Rating: 4.49
Based on 65 Owner Reviews â–¶
Jovan | March 31, 2025
The 2007 Toyota 4Runner is a mid-size SUV known for its ruggedness and off-road capability, part of the fourth generation (2003-2009). It features a body-on-frame construction, differentiating it from many car-based SUVs. Key trims include the SR5, Sport Edition, and Limited. The original MSRP ranged from around $28,000 to $38,000. Its durable design and Toyota's reputation for reliability make it a popular choice for those seeking a capable and long-lasting SUV.
The Good

The 2007 4Runner boasts strong performance, especially off-road, and Toyota's legendary reliability. It offers a comfortable ride and a classic SUV design. While not the most efficient, its long-term value is excellent due to its durability. Emotionally, it appeals to adventure seekers; practically, it's a dependable family vehicle.

The Bad

The 2007 4Runner's weaknesses include relatively poor fuel economy compared to newer SUVs. Some owners have reported issues with rust, particularly in areas with road salt. The interior, while durable, can feel dated. The V6 engine can feel underpowered when fully loaded or towing.

What Problems Does the 2007 Toyota 4Runner Have?

The 2007 Toyota 4Runner is generally considered reliable, but some common issues have been reported. Rust is a significant concern, particularly in areas where road salt is used. Inspect the frame and undercarriage carefully. Some owners have experienced issues with the X-REAS suspension system (found on some Limited models), which can be expensive to repair. The V6 engine, while reliable, can sometimes feel underpowered, especially when towing or fully loaded. Some reports of cracked exhaust manifolds on the V8 engine exist. Minor electrical issues, such as malfunctioning power windows or door locks, are occasionally reported. Check for proper operation of all electronic features. Recalls for the 2007 4Runner have been issued for items such as floor mat entrapment (which could interfere with the accelerator pedal) and potential issues with the fuel pump relay. It's crucial to check the vehicle's VIN against the NHTSA database to ensure all applicable recalls have been addressed. Long-term reliability is generally good, but preventative maintenance, especially regarding fluid changes and rust prevention, is essential to maximize the vehicle's lifespan. Ensure regular servicing of the brakes and suspension components.

How long will the 2007 Toyota 4Runner last?

With proper maintenance, a 2007 Toyota 4Runner can easily exceed 200,000 miles and provide well over 15 years of service. Many owners report reaching 300,000 miles or more. Regular oil changes (every 5,000 miles), timely fluid flushes (transmission, coolant, differentials), and addressing any rust promptly are crucial. Long-term durability is a strong point, but the suspension components (especially the X-REAS system) and exhaust system (particularly the manifolds on the V8) can become weaknesses over time. Neglecting maintenance will significantly shorten the lifespan.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2007 Toyota 4Runner's tech features are relatively basic by modern standards. Standard entertainment features typically included a CD player and an AM/FM radio. Higher trims might offer a multi-disc CD changer and a premium JBL sound system. Navigation was an available option on some models. Driver-assistance features were limited, primarily consisting of anti-lock brakes (ABS) and electronic stability control (VSC). Safety features included front and side airbags, as well as side curtain airbags for all rows. Optional features included a rear parking assist system. Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) generally show good performance in frontal and side impact tests. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) also provided ratings, which should be researched specifically for the 2007 model year. Keep in mind that technology has advanced significantly since 2007, so don't expect modern conveniences like Bluetooth connectivity or advanced driver-assistance systems. The focus was more on durability and off-road capability than cutting-edge technology. Check the specific vehicle's options, as features varied based on trim level and packages.

2007 Toyota 4Runner Prices and Market Value

The 2007 Toyota 4Runner had an MSRP ranging from approximately $28,000 to $38,000 when new, depending on the trim level and options. Current used market prices vary widely based on mileage, condition, and location, but typically range from $8,000 to $18,000. The 4Runner holds its value relatively well due to Toyota's reputation for reliability and its strong off-road capabilities. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's overall condition, mileage, maintenance history (records are very important), rust presence, and the desirability of specific features like four-wheel drive and the V8 engine.

2007 Toyota 4Runner Cost of Ownership

Insurance costs for a 2007 Toyota 4Runner are generally moderate. Fuel costs are higher than modern SUVs due to its older engine technology. Maintenance is relatively affordable if preventative measures are taken, but repairs, especially for the X-REAS suspension or rust issues, can be costly. Long-term ownership costs are moderate overall. While fuel economy isn't great, reliability helps offset potential repair expenses. It's not the most economical choice, but its durability provides decent value.

2007 Toyota 4Runner Insurance

Insurance for a 2007 Toyota 4Runner is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Wagon with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2007 Toyota 4Runner Compare to Other Wagon?

Key rivals to the 2007 Toyota 4Runner included the Nissan Pathfinder, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Ford Explorer. In terms of reliability, the 4Runner generally surpasses the Ford Explorer and is comparable to or slightly better than the Nissan Pathfinder and Jeep Grand Cherokee. The 4Runner's off-road performance is superior to the Explorer and similar to the Grand Cherokee, depending on the trim. The Pathfinder offered a more modern interior design at the time. The 4Runner's features were competitive for its time, but it lacked some of the advanced tech available in rivals like the Grand Cherokee. Prices for used 4Runners tend to be slightly higher than comparable models from Ford and Nissan due to its reputation. If off-road capability and long-term reliability are priorities, the 4Runner is an excellent choice. A Jeep Grand Cherokee offers a wider range of engine options and potentially more luxurious features. A Nissan Pathfinder might be a good alternative if you prioritize on-road comfort and a slightly lower price point. However, for ruggedness and longevity, the 4Runner remains a top contender. Consider the Chevrolet TrailBlazer as well for similar capabilities but potentially lower price point.

Final Verdict: Is the 2007 Toyota 4Runner a Good Wagon?

The 2007 Toyota 4Runner is ideal for individuals or families needing a reliable and capable SUV with strong off-road performance. It's worth buying used if you prioritize durability and longevity over modern technology. Look for models with well-documented maintenance records and minimal rust. The SR5 trim offers a good balance of features and affordability, while the Limited trim provides more luxury. The V8 engine is desirable for towing but comes at a fuel economy penalty. Avoid models with extensive rust or signs of neglect. Thoroughly inspect any potential purchase and consider a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic. If you value reliability and off-road prowess, the 2007 4Runner is a solid choice.

Fiabilité à son meilleur.

J’ai possédé plusieurs 4x4: Suzuki sj 410(2), jeep cherokke(2) jeep grand cherokke(1) Toyota 4runner. Indestructible.
