The Jeep Grand Cherokee, a staple in the SUV market since its debut in the 1990s, continues its legacy with the 2023 model year. This mid-size SUV offers a blend of luxury, capability, and practicality. Available in both two-row and three-row (Grand Cherokee L) configurations, key trims include Laredo, Limited, Overland, and Summit. Pricing ranges from approximately $40,000 to $70,000+, depending on the trim and options. Its popularity stems from its rugged yet refined nature, offering off-road prowess combined with a comfortable and well-appointed interior.
The Good

The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers a compelling mix of advantages. Practically, it provides strong performance with multiple engine options, a comfortable ride, and a stylish design. Emotionally, it appeals with its Jeep heritage, off-road capability, and luxurious cabin options. The value proposition lies in its blend of features and capabilities, though long-term reliability is a point to consider.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee include its fuel economy, which can be low, especially with the V8 engine. What Problems Does the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee can vary, but some common concerns include issues with the Uconnect infotainment system, such as glitches, slow response times, and connectivity problems. Electrical issues, including sensor malfunctions and battery drain, have also been reported by some owners. Transmission problems, such as rough shifting or hesitation, have surfaced in some cases, though they don't appear to be widespread.

Recalls can occur for various reasons, and it's crucial to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any active recalls related to the 2023 Grand Cherokee. These recalls often address safety-related defects.

Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the complexity of the vehicle's systems. The 4xe plug-in hybrid model, in particular, has more components that could potentially fail over time. Historically, certain Jeep models have faced concerns regarding their long-term reliability, so it's advisable to research owner reviews and reliability ratings from sources like Consumer Reports and J.D. Power before making a purchase. Maintenance and driving habits significantly impact the vehicle's longevity. Staying on top of scheduled maintenance and addressing issues promptly can help mitigate potential problems.

How long will the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee last?

With proper maintenance, a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee can reasonably be expected to last for 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-15 years. This is heavily dependent on consistent maintenance, including regular oil changes, fluid checks, and timely repairs. Long-term durability can be affected by the vehicle's complex electronics and potential for electrical issues. Weaknesses may appear in the infotainment system, air suspension (if equipped), and drivetrain components over time. Addressing these proactively will maximize the vehicle's lifespan. Careful driving habits also contribute significantly to longevity.

This is my second Grand Cherokee. I loved my 2019 so I thought it could only get better. I was wrong. The center control console has been problematic since I got the car. It's been replaced and it still shuts off when it feels like it. The dealer was not helpful and Stelantis was even less helpful. The car was 30 days old and I had a blank screen for weeks at a time. There were also 2 other recalls. The dealer acted like they were doing me a favor fixing it. This car will be traded in the next 3 months......I can't wait.

New Jeep GC owner…about a month in. Bought a ‘23 Grand Cherokee Summit after admiring the looks of it. Was nervous to purchase because I usually drive foreign. I also own a ‘22 Audi and have to say that the quality of my Jeep is comparable. I am pleasantly surprised by the drive as well as the quality of the finishes. The ride is quiet and smooth. The 6 cylinder has plenty of pep and has no trouble getting down the highway. It even has a bit of a growl when you step down on it. I legit smile every time I drive my Jeep.
dallasguy214
I travel alot and rent a lot of cars so i review for possible purchasers. I give the grand cherokee a 8 out of 10. Truck feels very confident and rides well. Id consider purchasing one if it wasnt for one thing…. This car is WAY to heavy for a natrually aspirated V6! The 3.6 is very sluggish and cannot get out of its own way. They need to put a twin turbo in it. Otherwise i would have rated it a 10. Other than slow get up and go… its a winner.
Negative Owner Reviews

The tires are too cheap engine covers from the bottom are so bad and always clips fall and the the holes in the fabric ripped I just drove it 40,000 miles not as reliable as the 2016 the hood doesn't fit too well in this spot on the highways

2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee's MSRP ranged from approximately $40,000 for the base Laredo trim to over $70,000 for the top-tier Summit and 4xe models. Current used market prices vary depending on condition, mileage, and trim, but generally range from the low $30,000s to the high $60,000s. Depreciation is influenced by factors such as mileage, condition, trim level, and market demand. Lower trims and higher mileage examples will depreciate more rapidly. Resale value is typically better for well-maintained vehicles with desirable features like the V8 engine or 4xe powertrain. Limited production models or those with specific option packages may hold their value better.

2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Cost of Ownership

The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee can be moderately costly to own long-term. Insurance costs are average for its class. Fuel costs can be significant, especially with the V8 engine. Maintenance, including scheduled services and potential repairs, can add up, particularly for the more complex 4xe model. Repair costs can be higher than average due to the vehicle's sophisticated systems. Overall, while not the most economical choice, the Grand Cherokee offers a compelling blend of features and capabilities that may justify the higher ownership costs for some buyers.

2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Insurance

Insurance for a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee competes with other mid-size SUVs like the Toyota 4Runner, Ford Explorer, Honda Passport, and Kia Telluride.

Performance: The Grand Cherokee offers a broader range of engine options than some rivals, including a plug-in hybrid. The 4Runner is known for its off-road prowess, while the Explorer offers a sporty ST variant.

Features: The Grand Cherokee boasts a luxurious interior and advanced technology, often surpassing the 4Runner in terms of refinement. The Telluride offers similar features at a more competitive price point. The Honda Passport provides a comfortable and spacious interior.

Reliability: The Toyota 4Runner is renowned for its reliability, often outperforming the Grand Cherokee in long-term dependability. The Kia Telluride has also gained a reputation for reliability.

Price: The Grand Cherokee's price range is competitive but can be higher than the Telluride. The 4Runner tends to hold its value well, offsetting some of its higher initial cost.

Alternatives: If reliability is a top priority, the Toyota 4Runner is a solid alternative. If value for money and family-friendly features are key, the Kia Telluride is a strong contender. The Ford Explorer offers a sporty driving experience. The Honda Passport is a good all-around option. Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual priorities and needs.

Final Verdict: Is the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee is ideal for buyers seeking a blend of luxury, capability, and technology in a mid-size SUV. It's particularly well-suited for those who appreciate Jeep's heritage and off-road potential. Whether it's worth buying depends on individual priorities. A used model might offer better value, especially if reliability concerns are a factor. Specific trims like the Limited or Overland offer a good balance of features and price. Consider the 4xe if fuel efficiency is a priority, but be mindful of potentially higher maintenance costs. Ultimately, thorough research and a test drive are crucial before making a decision.

I have had nothing but trouble with this car.

I have had nothing but trouble with this car. The two batteries died. The computer screen keeps dying on me. This is my third jeep and I loved my first two. The 2023 is terrible.

Natural upgrade choice

Runs smooth. Very comfortable. Always loved the Jeep brand so this was a natural upgrade. Love the options too. The adaptive cruise control is amazing.

Newer is not better

This is my second Grand Cherokee. I loved my 2019 so I thought it could only get better. I was wrong. The center control console has been problematic since I got the car. It's been replaced and it still shuts off when it feels like it. The dealer was not helpful and Stelantis was even less helpful. The car was 30 days old and I had a blank screen for weeks at a time. There were also 2 other recalls. The dealer acted like they were doing me a favor fixing it. This car will be traded in the next 3 months......I can't wait.

Just OK

I bought a brand new 2023 GC Limited. After having it for two days I got in it to go to work. It had condensation all over the inside of the windshield and the front door windows. Found out that the front passenger carpet was soaking wet under the floor mat. Apparently has a leak somewhere. The main display turns off and on by itself. The front door windows don't get cleaned off on the outside when rolled down. You would think the dealer where I bought it would make it a priority to get the vehicle in and looked at being that it is new. Nope.

Great overall

bought a new 2022 GC Summit. I wanted the hemi, only found it in Summit pkg at the time. Overall love the vehicle interior is as nice as anything out there. Real wood, lots of leather and nice materials overall on interior. Kicking stereo. Had a 2016 Overland with hemi. Wanted one more new hemi before quit making them. Easy 20-22 mpg at 70 mph. Plenty of power, very quiet and smooth. Biggest complaint all the plastic trim on the outside. First time i shut the door sounded like a rattle or something, not as solid as the 2016, when i shut the door it sounded solid. Nothing i could find wrong just pieces seeming to make a noise. Overall love it. Looks great, rides great, descent mileage, and very nice interior. Did i mention messaging seats are real sweet. Also plenty of towing power which i needed. Excellent in the snow as well.

‘23 Grand Cherokee Summit

New Jeep GC owner…about a month in. Bought a ‘23 Grand Cherokee Summit after admiring the looks of it. Was nervous to purchase because I usually drive foreign. I also own a ‘22 Audi and have to say that the quality of my Jeep is comparable. I am pleasantly surprised by the drive as well as the quality of the finishes. The ride is quiet and smooth. The 6 cylinder has plenty of pep and has no trouble getting down the highway. It even has a bit of a growl when you step down on it. I legit smile every time I drive my Jeep.

23 Grand Cherokee 25k miles! Rav= Bad CRV=Worse

Besides the hefty amount of recalls in the first year, overall has been the best Jeep I've owned. Super comfortable, very reliable in weather conditions. Can sit in it for 6+ hours a day without my back hurting (I have a rod in my back). Traded a hellcat for more comfort. It was worth it. Probably best adult decision I've made. Does pretty well on gas. (3.6L) I get about 584 range, sometimes 598 depending on how traffic is. However the interior could have been constructed of better materials. (Steering wheel stitching came lose but covered under warranty). Had it since end of March 23 with 25k miles already. No huge issues, never had to worry about screen issues (like what I've heard about 21-22 models). I would recommend this vehicle to anyone who is looking for an upgrade from previous body style GC, bigger suv with legroom, and enjoyable drive. I test drove a RAV4, CR-V. Ended up buying a 23 Jeep. Most vehicles in the market don't have the technology the Jeep has. Toyota is a few years behind (& the road noise is unbearable), CR-V doesn't have enough pep in its step ( Also the interior gives off impoverished/ barely any enjoyable features and buttons. Jeep is perfect. I love how a lot of options are in the screen but also below the screen. Not too cluttered.

Rental review

I travel alot and rent a lot of cars so i review for possible purchasers. I give the grand cherokee a 8 out of 10. Truck feels very confident and rides well. Id consider purchasing one if it wasnt for one thing…. This car is WAY to heavy for a natrually aspirated V6! The 3.6 is very sluggish and cannot get out of its own way. They need to put a twin turbo in it. Otherwise i would have rated it a 10. Other than slow get up and go… its a winner.
