The Good
The 2014 Maxima offers a potent 3.5L V6 engine delivering satisfying performance, appealing to those seeking driving excitement. It also provides a comfortable and spacious interior for daily commutes. While not the most fuel-efficient, its reliability record offers peace of mind, making it a sensible choice for budget-conscious buyers wanting a bit of luxury.
The Bad
Potential weaknesses in the 2014 Maxima include CVT transmission issues, which can be expensive to repair. Owners should also watch out for potential oil consumption and suspension component wear, particularly in higher-mileage examples. The infotainment system can feel dated compared to newer models. Rust can also be a concern in colder climates.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) show the 2014 Maxima receiving generally good scores. Specifically, it earned a "Good" rating in moderate overlap front crash testing, side-impact testing, and roof strength testing. However, it received a "Marginal" rating in the small overlap front crash test.
The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) gave the 2014 Maxima an overall rating of 4 out of 5 stars, with 4 stars in frontal crash tests, 5 stars in side crash tests, and 4 stars in rollover crash tests.
While the tech is functional, the infotainment system can feel dated compared to newer vehicles. The lack of modern driver-assistance features like adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring is also a consideration for buyers seeking advanced safety technology.

How Does the 2014 Nissan Maxima Compare to Other Sedan?
In terms of price on the used market, the Maxima can be attractive, but the potential CVT issues are a significant concern.
Alternatives to consider include:
- Toyota Avalon: Offers superior reliability and a comfortable ride.
- Buick LaCrosse: Provides a more luxurious interior and a quieter ride.
- Acura TL: (If looking for similar sportiness with potentially better reliability)
If reliability is a top priority, the Avalon is a better choice. If you prioritize luxury, the LaCrosse is a good alternative. If you want similar performance but are willing to take a risk with reliability for a lower price, the Maxima might be worth considering.

Final Verdict: Is the 2014 Nissan Maxima a Good Sedan?
I love Nissan! on March 2, 2021
The last good MaximaI had a 2002 Maxima. It made it through me, my daughter then son. I then decided to purchase the 2014 before the new 2016 model came out. What a smart move. I think this is the best model made. CVT is smooth. Its glides at 90 plus miles an hour. It jumps from 75 to 100 when you punch it on the expressway. I sold it to my son.....he is talking about selling it. I am going to buy it back if he does.

Still New to Me but Loving it!!!I am not a "car" person but am enjoying this vehicle. The keyless entry, sun roof, heated seats, etc.....the style of the body is very nice as well. Roomy enough for 5 people. I had looked at a variety of cars but for the value this was the cars for me.

2014 Nissan Maxima SV w/technology and cold packI bought my 2014 Nissan Maxima used with 35k miles on it in 2016. I have had the car for almost 4 years and I have loved the car. I have not had many issues with it. The car drives well and is very comfortable, it has plenty of head and leg room ( I am 6'4 350lbs) and my kids can fit in the back with plenty of room with my seat all the way back. It has plenty of power and the CVT works well, the onoy down side is slightly less power from a dead stop than an automatic, but after 30mph it is plenty fast. I did a few custom things to mine just to make it unique and pop a little more. Paets are fairly easy to fine and fairly inexpensive. I only gave 4 stars for performance and value for the money do to CVT acceleration from 0-25/30 and because it uses premium gas which is expensive considering it only get 18- 20 mpg. Overall great car and would buy it again.

Excellent car and valueExcellent car and value! Highly recommend this car! None of the competition has this excellent 3.5 L V6 engine with 290 hp. A great looking and practical hot rod that turns heads everywhere it goes....

Minimal features for a “luxury†sedan.Vehicle looks and performs great but interior features are terrible. I only have the S model which is the lowest. The Bluetooth is terrible and you can only use it for calls, not music which essentially to me is much more important. No USB ports anywhere on the car unfortunately. If you’re only looking for performance and looks this is the car for you!
