The Good
The 2008 E-Class offers a compelling blend of performance and luxury. Its powerful engine options (V6, V8) deliver satisfying acceleration. The comfortable ride and luxurious interior appeal emotionally, while its reputation for solid build quality and advanced safety features provide practical advantages. A timeless design adds to its appeal.
The Bad
Potential weaknesses include electrical system issues, particularly with the Sensotronic Brake Control system (SBC), though this was largely phased out by 2008. Air suspension problems can be expensive to repair. Oil leaks, especially from the valve cover gaskets, are also common. Check service history carefully for preventative maintenance.

What Problems Does the 2008 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Have?
Recalls for the 2008 E-Class have addressed issues such as fuel filter flanges potentially cracking, which could lead to fuel leaks, and possible issues with the power steering system. Check the NHTSA website for a comprehensive list of recalls related to this model year.
Long-term reliability can be affected by the complexity of the vehicle's systems. Regular maintenance, using high-quality parts, is essential to mitigate potential problems. Neglecting maintenance can lead to cascading failures and higher repair costs. Some owners have reported issues with the COMAND system (navigation/entertainment), but these are often repairable. Overall, the 2008 E-Class can be a reliable vehicle if properly maintained, but potential buyers should be aware of these common problems and factor them into their purchase decision.
How long will the 2008 Mercedes-Benz E-Class last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features, while not as advanced as today's standards, include standard cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic headlights. Optional features included Parktronic parking sensors, Distronic adaptive cruise control, and Keyless Go.
Safety features are comprehensive, with standard antilock brakes (ABS), electronic stability program (ESP), traction control (ASR), and multiple airbags (front, side, and curtain). The E-Class earned high crash-test ratings from the IIHS and NHTSA. For instance, the NHTSA gave it five stars in frontal and side-impact crash tests. Optional safety features included bi-xenon headlights with active curve illumination.
While not as cutting-edge as modern vehicles, the 2008 E-Class offered a solid suite of tech and safety features, enhancing both comfort and security for drivers and passengers. The COMAND system, while dated by today's standards, was a sophisticated infotainment interface at the time.

How Does the 2008 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Compare to Other Sedan?
Price-wise, the E-Class was generally in line with its German rivals when new. However, in the used market, its higher potential maintenance costs can make it a less attractive option than the Lexus GS.
Alternatives to consider include: BMW 5 Series (E60): Sportier handling, but similar maintenance concerns. Lexus GS 350: Significantly more reliable, though perhaps less engaging to drive. Audi A6 (C6): Stylish interior, but potential for electrical issues. If reliability is a top priority, the Lexus GS is a strong alternative. If you prefer German engineering and are prepared for potential maintenance costs, the BMW 5 Series or Audi A6 are also worth considering.

I bought this wagon used with 95k miles, love everythingI bought this wagon used with 95k miles, love everything about this vehicle except when some things go wrong or breaks. It's the small electronic parts, or seat switches that get you. I think about selling it because I have too many vehicles, then I drive it, and can't get ride of it. It is a beautiful classy gliding machine!

Perfect car100k on the clock. Never broken down. The design is the perfect mixture of aggressive and elegant, from its pointed front bumper and flared wheel arches to its majestic 2-segment headlight setup. The suspension is cloudlike, yet it keeps you upright and stable even when you throw it hard into a corner. The AWD is incredibly refined. Took my wife and I up an 8000 foot elevation mountain with dirt roads covered in snow and ice. Bumped into a few snow chunks with the bodywork when gravity got the best of us and there wasn't a single scratch or dent. The automatic gearbox is very quick and responsive, and the wide tires deliver the power (of which there is plenty) very well. Excellent, excellent car!

Problem noted by numerous friends and other E-350 4Matic and E-Class owners. Instrument Panel Code indicates: Restraint System Malfunctions-Passenger side seatbelt and airbags error.

Best car I’ve ever ownedLove this car! Too bad MBZ changed. This is a V6 has lots of power and is a pleasure to drive.Gets 22 mpg city and 28 highway. Solid car and I never get tired of it. You need to keep the maintenance done on a regular basis. This car will go 300K miles if you take care of it.

Mercedes stepping away from diesel in US?If not for manufacturer issues like the swirl flap motor and oil cooler gasket deterioration which are considered normal wear and tear, this could be one of the nicest vehicles I’ve owned. If you’ve got the money to take care of it, you’ll love it.
