What Problems Does the 2000 Honda Accord Have?

The 2000 Honda Accord, while generally reliable, has some frequently reported problems. Automatic transmission issues, particularly in V6 models, are a significant concern; slipping gears or outright failure are common complaints. Rust, especially in areas with harsh winters and road salt, can affect the body panels and undercarriage. Oil leaks, often stemming from the valve cover gasket or rear main seal, are also reported. Power window regulators are known to fail, requiring replacement. Some owners have reported issues with the air conditioning system, such as compressor failure or leaks.

Recalls for the 2000 Accord included issues related to the Takata airbags, which could potentially explode and cause injury. Owners should check the NHTSA website to ensure all applicable recalls have been addressed. Long-term reliability concerns revolve around the transmission's longevity and the potential for rust. Preventative maintenance, such as regular fluid changes and rustproofing, can help mitigate these issues. The 2000 model year doesn't have significantly different reported problems than the other years in the 6th generation (1998-2002).

How long will the 2000 Honda Accord last?

A well-maintained 2000 Honda Accord can easily reach 250,000 miles or more. Many owners report exceeding 300,000 miles with proper care. Regular oil changes, timely transmission fluid replacements, and addressing issues promptly are crucial. However, neglect can significantly shorten its lifespan. Weaknesses over time include rust, particularly in colder climates, and the potential for automatic transmission failure. The suspension components may also require replacement after many years of service. Long-term durability hinges on consistent maintenance.
Positive Owner Reviews

The only thing I replaced was a timing belt and regular maintenance. Best 4 door car my friends have been jealous of. New cars are made and designed to last 5 years. Then good luck. Yes it's time for another car. Will be looking for the year and make with obviously a few less miles

I bought this car new in 5/2000 and drove it 191k miles. I never had a break down or major repair. I kept up the suggested maintenance all the time I owned it. I purchased another car this year but just cannot love it like my Accord.

With just over 109,000 authentic miles she's just gettin broke in! I know the previous two owners of this Accord EX. I assisted with the Accord's service maintenance before I purchased this Accord from the original owner in November 2019. This Accord EX V6 has plenty of performance power when you need it on the highway, yet it's quite at home for city driving with easy access into mall and market parking spaces. The quality leather seats certainly enhance the ease and comfort of driving this Accord.

Small but fast and good on gas, good in snow, good in the mountains. I liked this car becase it was easy to fix and cheap to run.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2000 Honda Accord's built-in tech is relatively basic compared to modern vehicles. Entertainment features typically included an AM/FM radio with a cassette player, and CD players were often optional. Driver-assistance features were limited, with cruise control being available on LX and EX trims. Safety features included dual front airbags and anti-lock brakes (ABS) were optional on some trims.

Optional features varied by trim level. The EX trim offered features such as a sunroof, alloy wheels, and leather upholstery. Remote keyless entry was also an available option.

Crash-test ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) were generally favorable for the 2000 Accord. It typically earned good ratings for frontal crash protection. Side-impact protection was adequate but not exceptional. Keep in mind that safety technology has advanced significantly since 2000, so compared to newer cars, the Accord lacks modern safety aids like electronic stability control and side curtain airbags.

2000 Honda Accord Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2000 Honda Accord ranged from approximately $15,000 for the base DX model to around $23,000 for a fully-equipped EX V6. Current used market prices typically range from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on condition, mileage, and location. The Accord has depreciated significantly over the years, which is typical for older vehicles. Factors affecting resale value include the car's overall condition, mileage, maintenance history, and location (rust-free examples command higher prices). The Accord's reputation for reliability helps it retain some value compared to less dependable competitors.

2000 Honda Accord Cost of Ownership

The 2000 Honda Accord is generally economical to own. Insurance costs are typically low due to its age and safety record. Fuel economy is decent, especially with the 4-cylinder engine. Maintenance is relatively affordable, as parts are readily available and mechanics are familiar with the car. However, potential transmission repairs and rust remediation can increase costs. Overall, the Accord presents a budget-friendly option for those seeking reliable transportation, but budgeting for potential repairs is wise.

How Does the 2000 Honda Accord Compare to Other Vehicle?

The 2000 Honda Accord competed with the Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, Ford Taurus, and Mazda 626. Compared to the Camry, the Accord offered slightly sportier handling, while the Camry prioritized comfort. Reliability was comparable between the Accord and Camry, both being top choices. The Altima offered a more engaging driving experience, but its reliability wasn't as stellar as the Accord's. The Taurus provided more interior space but lacked the Accord's refinement and fuel efficiency. The Mazda 626 was a stylish option but had a smaller market share.

In terms of features, the Accord was competitive, offering a range of options depending on the trim. Price-wise, it was generally in line with its rivals.

Alternatives to the 2000 Accord include the Toyota Camry (for similar reliability and comfort) and a newer, lower-mileage Honda Civic (for increased fuel efficiency and modern features). If budget is a major concern, a well-maintained Ford Taurus might be an option, but be prepared for potentially higher maintenance costs.

Final Verdict: Is the 2000 Honda Accord a Good Vehicle?

The 2000 Honda Accord is ideal for budget-conscious buyers seeking reliable transportation. It's a good choice for first-time car owners, students, or anyone needing a dependable commuter car. While not worth buying new (obviously), a used 2000 Accord can be a worthwhile purchase *if* it's been well-maintained and thoroughly inspected. Look for examples with complete service records and avoid those with obvious signs of neglect or rust. The LX or EX trims offer a better balance of features, but even a well-cared-for DX can be a solid option. Before buying, have a mechanic inspect the transmission and undercarriage for any potential issues. A pre-purchase inspection is crucial.

Love for my 6th Gen

This is the first Honda I have owned and I absolutely love my car. I've always like to looks of the 6th gens and got mine for a smoken price from my co-worker. This car is super easy to work on. Especially with all of the videos that are out there. I've done all kinds of upgrades to it and parts are pretty reasonable. I just did a motor swap on it. It only had 369,000 +/- miles and it still has the original automatic transmission. Infact, most of if not all the parts I have replace where original. What an amazing car.

Honda's Best: The Accord

Stylish V6 Accord in forest green. Sharp ride with a fine beige leather interior. I loved this car. She drove smoothly and had some pull in the acceleration. Roomy for bigger folks like me and well laid out in buttons, panels, etc. Sorry to have to retire the old girl. She stood by me for fifteen years.

Poor girl finally got called home

After near 400,000 miles, my beloved Honda finally, try as she might could go no further. With zero time spent in a mechanics shop (with the exception of oil changes and a few sets of new tires and battery replacement every 3-4 years) her transmission finally went out. I drove her off the lot new on Jan 2000, two months after the birth of my daughter. Just last year my daughter learned how to drive in the same Honda Accord. I am gonna miss this car.

This Accord EX V6 is very reliable

With just over 109,000 authentic miles she's just gettin broke in! I know the previous two owners of this Accord EX. This Accord EX V6 has plenty of performance power when you need it on the highway, yet it's quite at home for city driving with easy access into mall and market parking spaces. The quality leather seats certainly enhance the ease and comfort of driving this Accord.

I LOVE my car!

I am a small person (only 5') and this car fits me perfectly. It is a 5-speed (which probably is no longer made). I am 74 years old and I wouldn't trade it for the world . . . yet.
