Analysis
What Problems Does the 2022 Subaru Legacy Have?
Some owners have noted excessive oil consumption, particularly in earlier model years of this generation. This is something to monitor closely, especially as the car ages. Transmission issues, specifically related to the CVT, have also surfaced, with complaints ranging from hesitation during acceleration to occasional rough shifting. While not widespread, these reports are worth noting.
Recalls for the 2022 Legacy have been relatively minimal, but it's crucial to check the NHTSA website for any outstanding recalls related to your specific VIN. Long-term reliability concerns often center around the longevity of the CVT transmission and the potential for increased oil consumption over time. Regular maintenance, including timely oil changes and CVT fluid servicing, is vital to mitigate these potential issues. Some owners recommend shortening the recommended CVT fluid change interval to prolong its life.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features are abundant, including standard EyeSight driver assist technology: adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and lane keeping assist. Blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, and reverse automatic braking are available on upper trims.
Optional features include a Harman Kardon premium audio system, navigation, a sunroof, and a driver monitoring system that detects driver fatigue or distraction.
The 2022 Subaru Legacy performs exceptionally well in crash tests. It typically earns top safety ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety), including a Top Safety Pick+ designation when equipped with specific headlights. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) also awards it high scores for overall safety. The robust safety features and strong crash-test performance contribute significantly to the Legacy's appeal.

How Does the 2022 Subaru Legacy Compare to Other Sedan?
The Sonata and Altima offer more modern styling and tech features, while the Legacy's design is more conservative. Performance-wise, the Legacy's turbo engine is competitive, but the base engine can feel underpowered compared to some rivals' offerings.
Price-wise, the Legacy is generally competitive. If AWD is not a priority, the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord are excellent alternatives with strong reliability records and well-rounded features. The Hyundai Sonata offers a compelling value proposition with its stylish design and extensive features list. However, for those prioritizing all-weather capability and a reputation for reliability, the 2022 Subaru Legacy remains a strong contender. The Mazda 6 (though discontinued after 2021) also offered a more engaging driving experience.

Final Verdict: Is the 2022 Subaru Legacy a Good Sedan?
If performance is a high priority, consider the Touring XT trim with the turbocharged engine. Otherwise, the Premium or Limited trims offer a good balance of features and value. If AWD is non-negotiable, and you need a reliable midsize sedan, the Legacy is a strong contender. However, if you don't need AWD, there are other comparable options on the market.

love my Subarufrom the first day I had it I haven’t had any issues with it as it handles great and gas economy is awesome. I don’t have a negative to write. I drove Lincoln’s for the last 20 or more years and because they stopped making cars and only Crossovers or SVU’s, I searched high and low to find an equivalent car and googled all the options that were a must and the Subaru Legacy Elite came up and my husband and I went to look and drove out with our new car and couldn’t be happier. The ride is comfortable and the car is just great.
