The Cayenne stands out for its blend of sports car performance and SUV practicality, offering a luxurious interior and powerful engine options.
The Good

The 2019 Cayenne offers exhilarating performance and surprisingly agile handling for its size (emotional). It boasts a luxurious and comfortable interior with advanced technology. While not the most fuel-efficient, it provides decent efficiency for its power (practical). Its iconic design and Porsche badge offer prestige, while its practicality as an SUV appeals to families (both).

The Bad

Potential weaknesses include higher maintenance costs compared to non-luxury SUVs. Some owners have reported issues with the infotainment system and electronics. What Problems Does the 2019 Porsche Cayenne Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2019 Porsche Cayenne can include issues with the infotainment system, such as glitches, freezing, and connectivity problems. Some owners have reported premature brake wear, particularly with the high-performance models due to their aggressive driving styles. Air suspension malfunctions are also a known concern, especially as the vehicle ages; repairs can be costly. Oil leaks, although not rampant, have been reported in some cases, requiring careful inspection during pre-purchase. Electrical issues, including sensor failures and warning light illumination, have also surfaced.
Recalls for the 2019 Cayenne have been issued for various reasons, including potential fuel leaks and issues with the power steering system. Checking the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for the latest recall information is crucial. Long-term reliability concerns revolve around the complexity of the Cayenne's systems. The multitude of electronic components and the intricate powertrain can lead to higher repair costs over time. Regular and meticulous maintenance, following Porsche's recommended service schedule, is crucial to mitigating these risks. Pre-purchase inspections by a qualified Porsche technician are highly recommended to identify potential problems before committing to a purchase. Specifically, look for signs of oil leaks, air suspension issues, and ensure all electronic systems are functioning correctly. Some owners have reported transfer case issues with higher mileage vehicles. Thorough service records are extremely valuable.

How long will the 2019 Porsche Cayenne last?

A 2019 Porsche Cayenne, with proper maintenance, can realistically provide 150,000 to 200,000 miles of service or 10-15 years. However, longevity heavily depends on consistent maintenance, including timely oil changes, fluid checks, and addressing minor issues promptly. Long-term durability can be affected by the air suspension system, which may require costly repairs as it ages. The complex electronics can also present challenges over time. Neglecting maintenance can significantly shorten the lifespan and lead to expensive repairs. Models that have experienced frequent short trips or aggressive driving might exhibit more wear and tear.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2019 Porsche Cayenne boasts a comprehensive suite of technology, entertainment, driver-assistance, and safety features. The centerpiece is a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, Apple CarPlay, and available Android Auto (later update). It features a high-resolution display and customizable interface. Standard features include a premium sound system, Bluetooth connectivity, and multiple USB ports.
Driver-assistance features include lane departure warning, front and rear parking sensors, and a rearview camera. Optional driver-assistance systems include adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and a surround-view camera system.
Standard safety features include anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, and multiple airbags. Optional features include night vision assist and Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS).
Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA are generally positive, providing good protection in various crash scenarios. The Cayenne typically earns high marks for its structural integrity and safety features. Check the IIHS and NHTSA websites for specific crash test results for the 2019 model year. Optional features like the head-up display and enhanced parking assist further enhance the driving experience.

2019 Porsche Cayenne Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2019 Porsche Cayenne ranged from around $66,750 for the base model to over $161,900 for the Turbo S E-Hybrid. Current used market prices vary significantly based on mileage, condition, and trim level. Expect to find base models in the $40,000-$50,000 range, while higher-end trims like the Turbo and Turbo S E-Hybrid can still fetch $70,000 or more.
The Cayenne depreciates at a moderate rate for a luxury SUV. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, maintenance history, condition, and optional equipment. Models with desirable options and a clean maintenance record hold their value better. Lower mileage is also a significant factor.

2019 Porsche Cayenne Cost of Ownership

Owning a 2019 Porsche Cayenne is generally costly. Insurance premiums are higher than average due to the vehicle's value and performance capabilities. Fuel costs can be significant, especially with the higher-performance models. Maintenance, including scheduled services and potential repairs, can be expensive. Parts and labor tend to be pricier compared to non-luxury brands. Long-term ownership costs should be carefully considered, factoring in potential air suspension repairs, electronic system issues, and other maintenance needs. This is not an economical vehicle to own.

2019 Porsche Cayenne Insurance

Insurance for a 2019 Porsche Cayenne is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2019 Porsche Cayenne Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2019 Porsche Cayenne competes with other luxury SUVs such as the BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE, Audi Q7, and Range Rover Sport. In terms of performance, the Cayenne generally offers a more engaging driving experience than its rivals, particularly the BMW X5 and Audi Q7, but the Range Rover Sport offers comparable driving dynamics. The Mercedes-Benz GLE prioritizes comfort. Feature-wise, the Cayenne is well-equipped but can become very expensive with options; the Q7 often offers similar features at a slightly lower price point, and the X5 also competes well here. Reliability can be a concern for the Cayenne; the BMW X5 and Audi Q7 tend to be slightly more reliable based on owner reports. The Range Rover Sport is known for its reliability issues.
Price-wise, the Cayenne is positioned at the higher end of the segment. Alternatives to consider include the BMW X5 for a balance of performance and practicality, or the Audi Q7 for a more budget-friendly option with ample space and technology. The Mercedes-Benz GLE offers a very comfortable ride and luxurious interior. The Range Rover Sport boasts off-road capability and a stylish design, but reliability should be carefully considered. If performance is the top priority, the Cayenne remains a compelling choice. If reliability is paramount, the BMW X5 or Audi Q7 might be better alternatives.

Ranks #1316 SUV

Final Verdict: Is the 2019 Porsche Cayenne a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2019 Porsche Cayenne is ideal for buyers seeking a luxury SUV with a strong focus on performance and driving dynamics. It's worth buying if you appreciate the Porsche badge and are willing to pay for the associated maintenance and repair costs. A used 2019 Cayenne can be a good value, but a thorough pre-purchase inspection is crucial. Consider lower-mileage examples with complete service records. The base Cayenne and Cayenne S offer a good balance of performance and value. The E-Hybrid is a good choice for those prioritizing fuel efficiency. Avoid the Turbo and Turbo S E-Hybrid unless you absolutely need the extra power, as they are significantly more expensive to maintain. Ultimately, the Cayenne is a rewarding but potentially expensive ownership experience.

My first Cayenne S was a 2004, which we loved - this is a tremendous upgrade in every aspect. The 2019 is terrific in every detail!

Love Porsche Cayenne

Porsche did a nice job on the Cayenne redesign. Car has great lines and the interior instrumentation/ Nav screen has great aesthetics. Best part is the power. It has great acceleration 0-60 in 4.2 seconds for the S. Finally Porsche holds it value if you take care of it.

German Engineering at its finest

My wife and I are past Lexus owners. Their new front end killed them for us. Happy they did though. The Cayenne is one of the best performance cars I have owned. While being fast and responsive it is also very comfortable. Interior is designed like a cockpit with all controls close to the driver.

This Cayenne had every option we required. Couldn’t ask for a better example. Porsche Naples made the entire experience a perfect example of why you should buy a Porsche from them.

Best-driving SUV

I'm still new to Porsche SUVs, but my new Cayenne Turbo has thus far exceeded my need for performance and luxury. It's really two cars in one -- a monster sports sedan and a luxury SUV.

Great SUV

Drives like a sporty car with plenty of power (335 HP) and corners like a Porsche. Good upgrade from a Macan with more room and good gas mileage (23 overall for us).
