Rating: 4.80
Based on 100 Owner Reviews
Simon A | March 31, 2025
The 2020 Honda Accord continues a long tradition of reliable and practical family sedans. Available as a four-door sedan, the Accord has been a popular choice for decades. Key trims for the 2020 model year include the LX, Sport, EX, EX-L, and Touring. Pricing typically ranged from around $24,000 to $36,000 when new. Its reputation for reliability, fuel efficiency, and spacious interior makes it stand out in the competitive mid-size sedan segment.
The Good

The 2020 Honda Accord excels in many areas. Practically, it offers excellent reliability, fuel efficiency, and a spacious, comfortable interior. Emotionally, its sleek design and available turbocharged engines provide a surprisingly engaging driving experience. It represents great overall value, balancing affordability with a premium feel, which makes it appealing to a broad range of buyers.

The Bad

While generally reliable, the 2020 Honda Accord's infotainment system can be slow to respond and somewhat unintuitive for some users. Certain models may experience issues with the 1.5T engine's oil dilution, especially in colder climates and shorter trips. Road noise can also be noticeable at highway speeds compared to some competitors. Check for proper maintenance records.

What Problems Does the 2020 Honda Accord Have?

The 2020 Honda Accord is generally considered reliable, but some common issues have been reported. The 1.5T engine has been subject to concerns regarding oil dilution, where fuel mixes with the engine oil, potentially leading to premature wear. This issue is more prevalent in colder climates and during short trips where the engine doesn't fully warm up. Some owners have also reported issues with the infotainment system, including slow response times and glitches. There have been recalls related to fuel pump failures which could lead to stalling, and headlight issues affecting visibility. Long-term reliability concerns are minimal if proper maintenance is followed, but addressing the oil dilution issue (if present) is crucial. Regular oil changes and allowing the engine to reach operating temperature can mitigate the risk. Checking for any outstanding recalls on the specific vehicle VIN is always recommended before purchase. Some owners have mentioned issues with the automatic emergency braking system activating unnecessarily.

How long will the 2020 Honda Accord last?

With consistent maintenance, the 2020 Honda Accord can easily reach 200,000 miles or more, providing 10-15 years of service. Owners generally report high satisfaction with durability. However, neglecting maintenance can lead to premature wear on components like the transmission and suspension. The 1.5T engine's oil dilution issue, if unaddressed, can shorten its lifespan. Rust can be a concern in regions with harsh winters and road salt. Regularly washing and waxing the vehicle helps prevent corrosion. Overall, the Accord is known for its longevity, but proper care is essential to maximize its lifespan.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2020 Honda Accord boasts a range of tech, entertainment, driver-assistance, and safety features. Standard on all trims is the Honda Sensing suite, which includes adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, and forward collision warning. Infotainment is handled by an 8-inch touchscreen display with available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Higher trims offer features like a premium audio system, navigation, a head-up display, and wireless phone charging. Optional features include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors.

Crash-test ratings are excellent. The 2020 Accord earned a 5-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and was named a Top Safety Pick+ by the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety). These ratings reflect the vehicle's strong performance in various crash tests and its advanced safety technologies. The availability of features like a multi-angle rearview camera and automatic high beams further enhance safety and driver confidence. The infotainment system, while functional, has been criticized for its less intuitive interface compared to some competitors.

2020 Honda Accord Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2020 Honda Accord ranged from approximately $24,000 for the base LX trim to around $36,000 for the top-of-the-line Touring trim. As of late 2024, used market prices typically range from $18,000 to $28,000, depending on condition, mileage, and trim level. The Accord holds its value well due to its reputation for reliability and strong demand. Factors affecting resale value include maintenance history, accident records, mileage, and overall condition. Models with lower mileage and a clean vehicle history command higher prices. The hybrid models tend to retain even more value due to their excellent fuel economy.

2020 Honda Accord Cost of Ownership

The 2020 Honda Accord is generally economical to own. Insurance costs are typically moderate, and fuel efficiency is excellent, especially with the hybrid model. Routine maintenance, such as oil changes and tire rotations, is relatively affordable. Repairs are also generally reasonably priced due to the availability of parts and the Accord's inherent reliability. Long-term ownership costs are lower compared to many competitors. However, addressing the potential oil dilution issue in the 1.5T engine is crucial for maintaining its long-term reliability and minimizing repair expenses. Overall, it is a cost-effective vehicle to own.

2020 Honda Accord Insurance

Insurance for a 2020 Honda Accord is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2020 Honda Accord Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2020 Honda Accord competes with the Toyota Camry, Mazda 6, Hyundai Sonata, and Nissan Altima. Compared to the Camry, the Accord offers a more engaging driving experience and a slightly more spacious interior, though the Camry arguably has a more user-friendly infotainment system. Against the Mazda 6, the Accord provides better fuel economy and a more refined ride, although the Mazda 6 boasts a more upscale interior design. The Hyundai Sonata offers comparable features and styling at a potentially lower price point, but the Accord has a stronger reputation for long-term reliability. The Nissan Altima provides available all-wheel drive, which the Accord lacks.

Alternatives to the Accord include the Subaru Legacy (for standard AWD) and the Kia K5 (for bold styling and value). Overall, the Accord is a strong contender due to its balanced combination of performance, features, reliability, and value. If reliability is paramount, the Toyota Camry is a similar alternative. If sporty handling is a top priority, the Mazda 6 is worth considering. If budget is a major concern, the Hyundai Sonata and Kia K5 offer compelling alternatives.

Final Verdict: Is the 2020 Honda Accord a Good Sedan?

The 2020 Honda Accord is an excellent choice for individuals and families seeking a reliable, practical, and comfortable mid-size sedan. It's worth buying, especially on the used market, offering significant value for its price. The EX and EX-L trims strike a good balance between features and affordability. Buyers should carefully inspect used models for maintenance records and be aware of the potential 1.5T engine oil dilution issue. The hybrid model is a great option for those prioritizing fuel economy. Overall, the 2020 Accord provides a well-rounded package that is hard to beat in its class, making it a recommended purchase for those seeking a dependable and enjoyable daily driver.

Purchased this car with 14,000 miles.

Purchased this car with 14,000 miles. It is now at 50,000 miles. Since then, the car battery has died twice with no underlying causes found. The air conditioner has gone out 3 times. 2 times a leak was found. The door lock actuators also have gone out. It has had way too many issues for it to be as new as it is.

Good but missing a few goodies

Love my 2020 Accord EX-L...very roomy and it has a very comfortable interior. It has a few things missing that surprises me on an EX-L trim such as courtesy lights in the doors. Honda has the knockouts but no wiring harness. The lights are only available on the most expensive Touring model which is ridiculous as this is a $20 item. Honda also has chosen to not have the lights on the trunk light up when you hit the brakes...they are only reflectors but do light up on the Touring model. I HOPE AND PRAY THAT MY PAINT DOES NOT CHIP OFF LIKE IS HAPPENING ON SO MANY HONDA'S. I had the paint chip off the car on my 2008 Civic and on the roof of my 2014 PIlot. Of course Honda takes no responsibility for this even though its happening to countless Honda customers across many years and models. They have already chosen to remove the sunroof as standard on many Pilot models as well.

Great car. Gas mileage is excellent. Wish interior was a lighter. I would also like to have the safety features a little bit easier to know if activated or not.

Glad I bought this car

This is the "bottom of the line" 1.5L Turbo Accord and it regularly gets over 40 mpg on the highway. If you need power in a hurry, stomp the gas and feel the turbo kick in. The seats are a little low but what can you expect when the car design is so sleek? It holds the road like no car I've ever owned and is very responsive accelerating or just driving. Road noise can be a nuisance but the ride is smooth. I personally don't like the screen interface sticking out of the dashboard and I think all levels of Accord should come with an electric driver's seat. The paint job is great, the car looks great, and it is a real value for your money

Reliable Beast

This is my first Honda. 1.5 liter engine has more pep and power than my prior car which had more horses. although it is a midsize, when you climb inside it feels like a large. The seats are extraordinarily comfortable. POV is excellent and the infotainment does not disappoint. Because I have the base sport model I do not have remote start. Which is strange as you can buy the exl fob, program it and bam you have remote start.

B & J love Honda! on March 28, 2021

Won't own anything but a Honda

This is our third Honda. They have served all our needs. We love Honda and enjoy the comfort while at home or traveling the USA!
