The Good
The 2014 4Runner boasts strong off-road performance and legendary Toyota reliability, appealing to practical buyers. Its rugged design and spacious interior offer comfort. While not the most efficient, it holds its value well. Emotionally, it provides a sense of adventure and capability, making it a desirable choice for those seeking a durable SUV.
The Bad
The 2014 4Runner's weaknesses include its dated interior, subpar fuel economy, and less-than-stellar on-road handling compared to car-based SUVs. Watch out for potential rust issues, especially in areas with road salt. The infotainment system is also relatively basic for its model year. Some owners find the ride quality firm.

What Problems Does the 2014 Toyota 4Runner Have?
- Rust: Frame rust can be a concern, especially in regions with heavy road salt use. Regular inspections are crucial.
- Water Leaks: Some owners have reported water leaks, often around the windshield or sunroof.
- Entune System Issues: The infotainment system can be slow and outdated, with occasional software glitches.
- Suspension Issues: Some owners have reported issues with the X-REAS suspension system on the Limited trim, which can be expensive to repair.
- Airbag Recalls: Like many vehicles from this era, it is important to check if the specific vehicle has been subject to any airbag recalls and if those recalls have been addressed.
Long-term reliability is generally very good, but preventative maintenance is key. Regular fluid changes, inspections, and addressing minor issues promptly can help extend the life of the vehicle. Check for service records to ensure that previous owners have kept up with scheduled maintenance.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features are limited, with no advanced systems like adaptive cruise control or lane departure warning available. Safety features include standard antilock brakes, stability control, and a full suite of airbags.
Optional features included Toyota's Entune infotainment system, which provides access to apps like Pandora and iHeartRadio.
Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) show mixed results. It received good ratings in some categories but marginal ratings in others, particularly the small overlap front test. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) gave it an overall rating of four out of five stars. The lack of advanced safety features is a notable drawback compared to more modern SUVs.

How Does the 2014 Toyota 4Runner Compare to Other Vehicle?
Alternatives:
* Jeep Grand Cherokee: Offers a more refined on-road experience and more modern features, but reliability can be a concern.
* Toyota Highlander: A more comfortable and fuel-efficient option for those who don't need serious off-road capability.
* Nissan Xterra (if found in good condition): A more affordable but less refined off-road-oriented alternative.
If off-road capability and reliability are paramount, the 4Runner is a top choice. If on-road comfort and features are more important, the Grand Cherokee or Highlander might be better options.

Had a 4Runner before -went to BMW =Bring My WalletSo I left Toyota for a BMW 3 then subsequently 7 series. For the Ultimate Driving Machine I was left with the ultimate maintenance machine. I expected BMW quality to be equal to if not better than that of Toyota. I was horribly disappointed. While the 3 series was not as bad, that 7 series was a garage queen. Oil leaks, electronic malfunctions and various other maladies finally forced me to part ways with her.I apologized profusely to Toyota for my lapse in judgment and begged them to take me back. They did with open arms. I reacquainted myself with a 4Runner limited model and couldn’t be happier. No more monthly maintenance bills over 1000 dollars a pop, a front end that shakes, or a car that after replacing engine seals that decides to leak every 8 mos, or a cooling system rebuild every 2 years. Toyota is bulletproof! I love my 4Runner limited, fully optioned and best of all 0 maintenance compared to BMW. Of course I expect maintenance cost but it will be nothing compared to a BMW. Learned my lesson. Gonna stick with Toyota.

It’s a tank. Can’t beat it!Absolute beast of a vehicle. On and off road, this truck will take you anywhere. So far I’ve had it for a week, and have never been happier to own a vehicle.

One of the very best cars I’ve ever owned. This is an amazing vehicle it has more options than my previous car a Mercedes. It is super reliable , extremely comfortable, great mileage for its size, ok then why am I selling it? I’m a car nut and just on to the next adventure. The 4 runner is one of the best vehicles anyone could own. And let’s not forget the great resale value.
