What Problems Does the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee often revolve around its electrical and infotainment systems. Some owners have reported issues with the Uconnect system freezing, glitching, or failing to connect to devices. There have also been complaints about the vehicle's keyless entry system and other electrical components. Transmission issues, though less frequent, have also surfaced in some reports.

Recalls for the 2019 model year have addressed issues ranging from potential rollaway risks to problems with the rearview camera display. These recalls are important to check and ensure have been addressed if considering purchasing a used 2019 Grand Cherokee. Long-term reliability concerns generally focus on the complexity of the vehicle's electronics and the potential for increased maintenance costs as the vehicle ages.

While the 2019 model year is generally considered more reliable than some earlier years of this generation, it's still prudent to review vehicle history reports and pre-purchase inspections to identify any potential issues or maintenance needs. Checking for completed recall repairs is also crucial for ensuring the vehicle's safety and performance.

How long will the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee last?

With proper maintenance, a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee can realistically provide 150,000 to 200,000 miles of service, potentially lasting 10-15 years for average drivers. Consistent oil changes, timely servicing of the transmission, and addressing cooling system issues are crucial for longevity. Weaknesses often emerge in the electrical system, as mentioned earlier, and suspension components may require attention over time, especially for vehicles frequently used off-road. Regular maintenance is key to mitigating these issues and extending the vehicle's lifespan.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee features a user-friendly Uconnect infotainment system with available 7-inch or 8.4-inch touchscreens. Standard tech includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Entertainment options include premium audio systems from Alpine or Harman Kardon.

Driver-assistance features varied by trim. Available features included adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-path detection, lane departure warning, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and parking assist. Lower trims had fewer of these features standard, but they were often available as options.

Safety features included standard airbags, anti-lock brakes, and stability control. The 2019 Grand Cherokee generally received good crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), though ratings could vary slightly depending on the specific configuration and testing year. It is always best to consult the IIHS and NHTSA websites for the most up-to-date and accurate crash test data.

2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Insurance

Insurance for a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Wagon with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Compare to Other Wagon?

The 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee competes with the Ford Explorer, Toyota 4Runner, Honda Passport, and Nissan Murano. Compared to the Explorer, the Grand Cherokee offers a more upscale interior and superior off-road capabilities. The 4Runner is more reliable but less refined on-road. The Passport offers a more spacious interior, while the Murano prioritizes comfort and fuel economy.

In terms of performance, the Grand Cherokee's V8 options surpass most rivals, except for high-performance variants of the Explorer. Feature-wise, it's competitive, but some rivals offer more advanced driver-assistance systems as standard. Reliability is where the Grand Cherokee lags behind the Toyota and Honda options. Price-wise, it sits in the middle of the pack.

Alternatives to consider include the Toyota 4Runner (for reliability), the Ford Explorer (for interior space and modern features), and the Honda Passport (for a balanced blend of practicality and comfort). If off-road capability isn't a priority, the Nissan Murano offers a more comfortable and fuel-efficient option.

Ranks #1298 SUV

Final Verdict: Is the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee a Good Wagon?

The 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee is ideal for buyers seeking a versatile SUV with a blend of on-road comfort, off-road capability (especially with 4x4), and available V8 power. It's worth buying used if you find a well-maintained example with a clean vehicle history. Consider the Limited or Overland trims for a balance of features and value. Be mindful of potential reliability concerns and prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection. The Trackhawk is a unique performance SUV, but comes with significantly higher running costs. If reliability is your top priority, alternatives like the Toyota 4Runner might be a better choice.

The 2019 Grand Cherokee Limited was the Jeep I had my eye

The 2019 Grand Cherokee Limited was the Jeep I had my eye on for a while. I've owned a 2012 Laredo X, and a 2018 Limited Anniversary/Heritage Edition. I was specifically looking for Limited trim without the 20" rims, although, I love the look of the Altitude versions, I just didn't really care/want to deal with less side-wall, nicer-looking rims. I avoided the Overland and Trailhawk because of the air-suspension. Overall the interior is fine, it's comfortable and familiar for me, since I've owned them before, but that's also the only issue/complaint I would have. The interior is updated from the 2012, however, basically it's a very light update, U-Connect, Gauges, Shifter, and possibly a few other items here and there. But essentially, the dashboard is the same dashboard I've seen since 2012. While owning the previous (2) I never experienced any mechanical issues that left me stranded. One had a weird issue with blowing lights in the tailgate, but it would just randomly decide to burn out, replace one it would blow another. No other major issues. The 2019 leather on the steering wheel feels smooth and buttery like they always have. The suspension feels great, still solid and tight. Brakes are strong and grippy, pedal feel is nice and firm. So far I'm super satisfied with this Jeep, I got the perfect combination of all the features I wanted, Memory Seats, Sunroof, power trunk, heated-seats and wheel. Not sure if I'd be willing to sell this one and get a newer model, but, I'd possibly get another WK2.

We love our new Jeep

This is the 3rd Jeep product we have owned over the years, first was a Grand Cherokee Laredo, then most recently a 2012 Jeep Liberty Sport. We just purchased the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd in Febrary 2023. This Jeep is the most luxuary we've ever had in a vehicle, it has everything but the cooling seats which would be nice as we live in FL. This will be a dinghy towed vehicle behind our Class A motorhome. We also towed the Liberty Sport.

Love my jeep

The turning radius is the best for the size of this suv. The brakes are quick to respond. The 4x4 is a must. The only downside is that they aren't all standard with a trailer hitch. Love the sunroof, the all leather interior.

Not your typical Chrysler product.

Comfort and attention to detail is outstanding. Fuel mileage is fair and the only minor issue was the steering wheel was about 4 degrees from center.

A great looking SUV for the money. Performance, reliability and styling all in one. I'm on my 7th Jeep and this Grand Cherokee Summit beats all the luxury brands I've owned hands down.
