What Problems Does the 2004 Nissan Sentra Have?
Automatic transmission problems, such as slipping or rough shifting, have been reported, especially in higher-mileage vehicles. Regular transmission fluid changes can help mitigate this risk. Some owners have experienced issues with the mass airflow sensor (MAF), which can cause poor engine performance.
Recalls for the 2004 Nissan Sentra have addressed issues like potential fuel leaks due to faulty fuel pump brackets. It's crucial to check the vehicle's VIN for any outstanding recalls before purchasing. Long-term reliability concerns revolve around the longevity of the automatic transmission and the potential for rust. The 2.5L engine in the SE-R models, while offering more power, has been known to consume oil at a higher rate than the 2.0L engine.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features included standard front airbags. Side-impact airbags were optional on some trims. Anti-lock brakes (ABS) were optional on most trims and standard on the SE-R models. There were no electronic stability control systems available.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) vary. The 2004 Sentra generally received decent ratings for frontal and side-impact protection, but these ratings should be verified on the NHTSA website for specific configurations. IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) ratings are also available and provide further insight into the vehicle's crashworthiness.
Overall, the 2004 Sentra focused on providing essential features at an affordable price point, with limited emphasis on advanced technology or driver-assistance systems compared to modern vehicles. Optional features could enhance safety, but many contemporary tech features were absent.

How Does the 2004 Nissan Sentra Compare to Other Sedan?
For performance, the SE-R trims gave the Sentra a competitive edge against base models of its rivals, but the sporty trims of the Civic (Si) and Mazda 3 (Mazdaspeed3 - later years) offered superior performance overall. If reliability and affordability are paramount, the Toyota Corolla is a strong alternative. If driving enjoyment is a higher priority, the Honda Civic or Mazda 3 might be better choices. The Sentra SE-R offers a decent balance of sportiness and value for those on a budget but comes with potential oil consumption concerns.

Very Reliable Car If Taken Care Of..My 2004 Nissan Sentra S1.8.. Bought this Car with 157,000 miles.. At 1st this Car was Amazing. It was like driving A little Sport Car. Everywhere I go it turn heads. Good Handling, When I hit the Gas pedal it Goes This Car Hates to Be stuck in Traffic, Very Zippy. 5 to 6 months later I had to do A lot of Repair Work. Parts are Easy to get. Mechanic Said Car will Run for a long time. My Sentra Seen Mechanic Shops Every other 3 Months. It Never Let me and Family down. Always Start any Weather. Took the Car 162,000 + miles. Then I noticed Suspension was wearing, Slow Oil leak. Then transmission was Slow to get in right gear. At Red lights & Traffic felt like it wanted to shut off Never did. This Car Uses Oil like Crazy. Need Regular Repairs was Needed. It was time to let it go.. I will miss my Nissan..

Get what you pay forHaven’t had many problems in the year I’ve had my 1.8L. The interior has lots of great features, but everything feels cheap. The seats stain easily, and pretty much all of the plastic cubbies are broken. Otherwise, not a bad car.

Faithful Sentra 146K mi.Well, it has good performance for it's class. The seats are comfy for it's class. the interior is well designed with an overhead compartment for your sunglasses that is so handy I am surprised it's not in every car. MPG is very good. Maintenance is very low, much lower than my Hondas. Handling is average. Feel of controls and interior is very good for the class. Only interior problem is gas pedal is a little awkward. I didn't get cruise control as the upgrade package that contained it was pricey for the content and the only good thing in it was the cruise control. Caveat: this is a 2004, I was given a late model rental at the air port and it kinda sucked.(2015) The motor was more noisy, the car was slower, handling worse and steering feel worse. So the reputation for reliability is good but, if buying a newer model take a long test drive, make sure you like the feel

Nissans Most Reliable Cars Over 100k mileageThis vehicle is superior in terms of performance with over 100k miles on it. The car drives as if it was a sports car on the highway. I'm very surprised with this vehicle. The price seems reasonable taking in factor age and mileage.
