What Problems Does the 2001 Toyota RAV4 Have?
While specific recalls for the 2001 model might be limited now, it's crucial to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any outstanding recalls related to safety. Long-term reliability is generally good, as with most Toyotas, but neglecting maintenance can lead to premature failures. The 2001 model year is generally considered similar in reliability to other years in the second generation, so issues tend to be age-related rather than specific to that year.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Optional features could include a sunroof, upgraded audio system, and leather upholstery. The focus was primarily on providing a reliable and functional vehicle rather than cutting-edge technology. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) conducted crash tests. The NHTSA gave the 2001 RAV4 four stars for driver and passenger in the frontal crash test, and three stars for the driver and five stars for the passenger in the side crash test. It is important to note that crash test ratings are relative to vehicles of similar size and weight from that era. Modern vehicles generally have significantly improved safety features and crash performance.

How Does the 2001 Toyota RAV4 Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?
In terms of performance, the RAV4's engine was adequate but not particularly powerful compared to some rivals. Feature-wise, it was generally comparable to its competitors. Reliability was a major strength, often exceeding that of the Vitara and matching the CR-V. For those prioritizing reliability and fuel efficiency at a budget price, the RAV4 remains a good choice. However, if more space or performance are needed, a newer CR-V or Forester might be a better alternative, albeit at a higher cost. Considering newer models within the same budget range, exploring slightly newer Honda CR-Vs or Mazda Tributes could provide a better balance of features and reliability.

Bought car new in 2001, just before 9/11.Bought this car for wife. It was the new style in 2001, which we loved. Traveled to Yellowstone, Montana, Wyoming , Utah and Nevada two months later. Comfortable. Today, car is going strong with 250,000 miles. Did have to replace transmission at 165,000. Having a few brake issues now. Otherwise wonderful experience.

Perfect first carNot much needs to be said about this car; it’s a RAV4. Great reliability, decent amount of interior space. I’ve always loved the crazy amount of visibility you have from the driver’s seat. Not the car for someone looking for speed, but it’s the easiest car I’ve ever driven, and for this reason I think it makes a great first car for a new driver. Definitely recommend.
