The Good
The 2019 MX-5 Miata offers exhilarating performance thanks to its responsive engine and nimble handling. Itβs known for its good reliability and decent fuel efficiency. The design is stunning, appealing to emotional buyers, while its relatively affordable price and low running costs appeal to practical buyers. Although comfort is limited, the driving experience is paramount.
The Bad
The 2019 MX-5 Miata's weaknesses include limited cargo space and a small cabin, which may not suit larger drivers or those needing practicality. The ride can be firm, and road noise is noticeable, especially with the top down. Also, be aware of potential soft-top wear and tear over time. The infotainment system can also feel dated compared to some competitors.

What Problems Does the 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata Have?
While not widespread, there have been some reports of minor electrical issues, such as problems with the sensors or lighting. It's advisable to check the car's history for any recalls or technical service bulletins (TSBs) related to these or other potential problems. Some earlier model years (prior to 2019) had concerns related to the transmission, but these seem to have been largely addressed by 2019.
Long-term reliability is generally good, but regular maintenance, including fluid checks and timely servicing, is crucial to prevent issues and ensure the vehicle's longevity. As with any convertible, paying attention to the condition of the soft top and addressing any leaks promptly is essential to prevent further damage.
How long will the 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features include blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert on the Club and Grand Touring trims. A rearview camera is standard across all trims. Safety features include standard airbags, ABS, and stability control.
Optional features include adaptive front lighting, rain-sensing wipers, and heated seats (Grand Touring). Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) should be consulted for a comprehensive assessment of the car's safety performance. However, due to its size and type, crash test results may not always be directly comparable to larger vehicles. Some sources indicate good scores for certain categories, but overall ratings can vary. Check official sources for the most accurate and up-to-date information.

How Does the 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata Compare to Other Convertible?
In terms of performance, the Miata excels in agility and driver engagement, while some rivals may offer slightly more horsepower. Feature-wise, the Miata offers a reasonable array of tech, though some competitors might have more advanced infotainment systems. Reliability is a strong point for the Miata, often surpassing that of the Fiat 124 Spider. Price-wise, the Miata is very competitive, offering excellent value for the driving experience it provides.
Alternatives to consider include the BMW Z4 (more luxurious and powerful but significantly more expensive) or a used Porsche Boxster (offering more performance and prestige but potentially higher running costs). Ultimately, the Miata stands out for its blend of affordability, reliability, and pure driving fun. No real *better* options exist at its price point for an open-top sports car.

Final Verdict: Is the 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata a Good Convertible?

Affordable sports convertibleI moved up from a 2015 Mazda 3 sport to the 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata Grand Touring soft top in May of 2020. It is soul red with tan leather interior. I have received many compliments from people who say the car looks more expensive then it really is. I prefer the soft top over the hard top model because it was almost 5 grand cheaper and I get more open space when driving with the top down. Takes me about two seconds to drop the top even while I'm sitting in the driver seat at a stop light. It is a lot of fun in sport mode on the highway as you can easily pass about anyone in seconds. Sometimes people move out of you way when they see you in their rear view mirror, lol. I turned off the lane departure feature as it beeps too much for me. I love the blind spot feature, automatic headlights, automatic climate control, seat heaters, and rain sensing wipers. There is a lot of wind noise in the cabin even with the top up and it is not as comfortable on long rides like the Mazda 3 was but I wouldn't go back. The trunk space is only good for one week of groceries or one carry on suitcase. There is no spare tire so I recommend having roadside assistance. CarPlay for iPhone works seamlessly and the Bose system sounds awesome. Build quality is top notch on this car, nothing feels cheap, and everything is laid out well. You have storage behind your seats but be aware the glove box is in between the seats and can be blocked by anything in the cup holders. I'm 5 foot 3 so this car fits me perfectly.

Fun car to drive but not for everyoneThis is a great sport car and is a sport car and not a commuter car. If you enjoy the sport car features, then you can most likely drive it every day. It has limited room for carrying things. The seat are sporty and hugs your body in the car. If you are tall, Iβm 6 ft, it is a little tight compared to my Tahoe. I love the car because it is truly a sport car and fun to drive on curvy country roads. I donβt know if I would want it as a daily commuter car but for a recently retired guy, I think itβs a great sport car for the price.

The Mx-5 RF is a dream to drive.I guess I fit the target demographic -- close to retirement guy living in Sunny Florida -- where it seems that every other car is a rag top. My last vehicle was an Infiniti G37X with a V6 and a ton of attitude. It was great on the highway but a royal pain in every other situation. From terrible telematics to awful MPG's I couldn't wait to get rid of that package of too much automobile -- and get myself a fun car that I would look forward to driving. The RF is a dream to drive. It brings smile to my face just starting it up and pulling out of my driveway. Compared to my G37X which roared onto a highway, the MX5 accelerates in a wonderful controlled manner -- when you floor the car you don't feel like the car is going to fly off the road. Yes, it is a noisy with the top down. Yes, the trunk is a joke. Yes, just about every other driver (including troopers) start up conversations to learn what I am driving and are surprised to hear it is a Mazda Miata. I test drove the soft top and was ready to buy one but then I saw the RF at launch. Love at first sight. I was less concerned about the soft top in the Florida sun than I was parking a soft top anywhere outside my garage. The fixed top offers a little more security when there are idiots looking to cause trouble lurking around a parking lot. The audio system is awesome. I love cranking up some Boston or Chicago and heading for A1A. I drove a Mazda 3 for 10 years and loved it. Then I was seduced by the "luxury" of Infiniti and a rude awakening with the reality of the car, the dealer, and the brand. Happy to be back behind the wheel of a Mazda. Because Mazda makes great cars.
