The Good
The 2009 Porsche Cayenne offered potent performance appealing to enthusiasts, while its comfortable interior and practical cargo space attracted families. The bold Porsche design stood out from competitors. High reliability ratings, while not universal, were generally positive, especially for specific trims. For practical buyers, it was a capable SUV; for emotional buyers, it was a Porsche.
The Bad
Potential weaknesses of the 2009 Porsche Cayenne include higher maintenance costs due to its luxury brand status. Some owners reported issues with the air suspension system. Fuel economy, especially on the higher-performance models, could be poor. Check for oil leaks and coolant pipe issues, which are common concerns for this model year.

Analysis
What Problems Does the 2009 Porsche Cayenne Have?
Recalls for the 2009 Cayenne were issued for issues such as fuel pump flange cracks that could lead to fuel leaks and a potential fire hazard. There were also recalls related to the seat belt buckles. Long-term reliability can be affected by these issues if they are not properly addressed. Older Cayenne models can suffer from electrical glitches and sensor failures as well.
While the engine itself is generally robust, preventative maintenance and addressing minor issues promptly are crucial to avoid larger, more costly problems down the road. Regular inspections of the cooling system, suspension, and drivetrain components are highly recommended to ensure the Cayenne's long-term reliability.
How long will the 2009 Porsche Cayenne last?
Over time, weaknesses may emerge in the form of increased oil consumption, deterioration of rubber components (hoses, seals), and potential electrical system gremlins. Addressing these issues proactively can significantly extend the vehicle's lifespan.
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features included front and side airbags, as well as side curtain airbags for both rows. Optional features included parking sensors and a rearview camera.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) are mixed. While some tests showed good protection for occupants, others revealed potential vulnerabilities, particularly in side-impact scenarios. It's important to review specific crash test data from reputable sources to assess the vehicle's safety performance.
Keep in mind that tech and safety features have advanced significantly since 2009, so the Cayenne's capabilities are not comparable to those of modern vehicles.

How Does the 2009 Porsche Cayenne Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?
Reliability is where the Cayenne can be more questionable. While the brand has a strong image, issues like coolant leaks and air suspension problems can impact ownership. The BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz ML-Class had their own issues, but some argue they are marginally more reliable. The Audi Q7, sharing a platform with the Cayenne, had similar reliability concerns. In terms of price, the Cayenne was typically positioned at the higher end of the spectrum.
Alternatives to consider could include the Acura MDX for better reliability and lower running costs, albeit with less performance prestige. A Lexus RX might also be a good choice for reliability. If performance is paramount and budget allows, a newer generation Cayenne or BMW X5 might be a better option.

Final Verdict: Is the 2009 Porsche Cayenne a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?
It is best bought as a used vehicle given its age and depreciation. A thorough pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic is essential to avoid costly surprises. If reliability is a major concern, explore alternatives like the Acura MDX or Lexus RX.

Not as spectacular as I'd hoped.Even though I understand this is an older model I was still disappointed that it doesn't have the bells and whistles one would expect of a Porsche. This car is lacking in, for example, many safety features, Bluetooth, voice capabilities, phone connection.... not available. The car is beautiful and we use it as a second car. Would not have purchased this car if it had been designated as our only vehicle.

Incredible CarFast, reliable and captures true Porsche performance. Everything is amazing except for the need for more interior storage. All you need to do is change the oil.

Porsche Ceyenne Turbo S is a great Luxury SUV.This SUV has more that enough power, acceleration & speed to meet anyone's need for fun & practicality. 550 horsepower can pull a trailer if needed. The adjustable suspension can raise up high for off roading and go low for loading. The real fun comes in on the highway if you press the accelerator the extra inch for 'kickdown' and the twin turbos open up revealing what this vehicle can actually do for acceleration! It can outrun my '81 Corvette by far!

Fun car to driveThis is a Fun car but expensive to drive and maintain. Interior controls feel a little dated but as far as performance it is great.
