The Good
The 2021 Tacoma boasts legendary Toyota reliability and impressive off-road performance (TRD trims). Its rugged design appeals to adventurers, while its strong resale value makes it a practical choice. While not the most comfortable or fuel-efficient, its dependability gives owners peace of mind, a major emotional benefit.
The Bad
The 2021 Tacoma's weaknesses include a relatively cramped rear seat in Access Cab models, a sometimes-sluggish base engine, and lower fuel economy compared to some competitors. The seating position may not be ideal for all drivers. The automatic transmission can sometimes hunt for gears. Road noise can be noticeable.

What Problems Does the 2021 Toyota Tacoma Have?
Check for any open recalls on the NHTSA website using the VIN. Recalls related to fuel pumps and airbags have affected earlier Tacoma model years, so it's crucial to verify the 2021 model's status. While the Tacoma is known for its longevity, preventative maintenance is critical. Rust can be a long-term concern, particularly in areas with salted roads. Regularly inspect the frame for corrosion and apply rustproofing as needed. Earlier model years of the Tacoma (pre-2016) had well-documented frame rust issues that resulted in recalls and buybacks, though these are not common with the 2021 model. Regular oil changes, fluid checks, and tire rotations are essential for maintaining the Tacoma's long-term reliability.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Standard safety features include Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P), which comprises pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert, automatic high beams, and dynamic radar cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available on higher trims.
The 2021 Tacoma received good crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) but not top scores. It earned a "Good" rating in most crashworthiness tests, but the small overlap front test received a "Marginal" rating. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) gave the 2021 Tacoma an overall safety rating of four out of five stars. Optional features enhance both convenience and safety. However, some competitors offer more advanced driver-assistance technologies as standard equipment.

How Does the 2021 Toyota Tacoma Compare to Other Pickup Truck?
In terms of features, the Tacoma's infotainment system and interior design are considered somewhat dated compared to newer rivals. The Ranger offers more modern technology. The Tacoma TRD Off-Road is a strong performer off-road, but the Colorado ZR2 provides even greater capabilities. Price-wise, the Tacoma can be more expensive than some competitors, especially on higher trims.
Alternatives depend on priorities. For pure off-road capability, consider the Colorado ZR2. For a more comfortable daily driver with modern tech, the Ford Ranger or redesigned Nissan Frontier are good choices. But if reliability and resale value are paramount, the Tacoma remains a strong contender.

My 2010 had 317,000 miles when I bought my 2021.My 2010 had 317,000 miles when I bought my 2021. I absolutely love the changes that toyota has made. My 2021 is a perfect truck for comfort and reliability.

#1 choice for me!For the size of motor it's surprisingly powerful. The transmission is smart and performs when needed, use the manual shift when needed. The ride is smooth, the suspension superior on the freeway handling anything I ask of it nicely. Off road it has traction features galore, nothing left for complaints. Best truck I ever owned.

Old Tacoma vs 2024 New update.I leased a 2020 Toyota Tacoma and loved it. It was reliable but a little loud inside but that was fine. I just looked at the 2024 Tacoma and they got ride of the 6 cylinder and got a turbo motor. I donβt trust anything made after 202- so Iβm looking for a 2021 Tacoma.

Loud and dim Tacoma! My 2021 SR5 Tacoma is louder on the inside than my 2006 Tacoma was after 137,000 miles. Would seem like there wasn't as much sound deadening material installed for increased profits. Exterior lighting was also via halogen or incandescent bulbs rather than LEDs; another profit pinch.

the bones are good2021 DCLB 4X4 and what started out as a rather cheap feeling numb handling and underpowered yet solid truck turned into the perfect overlanding platform with a little work. Custom made Elka suspension gave the truck a balanced and smooth highway ride with better on center feel and comfort both on highway and off and is now a pleasure to drive on long road trips. 5.29 gears now put the torque curve where it can be used so hills are no longer an effort and it will sling shot up 7% grades with ease while being lifted with a camper. It is surreal how nice this drives now. The bones are good, it will last a long time and you can not beat the resale value or after market support for Tacoma in the midsize segment. I wish they were this good stock. They knee cap the atkinson cycle engine for cafe standards and it really needs to be lower geared even stock to rectify the sluggishness and spastic transmission issues.

2021 Tacoma TRD PROBought mine new and am still ecstatic about it! I primarily use 100% gas with zero ethanol. It makes a difference in my opinion. The Power is strong and responsive . This truck is unbelievable when you need to go in the snow or dig out of a soft muddy hill. I've been through both. I drive over speed bumps at 40 mph with no bouncing around. This truck hugs the earth and loves to be tested. It's stance and suspension is perfect for the toughest off road or the daily driver on the road. Im just telling ya it's my favorite solid, reliable, confident, and good looking machine I've ever purchased for under 50k. If you want a quite, floating, bouncy ride, get a Big SUV for 85k. I bet this Toyota will be in service for 20 plus years and hit 100's of thousands miles without any major repair cost.

Nice truckdo not understand the reviews which talk about is poor handling and poor engine performance. The ride is very rough, but on the smooth road the truck handles almost like a sports car. The engine has plenty of power if anything you want to do, I drove it on the freeway for over an hour 85 miles an hour to keep up with traffic and had no problems. The engine has a great sound, not sure what they mean by the engine is noisy. This is a truck, if you want it to be capable like a truck it's going to ride like a truck.
