The Nissan Sentra, a compact sedan with a long history dating back to the early 1980s, received a significant redesign in 2020. The 2022 model continues this generation. Key trims include S, SV, and SR. Its popularity stems from its stylish design, comfortable interior, and a focus on value. Pricing generally ranges from around $20,000 to $24,000. The Sentra stands out with its premium-feeling interior and ample standard safety features.
The Good

The 2022 Nissan Sentra offers a blend of practicality and style. Its advantages include a comfortable ride, attractive design, and good fuel efficiency. For the practical buyer, it's reliable and affordable. For the emotional buyer, the stylish exterior and premium interior offer a satisfying experience. It provides excellent value for its price point.

The Bad

The 2022 Nissan Sentra's weaknesses include somewhat underwhelming acceleration compared to some rivals. The continuously variable transmission (CVT), while improved, might not appeal to all drivers. Road noise can be noticeable at higher speeds. Watch out for potential CVT issues in the long term, though improvements have been made over previous generations.

What Problems Does the 2022 Nissan Sentra Have?

The 2022 Nissan Sentra, while generally reliable, has had some reported issues. One of the primary concerns revolves around the continuously variable transmission (CVT). While Nissan has made improvements to its CVTs, some owners still report issues like shuddering, hesitation, or premature failure. It's crucial to adhere to the recommended CVT fluid change intervals to mitigate potential problems. Other potential issues include electrical system glitches, particularly with the infotainment system, and occasional reports of sensor malfunctions. Recalls are relatively infrequent, but it's essential to check the NHTSA website for any active recalls related to the 2022 model year. Long-term reliability hinges heavily on proper maintenance. Owners who diligently follow the recommended service schedule, especially regarding CVT fluid changes, tend to experience fewer issues. Earlier model years of this generation (2020-2021) had more prevalent reports of CVT issues, suggesting that Nissan has addressed some concerns in the 2022 model, but careful monitoring and preventative maintenance remain essential.

How long will the 2022 Nissan Sentra last?

With regular maintenance, a 2022 Nissan Sentra can reasonably be expected to last for 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-13 years. Proper maintenance, particularly consistent CVT fluid changes, is crucial for longevity. The CVT is the potential long-term weakness. Ignoring maintenance can significantly shorten its lifespan. Other components, like the engine and other mechanical parts, are generally durable. Rust can become a concern in regions with harsh winters and road salt, so regular washing and undercarriage cleaning are recommended.

The safety buzzing in the steering wheel took some getting used to but I love it now. It is a sporty car with a luxury feel. It is a very smooth ride and I love it. The cabin is very large and comfortable and will fit a tall man as well. It has a light package that detects when you need to put on your brights. Its is very quiet and drives well in snow conditions.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2022 Nissan Sentra boasts a respectable suite of tech, entertainment, driver-assistance, and safety features. Standard tech includes a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system (8-inch on SV and SR), Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth connectivity. Higher trims offer features like a Bose premium audio system and NissanConnect services.

Driver-assistance features are a strong point, with standard automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and high beam assist across all trims. Adaptive cruise control is standard on the SV and SR.

Safety features include multiple airbags, anti-lock brakes, and electronic stability control. The 2022 Sentra received good crash-test ratings from both the NHTSA and IIHS. The IIHS awarded it a "Top Safety Pick". Optional features include a surround-view monitor and intelligent driver alertness. The user interface is generally intuitive, although some may find the base model's 7-inch screen a bit small. Overall, the Sentra provides a comprehensive package of safety and technology for its class.

Feature-wise, the Sentra offers a competitive array of standard safety features, often exceeding what's standard on the Corolla at the base level. Great car to drive daily and safe in a crash.

Great car for commuting. Have high safety scores which I tested on March 30th. I was hit from behind at 50mph and I walked away. My 2022 Monarch Orange/Black Sentra SR was shortened by 3 feet front and back. I just bought a 2023 Gun metal/Black SR Premium to replace the 2022. Best small car I driven to date.

2022 Nissan Sentra, best value for the money

First things first, I bought this for fuel economy, not power, so I knew going into it that the 4 cyl wouldn't have the power of a V6 and I'm 100% OK with that. So I drive 55 miles one way to work every day and I have been averaging approximately 36.7 mpg. I enjoy the car overall. It's amazingly comfortable with all the bells and whistles of any luxury car with the SR Premium package, but I also did all the research to find what I wanted in a car and looked specifically for VALUE overall. My only complaint is that the caramel brown interior option isn't available on the higher end models. I've always had black interiors and would have loved to have a brown instead. Overall, for the money, the Sentra is exceptional value. I specifically wanted a car without turbo etc. Reliability was high on my list, and extra parts to worry about and maintain was not on my list. Having AndroidAuto, heated seats and heated steering wheel have come in handy. The looks of the orange with black top has turned so many heads and it makes me happy to hear that people appreciate such a different color. Hands down Nissan of Greer, and Mike Harley in particular, have made the process amazingly simple and easy. I can't thank all the guys at the dealership enough. If you want the best value for the money, I truly feel it is hard to beat the B18 Sentras.

Praise for my 2022 Sentra

I couldn't be happier with my 2022 Nissan Sentra SV. I'm leasing this vehicle and it continues to impress. The advanced safety features are a reevaluation...they make you more alert and involved in the driving experience. Fuel economy is very impressive... I have a long work commute and I'm seeing approx 40 mpg highway. Comfort is excellent and the face l operation and handling are great... very fun car to drive. Finally I love the styling ... a premium looking sedan at a very attractive price... aces the value question.

Great Value

This was one of those purchases that has exceeded my expectations. The Sentra is not a high end vehicle but I find ergonomically that it fits me better than any other car I have owned. It is comfortable to drive, handles well, it is not a performance car but it is peppy enough and delivers good fuel economy, No problems and quality of fit and finish seem top rate.
