Rating: 4.79
Based on 100 Owner Reviews
Drew B | March 31, 2025
The Honda CR-V, a compact SUV, has been a popular choice for decades. The 2020 model year continues its legacy. Its body style is a versatile SUV, and while model years vary, the CR-V consistently offers a blend of practicality and reliability. Key trims typically include LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring. The pricing range generally falls between $25,000 and $35,000 depending on trim and options. The CR-V stands out for its fuel efficiency, spacious interior, and reputation for long-term reliability.
The Good

The 2020 Honda CR-V boasts excellent reliability and fuel efficiency, appealing to practical buyers. Its comfortable ride and spacious interior provide a pleasant driving experience. While not a performance vehicle, it offers adequate power for daily driving. The CR-V's reputation for holding its value makes it a smart long-term investment. The well-designed interior and exterior also contribute to its appeal.

The Bad

The 2020 Honda CR-V's infotainment system can be slow and unintuitive for some users. The engine, while efficient, might feel underpowered when fully loaded or on steep inclines. Some owners have reported issues with the climate control system. Be sure to check for these potential problems during a pre-purchase inspection. The continuously variable transmission (CVT) can sometimes exhibit droning sounds.

What Problems Does the 2020 Honda CR-V Have?

The 2020 Honda CR-V generally enjoys good reliability, but some frequently reported problems include issues with the infotainment system, such as slow response times and glitches. Some owners have also reported concerns about the climate control system, particularly with the air conditioning performance. There have been reports regarding the fuel injectors, leading to fuel dilution in the oil. While not extremely widespread, this is a concern to monitor.

Recalls for the 2020 CR-V are relatively limited, but it's crucial to check the NHTSA website for any active recalls related to specific VINs. Long-term reliability concerns are primarily related to the CVT transmission. While Honda's CVTs are generally reliable, proper maintenance is crucial to prevent issues. Regular fluid changes are essential. Furthermore, some owners have reported issues with the direct injection engine and carbon buildup over time. Using high-quality fuel and performing regular maintenance can help mitigate this risk. It's worth noting that earlier model years of the CR-V (prior to 2017) had some more significant issues related to the fuel system, but the 2020 model is generally considered more refined and reliable.

How long will the 2020 Honda CR-V last?

With proper maintenance, a 2020 Honda CR-V can easily reach 200,000 miles or more, providing 10-15 years of service. Regular oil changes, tire rotations, and timely replacement of wear items are essential. Long-term durability is generally excellent, but potential weaknesses include the CVT transmission, which requires fluid changes every 30,000-60,000 miles, depending on driving conditions. Engine carbon buildup, a common issue with direct injection engines, can be mitigated with high-quality fuel and regular maintenance. The infotainment system may also show its age over time, becoming slower and less responsive.

I bought the 2020 CR-V new in July 2020 and as of December 2024, have 39K miles on it. I have taken it to the dealer for regular maintenance. It has been trouble-free and drives very well. If I have one complaint, it's the glitchy infotainment system. I have had to do a factory reset on the infotainment system twice. Otherwise, a wonderful vehicle.

We own 2 2020 Honda CRV EX-L and cannot be happier. We both love all the features that came with them. If you want to buy a Honda CRV around this time frame, had another one a 2019, traded it for the 2020 which had lower mileage and a color we really wanted. If buying one, go for the EX-L, well worth the little more money for what you get. Those that write negative reviews about this car...well I just don't get it. Maybe got a bad one and dealer not any good in helping them. We had some very minor issues with ours but Bianchi Honda Of Erie PA took care of everything and no hassle. As far as the electronics and main control screen, it can be a little bit of a nightmare if one is not electronically inclined. But our dealer Bianchi Honda Of Erie PA gave a thorough explanation of the basics. I figured out the rest myself by reading the manual and watching the many videos available by Honda on the many other features. All the cars we got were Preowned Certified and looked brand new.

I purchased a 2020 CRV touring and have had issues with the Lane Keeping Assist. The steering wheels pulls me to the center line and around corners will cross over the line and then the Lane departure warning light comes on. Honda states it works perfectly however after leaving the dealership I was able to duplicate the error twice before I made it home. I have filed a complaint with the NTSB and they seemed more concerned the Honda. Also I have had some small issues and Honda refused a warranty claim. Stated it was normal wear and tear on items that were not working of course I can pay for them. My last Honda was a 2010 Accord V6 that had engine oil consumption issues that they also denied existed. Honda's used to be good cars but they can sell them to someone else I am done wasting my money.
Robert
This car is super slow when compared to the competition. Passing is near impossible. The gas pedal would be all the way down and it would take 10 to 15 seconds to get accelerating.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2020 Honda CR-V comes equipped with a range of built-in tech and safety features. Standard on all trims is the Honda Sensing suite, which includes adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and road departure mitigation. Higher trims offer blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. The infotainment system, starting with the EX trim, features a 7-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Navigation is available on the Touring trim, along with a premium audio system and wireless phone charging.

Entertainment features include Bluetooth connectivity and USB ports. Optional features include a power liftgate and a hands-free power liftgate. The 2020 Honda CR-V received excellent crash-test ratings from both the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety). The IIHS awarded it a Top Safety Pick+ rating, indicating superior performance in crash tests and advanced safety technology.

2020 Honda CR-V Prices and Market Value

As of late 2024, used market prices generally range from $18,000 to $28,000, depending on mileage, condition, and trim. The CR-V holds its value relatively well due to its reputation for reliability and strong demand. 2020 Honda CR-V Insurance

Insurance for a 2020 Honda CR-V is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2020 Honda CR-V Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2020 Honda CR-V competes with the Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5, Nissan Rogue, and Subaru Forester. The RAV4 is a strong competitor, offering similar reliability and fuel economy, but the CR-V often has a more comfortable ride. The Mazda CX-5 provides a more engaging driving experience but may not be as spacious. The Nissan Rogue offers a stylish interior but has a less established reliability record.

The Subaru Forester boasts standard all-wheel drive and excellent safety features, making it a good alternative for those prioritizing these aspects. In terms of reliability, the CR-V and RAV4 are generally considered top choices. The CR-V often wins in terms of interior space and cargo capacity. Price-wise, the CR-V is generally competitive within its class. If prioritizing driving dynamics, the Mazda CX-5 is a better option. For standard AWD and a focus on safety, the Subaru Forester is a worthy consideration. The Toyota RAV4 is a similar and very competitive alternative overall.

The EX or EX-L trims offer a good balance of features and value. While the Touring trim provides more luxury, the lower trims often provide sufficient features for most buyers. Avoid models with a history of neglect or accidents. Always obtain a pre-purchase inspection from a trusted mechanic.

Mixed review

The mechanics and safety features of the car are great.,However, the computer system is incomprehensible and NOT user friendly. It's impossible to do the slightest thing without layers of buttons to click. Nothing is intuitive and the computer is flaky. Simple things like the radio and GPS frequently don't work. Horrible, exasperating computer.I will not buy another Honda for that reason.

The Honda I expected.

Just got one with 15,000 miles on it. In pristine condition. Still learning all the features since I never owned a car with so much tech. Once I learn one at a time, I found many of the features very useful. Over quality of build for the vehicle meets all my past expectations of past Honda vehicles. Don't understand the negative remarks about acceleration. If I have to get out of situation fast, which I had to, vehicle responded immediately and to my surprise much faster than expected. I have to keep in mind when driving it, speed can getaway with you if not driving properly, very quick for me on acceleration. Only negatives I have is: For a high quality vehicle it has no back up sensors, just a camera. It does have guidelines on the camera. I guess once I practice with the guidelines more, I will be able to see and not need back up sensors. The other item not happy with is the center console storage. You have to slide two panels to see all that is in the compartment, since the lower compartment is so long for plenty of storage. Just one long long panel would be great. Also, the flip up center armrest in the front would be great if it had an inner compartment on the arm rest. For me it is a very comfortable and relaxing vehicle to drive. I notice I do not get as tired on long trips in this car, compared to my previous. It has excellent storage, plenty for my needs. History will tell if Honda downgraded on things compared to the past. I got the remaining factory bumper to bumper warranty (Certified) along with the top of line extended maintenance for 10 years/100,000 miles. So feel pretty comfortable about future repairs since I will only be responsible for regular maintenance and normal wear and tear parts. Overall....REALLY HAPPY! On top of that I am dealing with a fantastic dealer, BIANCHI HONDA OF ERE. From the salesman, used car manager, finance department and service, they have been great, friendly people to deal with. Late Note: We also own the 2019 CRV, along with 2020, Both are EX-L version. Had the 2019 longer, also a fantastic vehicle.

I'm in love….

Love sitting higher without having to drive a full size SUV. My gas mileage is great with Econ mode option. So much room for two car seats and a third (smaller) person in the backseat. Drives like a dream with pep when you need it. I'm still in the honeymoon phase but this is the nicest Honda I've ever owned and I've owned two Accords, two Civics and an HR-V. I rode in the back seat of a friend's CR-V and I've wanted one ever since.

Sporty. Consistent. Reliable. Comfortable.

Love my CR-V. It's reliable and haven't had a single issue (43,500 miles as of this morning). It's surprisingly agile and accelerates quickly. It also has far exceeded my expectations for gas mileage (About 23mpg for me). It drives very much like a sedan but is very spacious, has excellent visibility and handles very well in all road and weather conditions. It's also a pretty sleek and sporty looking vehichle on the exterior and the interior is very spacious and comfortable. My only (minor) complaint is the Apple CarPlay glitches frequently and the navigation/audio system is a little bit sluggish to respond. Overall though, it's my favourite Honda to date and I am so happy with the CR-V.

Snowflake Deluxe

Honda CR-V: Thy name is Vanilla. Soulless transportation module. Lawn tractors are quicker until the turbo kicks in. Hate is not a strong enough word for my feelings about the CVT. MPG is 30, on par with my 2003 Monte Carlo. Seats are passable, but not really built for Americans. Touchscreen and radio already malfunctioning at 16,000 miles. Great for hauling plants from Lowe's and bulk items from Costco. Decent highway ride but can be noisy. Nice styling, though. One amazing thing: Highly stable and can corner at speeds that blow other vehicles away. But it is still better than the new Pilot.

2020 HONDA CR-V TURBO MYTH

I own a 2020 Honda Cr-v LX with the 1.4 turbo engine. I hate that Honda has the turb engine. I regret replacing my 2018 Honda CR-V with the 2.4 VTEC for this underpowered Cr-v. They claim it has more power and is better on gas. It gets the same gas as my 2018 VTEC and has less power. I also hate the Auto Engine Idle. Its annoying to have to turn it off everytime I get in the car. I will not buy another newer CR-V. Honda needs to get rid of the turbo and stick with the VTEC. the AEI is just as horrible and I refuse to buy another Honda that has either feature. First chance i get to trade this in, I am.

value for the money is not worthy! Sensor issues!

Hi! My favorite cars was rav4 but I decided to change for a CRVHonda 2020. I like it plenty of room, several USB ports. A thing that I don't like about this model is the front sensor. It's not really sealed or bond that it has been stolen and a very expensive item to buy and getting installed. From $870 to $1170 to install. I think this model is not a good investment. Honda has failed on this Model crv 2020.you will spend more money installing this sensor than the usual car.👎👎👎dissatisfied!!!
