Analysis
What Problems Does the 2000 Nissan Maxima Have?
There have been recalls related to the 2000 Nissan Maxima, often concerning airbag deployment issues. It's important to check the vehicle's VIN against the Nissan recall database to ensure all applicable recalls have been addressed.
Long-term reliability concerns include degradation of suspension components, leading to a less comfortable ride. The VQ30DE engine, while generally reliable, can develop oil leaks over time, particularly from the valve cover gaskets and rear main seal. Sensor failures (e.g., oxygen sensors, mass airflow sensor) are also common as the car ages. Regular maintenance, including timely fluid changes and inspections, is crucial to mitigating these issues and extending the vehicle's lifespan.
How long will the 2000 Nissan Maxima last?
Long-term durability weaknesses include rust, transmission issues, and sensor failures as previously mentioned. Suspension components also wear down over time, impacting ride quality. Regular inspections and addressing issues promptly are key to maximizing the vehicle's lifespan.
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features were limited. ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) was standard, enhancing braking performance. Cruise control was also commonly included.
Safety features included dual front airbags. Side airbags were optional on some trims.
Crash test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) should be consulted for specific scores. Generally, the Maxima performed adequately in frontal crash tests for its era but lacked modern side-impact protection compared to newer vehicles.
Optional features varied by trim and included a sunroof, leather upholstery, automatic climate control, and power-adjustable seats. Overall, the 2000 Maxima prioritized performance and comfort over advanced technology compared to contemporary offerings.

2000 Nissan Maxima Prices and Market Value
Factors affecting resale value include the overall condition of the vehicle, maintenance records, mileage, and the presence of desirable features like leather upholstery or a sunroof. Cars with rust or mechanical issues will have significantly lower resale value. Clean title and a well-documented service history are crucial for commanding a higher price.

How Does the 2000 Nissan Maxima Compare to Other Sedan?
Regarding features, the Maxima offered a comparable level of equipment to its rivals, particularly in higher trims. However, the Accord and Camry were often considered more reliable in the long run.
In terms of price, the Maxima was generally competitive. Used prices for these vehicles are now all relatively low, making them affordable options.
Alternatives to the 2000 Maxima include the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord for superior reliability, though they may lack the Maxima's sporty feel. The Mazda 626 offers a similar driving experience. If reliability is a top priority, the Camry or Accord might be better choices. However, if you value performance and are willing to accept potentially higher maintenance costs, the Maxima remains a compelling option. A well-maintained Lexus ES300 from the same era could also be considered for a more luxurious experience with potentially better reliability than the Maxima.

Final Verdict: Is the 2000 Nissan Maxima a Good Sedan?
However, be prepared for potential maintenance costs associated with an older vehicle, particularly concerning the transmission and rust. A pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic is highly recommended. If reliability is your utmost priority, a Toyota Camry or Honda Accord from the same year might be a safer bet. But if you want a fun-to-drive sedan on a tight budget, the 2000 Maxima could be a good choice, *provided* you do your due diligence.

The 2000 Maxima is top choice !I like to test drive all types of cars that my associates will let me get my hands on. Out of the following cars, I put the Nissan Maxima up with the so called elite class of cars. Here is the list that I've tested; Mercedes Benz e500, Lexus sc, the Range Rover 2018 hse, 2004 BMW 325. and others. I want to tell you that all that is written about fun, sporty and durable that the Maxima is is true compared with the ones on this list in my opinion. I put a Hollywood hills test on all of those passenger vehicles and if you know Hollywood california, then you know that the hills are swisty turny. with nice strait away shots. The order of choice for the conveyances mentioned that I would pick is like this. 1 Lexus SC(surprised handling control, exceleration into the turns), Maxima (handles corners at close radiance, hella control if better exceleration this this is my choice) I dont want to finish writting the list becasue I am bored with this now.... 2000 Maxima is a gooooood automobile for sure.
