What Problems Does the 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata Have?

The 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata is generally considered a reliable vehicle, but some owners have reported a few common issues. One frequently mentioned concern revolves around the infotainment system, specifically with Bluetooth connectivity and the touchscreen freezing or becoming unresponsive. Some owners also experience issues with the soft top, such as wear and tear or leaks around the seals, especially on models that are frequently exposed to the elements.
There haven't been widespread recalls for the 2017 model specifically; however, it's crucial to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any applicable recalls based on the VIN.
Long-term reliability concerns are generally minimal, but like any car, regular maintenance is key. Potential issues could include the aforementioned soft top deterioration, minor electrical glitches, and normal wear and tear on suspension components. Early models of this generation (ND) had some reports of engine issues, but these are less common in the 2017 model year. Regularly inspecting and maintaining the vehicle can mitigate most long-term problems.

How long will the 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata last?

With good maintenance habits, a 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata can easily reach 150,000-200,000 miles or more. Many owners report 10+ years of service. Long-term durability is generally good, but weaknesses include potential soft top wear, especially in harsh climates. Suspension components and bushings may require replacement over time. Regular fluid changes and timely maintenance are crucial for longevity. The engine and transmission are typically robust if properly maintained.

Makes me and my wife driving long roads so much fun on smooth roads. Just zoom zoom from State to countryside's of big Texas. wow!
Madame Miata
Sexy, sleek lines, the affordable Ferrari (Even same tone of red). Bose speakers throughout even in head rests of both seats, automatic convertible hard top is the coolest thing ever, super quick and smooth operation-under 30 seconds. The absolute best for navigating through traffic, she is so slender and petite that she can slide through any gridlock of traffic, amazing car!

I have a 2017 MX-5 GT rag top with manual. I fell in love with it just taking it around the block. I didn't buy it as a daily driver, but it is now. It takes me back to the days of MG, Triumph, Alfa..... except you don't have to be a mechanic to own one. The trunk space seems to be an issue for some, my wife and I learned to pack lite on the motorcycle so I think it has plenty of trunk space. Mazda being so concerned with the weight really should have ripped out the CD player and saved 5 pounds, and hey, more storage too. (Really, it's 2017, almost 18!) All I can tell you is life is too short, do your bucket list early and get one!

NO spare! Not even a doughnut! Max capacity 380LBS, WAY TOO LOW! Not used for anything but weekend drives in the park! Basically a dumb version of the smart car. Go with a cooper or vw.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata offers a decent array of tech and safety features, although it's not the most cutting-edge in its class. The base Sport trim features a basic audio system, Bluetooth, and a USB port. However, it's important to note that crash test results can vary depending on the specific testing criteria and organization. reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata competes with other roadsters like the Fiat 124 Spider (which shares its platform) and, to a lesser extent, sporty coupes and convertibles. Compared to the Fiat 124 Spider, the Miata offers a more engaging driving experience and a slightly more reliable reputation. The 124 Spider provides a different engine option (turbocharged) and styling.
In terms of performance, the Miata excels in handling and agility. However, its horsepower is lower than some competitors. Feature-wise, the Miata offers a decent set of amenities, but rivals might offer more advanced tech.
Reliability is a strong point for the Miata. Price-wise, the Miata is generally more affordable than many of its alternatives, making it a great value.
Alternatives to consider include the BMW Z4 (more luxurious and powerful, but more expensive), and the Subaru BRZ/Toyota 86 twins (coupes with similar handling characteristics but without the convertible top). Ultimately, the Miata remains a top choice for its blend of affordability, fun, and reliability.

Final Verdict: Is the 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata a Good Sedan?

The 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata is ideal for driving enthusiasts seeking an affordable, fun, and reliable roadster. It's worth buying, especially as a used car, offering excellent value. The Club trim strikes a good balance between features and performance with its Bilstein shocks and limited-slip differential (manual transmission). The Grand Touring provides more luxury. It's best for those who prioritize driving experience over practicality and interior space. Ensure you are comfortable with the limited storage and snug cabin before purchasing. If you want top-down fun on a budget, the Miata is hard to beat.

Fun car to drive

I find this car fun to drive. I belong to a Miata Club and we take rides into the rural areas of NJ where there are many winding roads and this car performs really well. The suspension is a little stiff but you have to expect that in a little sports car. The only complaint is that it could use a little more horsepower, it's about 150 but the newer cars are now 180

The Most Fun You Can Have Under 30K

The ND Miata is an amazing car. It’s responsive, fuel efficient, and the handling is otherworldly. Seriously, my other car is a Porsche and the Miata’s handling still blows me away. They say the true test of how much you love a car is whether you look back at it when you leave it. I’ve had it about 1 month and look back every single time. I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to realize that...yes, Miata Is Always The Answer.

Great To Drive, Lacking Elsewhere

I owned a 2016 drop top, so this is better in many ways. Easy automated convertible, handles beautifully. Drawbacks: no glove box, horrible cup holder placement, no interior grab handles, sun visors fixed, storage BEHIND seats??, car leaks like a sieve. HVAC issues less than 2 years in.

My 3rd Miata, my 10th sports car

This car is beautiful, a hoot to drive, economical and if you buy used, a screaming bargain. The best bang for the buck for a sports car.

I've owned 5 Miatas. This one is the best yet.

Performance is great and really fun to drive. I had to sell it because of a business failure. The buyer of this car will be getting a showroom new car.

Reminds me of my old MGB

In a class of it's own (along with it's Fiat twin). Nothing else like it out there. Great, fun, sport convertible. No one make convertibles anymore. It is even more fun than my old MGB. The handling is FAR superior and it is MUCH more dependable. I have not bought it yet, but i will. Not sure if i will buy used or new....2016 or newer. The older ones are more sluggish, softer handling, more Japanese.........as opposed to the new model that is more 'German' in terms of handling.
