What Problems Does the 2001 Honda Accord Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2001 Honda Accord include transmission issues, particularly with the V6 models. Some owners have experienced slipping gears or complete transmission failure. Oil consumption is another common concern, where the engine burns oil at a higher-than-normal rate, requiring frequent top-offs. Rust, especially in areas with heavy road salt usage, is a recurring issue affecting body panels and undercarriage components. Power window regulators and door lock actuators are also prone to failure over time.

Recalls for the 2001 Honda Accord are relatively few, but it's important to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any outstanding recalls related to safety issues like airbags or fuel system components.

Long-term reliability concerns mainly revolve around the aforementioned transmission and oil consumption problems. Proper maintenance, including regular fluid changes and addressing minor issues promptly, can help mitigate these risks. Pre-purchase inspections are highly recommended to assess the overall condition of the vehicle and identify any potential problems before buying.

How long will the 2001 Honda Accord last?

With proper maintenance, a 2001 Honda Accord can easily reach 200,000 miles or more, providing upwards of 15-20 years of service. Many owners report exceeding this mileage with regular oil changes, timely repairs, and preventative maintenance.

However, long-term durability is affected by factors like climate, driving conditions, and maintenance habits. Weaknesses that emerge over time include rust, particularly in regions with harsh winters, as well as potential transmission issues and increased oil consumption as engines age. Regular inspections and proactive maintenance are crucial for maximizing the lifespan of these vehicles.

I bought 2001 honda accord ex in October 2017. It was 50k miles, I put new brakes, 4 Michelin tires, new radiator, coler, battery, front and rear exhaust with mafler, I did this to make the car in very good condition, but front the beginning the car was nice, hadn't any problems. But now it is super super good and only 88k miles.
Ronnie Lee
Great car great ride good on gas mileage. Great car for a new teen driver cheap to keep up. Tire and service also easy also.
Andrew
My experience was amazing they treated me and others with respect it was over all just amazing gonna recommended you guys to others also such a good car to start with
Negative Owner Reviews

Ball joint broke and driver's side CV axle broke at the same time causing the transmission to go out losing control of the steering wheel
Hate this car
Warning: This car gets terrible gas mileage. You may think buying a Honda, you would get good gas mileage right? Not on this model. On a good day, driving all highway the best I get is 19. City driving is a whole other ordeal. And yes I get my oil changed frequently. (so it is not my fault- it is the car!) Just be prepared to fill this sucker up FREQUENTLY. Gas guzzler!!!!

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2001 Honda Accord's built-in tech was relatively basic by today's standards. Standard entertainment features included an AM/FM radio and cassette player, with a CD player available as an option on higher trims. There were no driver-assistance features like lane departure warning or automatic emergency braking available.

Safety features included dual front airbags and anti-lock brakes (ABS) as standard or optional depending on the trim level. Side airbags were available on higher trims.

Optional features included a premium sound system, leather upholstery, and a sunroof. These features were primarily available on the EX trim.

Crash test ratings from the NHTSA were generally good for the 2001 Honda Accord, earning high marks in frontal and side-impact crash tests. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) also gave the Accord favorable ratings for its crashworthiness. While it lacks modern safety tech, it offered a reasonably safe driving experience for its time based on crash test data.

2001 Honda Accord Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2001 Honda Accord ranged from approximately $15,000 for the base DX model to around $22,000 for a fully-equipped EX V6. Current used market prices vary widely based on condition, mileage, and location, typically ranging from $2,000 to $6,000. The Accord has depreciated significantly over the years, but its strong reputation for reliability helps maintain resale value compared to some competitors.

Factors affecting resale value include the car's overall condition (mechanical and cosmetic), mileage, service history, and whether it has any outstanding recalls. Well-maintained examples with lower mileage command higher prices.

2001 Honda Accord Cost of Ownership

The 2001 Honda Accord is generally considered economical to own. Insurance costs are typically lower than average due to its safety record and commonality. Fuel economy is respectable, especially for the inline-4 models. Maintenance is relatively affordable, with readily available parts and a large network of qualified mechanics. However, potential transmission repairs and oil consumption issues can increase long-term ownership costs. Overall, it's a cost-effective vehicle if properly maintained and major repairs are avoided.

2001 Honda Accord Insurance

Insurance for a 2001 Honda Accord is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2001 Honda Accord Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2001 Honda Accord competed with vehicles like the Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, and Ford Taurus. In terms of reliability, the Accord was generally considered on par with or slightly better than the Camry, both consistently topping reliability charts. The Altima offered sportier handling but wasn't as renowned for long-term dependability. The Taurus, while more affordable, lacked the Accord's refined driving experience and strong resale value.

In terms of features, the Accord offered a competitive set, although some rivals might have had more advanced technology options. Performance-wise, the V6 Accord was quick, but the inline-4 was adequate for most drivers.

Alternatives to consider include the Toyota Camry for its similar reliability and smooth ride. A Buick Century of the same year could also be considered for its comfortable ride and lower price point, though it may lack the Accord’s longevity. The Mazda 626 also offered a good balance of performance and reliability, but might be harder to find in good condition. Ultimately, the Accord's well-rounded package made it a top choice in its class.

Final Verdict: Is the 2001 Honda Accord a Good Sedan?

The 2001 Honda Accord is an ideal used car for budget-conscious buyers seeking reliable transportation. It's well-suited for commuters, students, or anyone needing a dependable vehicle. Whether it's worth buying depends on its condition and price. A well-maintained Accord with a thorough service history is generally a good purchase, especially if it has been inspected by a trusted mechanic.

The LX or EX trims are preferable to the base DX model due to their added features and comfort. However, be mindful of potential transmission issues in V6 models. If the price is right and the car is in good shape, the 2001 Honda Accord remains a solid and practical choice.

I love this car! Engine runs like top!!

I bought my 2001 Accord V6 in 2018 from the son of a friend for $1800. It had 285,000 miles on it. I've had it for 5 years. Now it's up to 350,000 miles. The engine runs like a top. It will still push 110-115 on the highway. Don't tell the cops!! The crankshaft seal leaks a little. The rack and pinion just started leaking a few months ago. I had to stop driving it because either fuel filter needs changed or the fuel pump is going out. I love the car and want to get it fixed. I enjoy driving it and would love to get it restored to like new condition. At this point, it's a classic car....or at least it will be!

Classic Honda Reliability

I have owned my 2001 Accord Coupe for 18.5 years. Excellent vehicle all around with the true Honda quality, style and reliability of yester year, not what Honda has digressed to today. Only thought is gas mileage could be a little better. Overall like this car better than my 85 Supra andmore so than any newer models

Most reliable car in the world!!

This car and any Honda cars are super reliable as long as you do the maintenance and oil changes. These cars can go up to 300,000 or more! No oil leaks or major costs to repair anything...

Most reliable car in the world!

Super nice car for a teenager as a first. Definitely unique and would recommend to everyone. Packs in enough power for a fun ride but freeway would use too much gas because its a 4-speed automatic.
