What Problems Does the 2022 Jeep Cherokee Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2022 Jeep Cherokee often revolve around the nine-speed automatic transmission, with complaints about rough shifting, hesitation, and occasional slipping. Some owners have also reported issues with the vehicle's electrical system, including problems with the infotainment system, sensors, and other electronic components. There have been some recalls issued for previous Cherokee model years (particularly those equipped with the nine-speed transmission) that may or may not affect the 2022 model, so it's crucial to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any specific recalls pertaining to the 2022 Cherokee's VIN. Long-term reliability can be a concern, as some owners have reported issues with the engine and drivetrain as the vehicle ages. While the 2022 model is relatively new, it is essential to maintain the vehicle according to the manufacturer's recommended service schedule to mitigate potential problems. Potential buyers should also consider purchasing an extended warranty for added peace of mind, particularly if they plan to keep the vehicle for an extended period. Some model years of the Cherokee have had issues with the Uconnect system which can be frustrating for owners, so checking forums for common issues with the 2022 model specifically before purchasing is a good idea. Regular transmission fluid changes are crucial to prevent transmission issues.

How long will the 2022 Jeep Cherokee last?

With proper maintenance, the 2022 Jeep Cherokee can realistically last for 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-13 years. Owner data suggests that diligent maintenance, including regular oil changes, transmission services, and addressing minor issues promptly, is key to achieving this longevity. Long-term durability can be affected by the aforementioned transmission issues and potential electrical problems. Neglecting maintenance can significantly shorten the lifespan of critical components and lead to costly repairs. Rust can also become a factor in regions with harsh winters, so regular washing and rustproofing are important. The interior materials should hold up reasonably well over time with proper care.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2022 Jeep Cherokee comes equipped with an 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system, offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Available entertainment features include a premium Alpine audio system.
Driver-assistance features include standard blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-path detection, and lane departure warning. Optional features include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and park assist.
Safety features consist of multiple airbags, electronic stability control, and anti-lock brakes. Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) should be checked for the 2022 model year, as they can vary. The Cherokee generally performs well in crash tests. The Uconnect system is generally user friendly. Many trims offer a digital instrument cluster which allows drivers to customize the information displayed. The available 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot can keep passengers connected on the go. Higher trims offer features like a panoramic sunroof and a power liftgate for added convenience. The Trailhawk trim includes off-road specific features like skid plates and tow hooks.

2022 Jeep Cherokee Prices and Market Value

The 2022 Jeep Cherokee had a starting MSRP of around $27,000 when new, with higher trims reaching up to $38,000 or more. Used market prices currently range from the low $20,000s to the mid $30,000s depending on condition, mileage, and trim. Depreciation is relatively moderate for the Cherokee, but factors like high mileage, accidents, and lack of maintenance can negatively impact resale value. The Trailhawk trim, with its off-road capabilities, tends to hold its value better than other trims. Overall vehicle condition is a key factor affecting price.

2022 Jeep Cherokee Cost of Ownership

Insurance costs for the 2022 Jeep Cherokee are typically average for its class. Fuel costs can be higher than average, particularly with the V6 engine. Maintenance costs are also average, but potential repairs, especially related to the transmission or electrical system, can increase long-term ownership costs. Overall, the Cherokee is not the most economical vehicle to own, especially compared to some of its more fuel-efficient and reliable competitors. Budgeting for potential repairs is important.

2022 Jeep Cherokee Insurance

Insurance for a 2022 Jeep Cherokee is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2022 Jeep Cherokee Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2022 Jeep Cherokee competes with the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, and Subaru Forester. In terms of performance, the RAV4 and CR-V offer comparable or better fuel economy, while the CX-5 boasts a more engaging driving experience. The Forester provides standard all-wheel drive, similar to the Cherokee's available 4x4 systems. Feature-wise, the Cherokee offers a user-friendly infotainment system, but its rivals often provide more advanced driver-assistance features as standard.
Reliability is where the Cherokee lags behind, with the RAV4, CR-V, and CX-5 consistently scoring higher in reliability ratings. The Forester also generally demonstrates better reliability. In terms of price, the Cherokee is typically competitive, but its higher potential repair costs can offset any initial savings.
Alternatives to the Cherokee include the Toyota RAV4 (for reliability and fuel efficiency), Honda CR-V (for practicality and resale value), Mazda CX-5 (for driving dynamics and styling), and Subaru Forester (for standard AWD and safety). For off-road capability, the Cherokee Trailhawk remains a strong contender, but for overall value and reliability, the alternatives mentioned above may be better choices. If off-roading isn't a priority, it's worth considering those alternatives.

The 2022 Jeep Cherokee is ideal for individuals who prioritize Jeep's styling and available off-road capability, particularly in the Trailhawk trim. It's worth buying if you value the Jeep brand and want a compact SUV with some off-road chops. However, be aware of potential reliability concerns and higher running costs. Buying used can be a good option if you can find a well-maintained model with a comprehensive inspection. The Trailhawk trim is preferable if off-roading is important; otherwise, consider the Latitude Lux or Limited for better comfort and features. Ultimately, consider your priorities and budget when making a decision.

Still A Jeep Girl...BUT

I love my Cherokee overall. This is my 3rd one. Sadly I've noticed the quality slipping. Jeep no longer provides a spare tire - WHAT? The floor mats are now of lesser quality and no longer have the Jeep emblem embroidered on them. The transmission is still a little iffy but not as bad as my '15. The tail lights fill with condensation but the dealership tells me it is normal to do so - WHAT? Additionally you're never gonna be able to find a V6 anymore. I had to go down a year to a '22 in order to get one. They are pushing EVs and Hybrids. All this being said I'm still Jeep girl and still love my Cherokee.

Power to Spare

Go with the 3.2 V 6 it has plenty of power. The Auto engine stop/start is terrible even if it does save gas it is too jerky

First Jeep

Ordered new , love it so far , I went with the 2.0 turbo , far more responsive than expected , this coming from a life long V-8 driver . Went with the Lattude Lux model , came with many standard feature & we added everything else on the option list , the sun & sound package with the panoramic sunroof and this premium Alpine sound system is awesome . Just wish they would offer more interior colors , had money added in the deal so we could install a differnet color Katzkin leather interior

Great power and comfortable interior

Purchased about 2 months ago. I have taken it on highway trips and driven around town. Very comfortable ride and it looks great. V6 engine is very responsive. I am averaging about 31 mpg so far and am pleasantly surprised by this. Only wish it had a bit more cargo space making it easier to get our 2 bikes inside without having to take the front wheels off. Also, chip shortage cause rear park sensors to be left off of this build. Overall very pleased

Single female; working two jobs . And travels on August 14, 2022

Disappointed, on the space, and technology:

If it's just for two it's good. More then two not good. There's no leg space in the back seat; it has no compatibly to Uconnect, which should be able to connect to your phone give you information that you would need in your hands. No SOS button.
