The Good
The 2019 Toyota Tacoma boasts exceptional reliability and impressive off-road performance, appealing to practical buyers seeking a dependable truck. Its rugged design and the adventurous spirit it evokes resonate emotionally. While not the most fuel-efficient, its strong resale value provides long-term financial benefits. The Tacoma is built to last, both on and off the road.
The Bad
The 2019 Toyota Tacoma's weaknesses include a somewhat cramped rear seat in the Access Cab configuration and a relatively low seating position. The V6 engine, while powerful, can feel strained at times, and the automatic transmission's shifting behavior isn't always smooth. The interior materials, while durable, aren't the most luxurious in the class. Potential buyers should scrutinize the transmission for any signs of hesitation or roughness.

What Problems Does the 2019 Toyota Tacoma Have?
Recalls have been issued for various issues, including potential problems with the fuel pump (which can cause stalling) and issues related to the brake system. It's essential to check the NHTSA website for specific recall information related to a particular VIN. Long-term reliability is generally good, as expected from Toyota, but addressing these known potential problems proactively can help ensure a longer lifespan. Also note that some owners have reported issues with the infotainment system, such as freezing or lagging. Checking the vehicle's service history for any prior repairs related to these common problems is always recommended before purchase.

Crash test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) generally show good performance, but specific ratings can vary. It's recommended to check the IIHS and NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) websites for detailed crash test results for the 2019 model year. How Does the 2019 Toyota Tacoma Compare to Other Pickup Truck?
In terms of off-road performance, the Tacoma TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro trims are highly competitive, often surpassing the Colorado ZR2 in certain conditions. The Ranger's FX4 package is a decent off-road option, but not as specialized as the TRD models. For buyers prioritizing on-road comfort and a more car-like driving experience, the Colorado or Canyon might be better choices. If maximum towing capacity is needed, the Ranger might be preferable. However, for a balance of reliability, off-road capability, and strong resale value, the Tacoma remains a top contender. Depending on individual needs, the Honda Ridgeline could be a similar alternative, emphasizing on-road comfort and practicality over ruggedness.

Final Verdict: Is the 2019 Toyota Tacoma a Good Pickup Truck?
Daniel on January 26, 2023
Bad Engineering leads to Bad trucks.Well this is a review on a 2021 but all the reviews on the 2019 are the same. The never ending shifting of a over geared transition, NO torque to speak of, Overly loud in the cab, carrier bearing not stiff enough so vibration when under a load or going up hill. Toyota Engineers: Put the 5speed transmission back in, add a twin turbo, sound proof the cab better and put is a one peace driveline or stiffer carrier bearing. This truck should not need Diff gears higher than 4.10s just to be able to daily drive. You guy need to go back to collage and learn more about power to weight ratio and toque converters. The Ford EcoBost gets more power, better MPG and the dammed thing is bigger and weighs more than the Tacoma. My grammar may suck but I can design and build a better truck than the current Tacoma team. Listen to the customer, we all don't live in California and don't care about what they want, the real Tacoma owners that need this truck to be the best need you to fix this xxx. Get some Engineers that actually drive the hills, go off road and put some real drive time in. You can make this cruise 80 and get 25mpg while providing power and toque.

Disappointing PerformanceWhen I bought my 2020 Tacoma V6 (3.5L) 4x4 in December 2019 I quickly noticed the truck lacks low end torque. The truck struggles accelerating uphill, especially up steep mountain roads and often downshifts into 4th gear, or even down to 3rd gear. Iโve installed 4:88 gears and Tuned the the vehicle which helped considerably, yet Iโm constantly wanting more power than the engine can provide. Overall Iโm a bit disappointed with the performance from the engine, constant up shifting and down shifting from the transmission, and the road noise inside the cabin of the truck. Toyota definitely missed the mark on this one!

Very stylish design, perfect sizeRims too small should be at least 18รขโฌย Engine acceleration weak, need more power Compared to the other trucks in its class the engine does not seem as powerful

Should Have Bought 4x4 with 6 foot bedThis truck gets crappy gas mileage. Supposed to get 16 mpg city 24 mpg hwy but really only gets about 12-14 mpg in city and 18 to 20 mpg on hwy with crappy ethanol gas. When I was using no ethanol gas in great state of FL I was getting 16 to 18 mpg in city and 22 to 24 mpg on hwy. But I am now in CA so I am getting crappy mpg. I will be moving back to FL in a year.

Once the xxxx truck is paid for going back to dodge,,

It is a very reliable truck. Serves my needs.Reliable, spacious, the right fit. Has all the necessary equipment. Very handy control of the steering wheel which accesses all electronics. Radio speakers could produce better sound quality.
