Rating: 4.61
Based on 100 Owner Reviews
Simon A | March 31, 2025
The 2010 Honda CR-V is a compact SUV, part of the CR-V's third generation (2007-2011). Known for its reliability and practicality, it comes in LX, EX, and EX-L trims. Its popularity stems from its fuel efficiency, comfortable ride, and spacious interior. New, the 2010 CR-V ranged from approximately $21,000 to $27,000, making it an accessible and appealing choice for families and commuters.
The Good

The 2010 Honda CR-V boasts legendary Honda reliability and a comfortable ride, appealing to practical buyers. Its fuel efficiency makes it economical. Its user-friendly design and spacious interior evoke a sense of security and practicality. The CR-V provides excellent value for money and a worry-free ownership experience.

The Bad

The 2010 Honda CR-V's weaknesses include somewhat uninspired handling and a less powerful engine compared to some rivals. Some owners report issues with the air conditioning compressor and occasional paint chipping. Rust can be a concern in regions with harsh winters, so inspecting the undercarriage is recommended before buying.

What Problems Does the 2010 Honda CR-V Have?

The 2010 Honda CR-V is generally considered reliable, but some frequently reported problems exist. One common issue involves the air conditioning compressor, which can fail prematurely, leading to expensive repairs. Some owners have also reported issues with paint chipping, particularly on darker colors. Another concern, especially in colder climates, is rust. Inspecting the undercarriage for rust, especially around the suspension components and exhaust system, is crucial before purchasing a used model. There have been some recalls issued for the 2010 CR-V, mainly related to potential issues with the power window master switch that could cause a fire hazard (check the NHTSA website for specific recall information based on VIN). Long-term reliability concerns mostly revolve around normal wear and tear items like brakes, suspension components, and the aforementioned AC compressor. While the engine and transmission are typically robust, regular maintenance is key to preventing major issues. Some owners have reported minor electrical glitches, such as issues with the power door locks or the audio system, but these are not widespread. Overall, the 2010 CR-V's reliability is above average for its class, but these potential issues should be considered.

How long will the 2010 Honda CR-V last?

With diligent maintenance, a 2010 Honda CR-V can easily reach 200,000 miles or more, potentially providing 15+ years of service. Proper oil changes, timely replacement of fluids and filters, and attention to worn components significantly extend its lifespan. Long-term durability is generally strong, but weaknesses include the potential for AC compressor failure, rust in harsh climates, and wear and tear on suspension components. Neglecting maintenance drastically shortens its lifespan, increasing the risk of costly repairs to the engine and transmission.

This car meets all of my needs. It's comfortable to drive with a full view all around me. I can actually back up now! Because I can see. The sound quality for music is great and the temperature level inside the car is very comfortable.

Negative Owner Reviews
DoctorG
Standard EX model. It had no rubber mats or cargo shelf. parts are a little expensive because it is a Japanese car. Plenty of leg room for 6 foot tall person. I added $700 worth of other parts and features (rubber mats, wipers, cargo shelf, charger and air compressor, etc..). After a ceramic wax and upholstery cleaning I am almost 99% satisfied with purchase.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2010 Honda CR-V's built-in tech and entertainment features are relatively basic compared to newer vehicles. Standard across all trims is an AM/FM radio with a CD player and auxiliary input. The EX trim adds a six-speaker audio system, while the EX-L boasts a premium seven-speaker system with a subwoofer. An optional navigation system was available on the EX-L trim, providing map guidance and route planning. Driver-assistance features are limited, focusing primarily on safety. All models include Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), anti-lock brakes (ABS), and tire pressure monitoring. Side curtain airbags and front side airbags are also standard.
The 2010 CR-V lacks modern features like blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, or adaptive cruise control. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded the 2010 Honda CR-V an overall rating of four out of five stars in crash tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the CR-V a "Good" rating in frontal offset and side-impact crash tests, its highest rating. While the technology is dated by today's standards, the CR-V prioritizes essential safety features and provides a functional, if not cutting-edge, driving experience. The focus is on reliability and ease of use rather than advanced tech frills.

2010 Honda CR-V Prices and Market Value

The 2010 Honda CR-V had a starting MSRP of around $21,000 for the base LX trim and topped out around $27,000 for a fully loaded EX-L model. Current used market prices typically range from $7,000 to $12,000, depending on mileage, condition, and trim level. The CR-V holds its value relatively well due to Honda's reputation for reliability. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, condition (especially rust), service history, and the presence of desirable features like the navigation system or leather interior. Higher mileage and deferred maintenance significantly reduce the resale value.

2010 Honda CR-V Cost of Ownership

The 2010 Honda CR-V is generally economical to own. Insurance costs are typically moderate. Fuel economy is decent for its class. Routine maintenance is relatively affordable due to readily available parts and a straightforward design. While the potential for AC compressor failure can lead to a more expensive repair, overall long-term ownership costs are low compared to many other SUVs. Its reliability minimizes unexpected repairs, contributing to its cost-effectiveness.

2010 Honda CR-V Insurance

Insurance for a 2010 Honda CR-V is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2010 Honda CR-V Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2010 Honda CR-V competes with vehicles like the Toyota RAV4, Subaru Forester, and Nissan Rogue. In terms of reliability, the CR-V and RAV4 are generally considered top choices, often outperforming the Forester and Rogue. The RAV4 offers slightly more powerful engine options. The Forester provides standard all-wheel drive, appealing to buyers in snowy regions. The Rogue is typically more affordable but may not match the CR-V's long-term reliability. Feature-wise, the CR-V offers a good balance, though some rivals may offer more advanced tech in higher trims. Price-wise, the CR-V is generally competitive within its class.
Alternatives to the 2010 CR-V include the Mazda CX-7, which offers a sportier driving experience but may not be as reliable. The Hyundai Tucson provides a longer warranty but may not hold its value as well. If reliability is the top priority, the Toyota RAV4 is a similar and comparable alternative. If all-wheel drive is a must-have, the Subaru Forester is a strong contender. The CR-V stands out for its blend of reliability, practicality, and fuel efficiency, making it a solid choice in the compact SUV segment.

Final Verdict: Is the 2010 Honda CR-V a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2010 Honda CR-V is an excellent choice for buyers seeking a reliable, practical, and fuel-efficient compact SUV. It's ideal for families, commuters, and anyone prioritizing dependability. A used 2010 CR-V is worth buying if it has been well-maintained and passes a thorough inspection, especially concerning rust and AC compressor function. The EX trim offers a good balance of features and value, while the EX-L adds luxury touches if desired. Avoid models with excessive mileage or signs of neglect. If budget is a concern, the LX is still a solid choice. Overall, the 2010 CR-V provides a sensible and dependable ownership experience.

We have owned our CRV for close to 10 years now.

We have owned our CRV for close to 10 years now. From 65k miles to 192k. The A/c went out years ago and no problem since fixing it. Replaced the alternator at maybe 160k. That's it. They are not fast. We get about 23mpg combined. It's the best car we have ever owned as far as reliability and function. Comfortable with a large trunk. Some may start to consume a little oil, just add a bottle of ring seal once or twice a year. Great car

I loved this car but it was a lemon car.

I loved this car but it was a lemon car. Drove great but constantly needed repairs every few months and it broke down on me without warning. Lots of storage and can easily fit into smaller parking spaces. Fairly good gas mileage. Backseats are kind of stiff and uncomfortable. Acceleration is a little slow but is good at staying a consistent speed when driving fast. I would recommend this SUV if it is in good condition.

Flawless vehicle

This is a superb vehicle, even after many kms of driving. It should last many years with normal maintenance. It has no flaws that I'm aware of.

Love this SUV!

Just bought one used. It is everything I hoped it would be. I had looked for one with limited trim; I like just the basics. The more computerized and techy a vehicle is, the more that can go wrong... My dealer found the perfect one for me. If I had to critique anything, it would be that the visibility from the rear could be a little better. I had an older RAV4 that had a lot more all-around visibility, but so far, that is the only thing and it's not even a big deal. Mine has fabric seats, just like I wanted. I'm not a fan of leather. This SUV does really good on gas too. I like it better than my RAV.

WORTH THE MONEY

Got mine cheap and it brings me less worries when wintee comes. I stick with the all season radials which can be very expensive but the peace of mind I get is worth it.

Best car I ever owned

This car meets all of my needs. It's comfortable to drive with a full view all around me. I can actually back up now! Because I can see. The sound quality for music is great and the temperature level inside the car is very comfortable.

Not My First Choice

Standard EX model. It had no rubber mats or cargo shelf. parts are a little expensive because it is a Japanese car. Plenty of leg room for 6 foot tall person. I added $700 worth of other parts and features (rubber mats, wipers, cargo shelf, charger and air compressor, etc..). After a ceramic wax and upholstery cleaning I am almost 99% satisfied with purchase.

Reliable vehicle for the year

I actually really like it. Very spacious and had multiple USB ports. I love the sunroof. The back is big enough to have my dogs when we go for hikes. Love the leather seats and interior.
