, but I find the cloth seats to be very comfortable. I also like the armrests in the CRV front seats. Mine has the center-console tray that folds down which at first I thought I would not like, but I feel there is ample storage in the front that replace a typical center console. I've actually been able to move a few larger/long items easy since the console folds down. There is an AC recall on the vehicle and unfortunately mine is still all-original and was not replaced in the warranty timeline. I bought the car understanding this already and anticipate the cost so if you are buying one of these CRVs used look into this. Recently the alternator went bad and that was the first major repair since I've owned it. After reviewing the service records it actually appears to be the most major part replacement/work it has ever had to have. The battery was even original, and only died now due the alternator failure. Alternators typically last 7 years/100,000 miles and mine has 160,000 so I'm not even upset it went out. The only major appearance flaw is that the headlights have an issue with getting very yellow and cloudy which reduces the brightness. Keep up with doing headlight restoration every few years and this should be fine. I didn't realize how bad mine had become til I had them restored and wow - what a difference. Even though the car is older, if you find one that has been well maintained it is still a great buy at 150,000 miles. I bought mine with 139,000 in May 2019 and now a year later have put almost 20,000 of my own miles on it with no problem. The car has been on many long-distance trips in all kinds of climates and I frequently make a 14 hour drive to southern CA in it all the time. As far as upgrades go, I am interested in raising the suspension slightly, installing a new stereo receiver and better speakers, getting a roof rack, as well as all-weather mats to replace the cloth ones. Most things are utilitarian or design updates because the car itself is solid.
